  • This paper proves the invariability of reachable sets for the linear control system with positive isolated spectrum points in case where the principal operator generates $C_0-semigroup$ and derives the approximate controllability for the semilinear control system by using spectral operators with respect to isolated spectrum points.

  • Let G be a compact abelian Lie group, and M an odd-dimensional closed smooth G-manifold. If the fixed point set $M^G\neq\emptyset$ and dim $M^G=0$, then G has a subgroup H with $G/H{\cong}\mathbb{Z}_2$, the cyclic group of order 2. The tangential representation $\tau_x$(M) of G at $x{\in}M^G$ is also regarded as a representation of H by restricted action. We show that the number of fixed points is even, and that the tangential representations at fixed points are pairwise isomorphic as representations of H.

  • Eleven bacterial strains which were able to utilize terephthalic acid as a carbon and an energy source for growth were isolated from the soil of 7 water quality evaluation points in Kyonggi area of Korea. According to the report from the authorities, biochemical oxygen demands of the water at 4 points were reported over 20 ppm but those of 3 points were repOlted less than 2 ppm in 1997. Optimum temperatures of growth and terephthalic acid degrading activity of some isolates were not identical but optimum growth temperature was 30$^{\circ}$C. Most of the isolates utilized one or two of the phthalate isomers as a carbon source for growth and the isolates from the 4 contaminated points showed higher terephthalic acid degrading activity than those from the 3 clean points.

  • The predissociating resonances are treated for the SH molecule by quantal method. The isolated resonances (N'=0, v' = 0-6) are predicted to be highly Lorentzian. The widths and positions of the isolated resonances are computed as functions of v'. The magnitudes and signs of the widths and the shifts as functions of v' are discussed in terms of the distance of the resonance from the crossing points between the bound state (A 2Σ+ ) and the repulsive states ( 4Σ- , 2Σ- and 4Π).

  • In this paper, a new clustering algorithm based on the connected region generation (CRG-clustering) is proposed. It is an effective and robust approach to clustering on the basis of the connectivity of the points and their neighbors. In the new algorithm, a connected region generating (CRG) algorithm is developed to obtain the connected regions and an isolated point set. Each connected region corresponds to a homogeneous cluster and this ensures the separability of an arbitrary data set theoretically. Then, a region expansion strategy and a consensus criterion are used to deal with the points in the isolated point set. Experimental results on the synthetic datasets and the real world datasets show that the proposed algorithm has high performance and is insensitive to noise.

  • For the Korean language, on acoustics, it creates a different form of phonetic value not a phoneme by its own peculiar property. Therefore, the construction of extended recognition system for understanding Korean language should be created with a study of the Korean rule-based system, before it can be used as post-processing of the Korean recognition system. In this paper, text-based Korean rule-based system featuring Korean peculiar vocal sound changing rule is constructed. and based on the text-based phonetic value result of the system constructed, a preliminary phonetic value segmentation border points with non-uniform blocks are extracted in Korean isolated word speech. Through the way of merge and recognition of the non-uniform blocks between the extracted border points, recognition possibility of Korean voice as the form of the phonetic vale has been investigated.

  • Let .SIGMA. be a smooth compact manifold without boundary having the same homotopy type as a sphere, which is called a homotopy sphere. Supose a group G acts smoothly on .SIGMA. with the fixed point set .SIGMA.$^{G}$ consists of two isolated fixed points p and q. In this case, tangent spaces $T_{p}$ .SIGMA. and $T_{q}$ .SIGMA. at isolated fixed points, as isotropy representations of G are called Smith equivalent. Moreover .SIGMA. is called a supporting homotopy sphere of Smith equivalent representations $T_{p}$ .SIGMA. and $T_{q}$ .SIGMA.. The study on Smith equivalence has rich history, and for this we refer the reader to [P] or [Su]. The following question of pp.A.Smith [S] motivates the study on Smith equivalence.e.

  • This study aims to investigate the stochastic response of isolated and non-isolated highway bridges subjected to spatially varying earthquake ground motion model. This model includes wave passage, incoherence and site response effects. The wave passage effect is examined by using various wave velocities. The incoherency effect is investigated by considering the Harichandran and Vanmarcke coherency model. The site response effect is considered by selecting homogeneous firm, medium and soft soil types where the bridge supports are constructed. The ground motion is described by power spectral density function and applied to each support point. Triple concave friction pendulum (TCFP) bearing which is more effective than other seismic isolation systems is used for seismic isolation. To implement seismic isolation procedure, TCFP bearing devices are placed at each of the support points of the deck. In the analysis, the bridge selected is a five-span featuring cast-in-place concrete box girder superstructure supported on reinforced concrete columns. Foundation supported highway bridge is regarded as three regions and compared its different situation in the stochastic analysis. The stochastic analyses results show that spatially varying ground motion has important effects on the stochastic response of the isolated and non-isolated bridges as long span structures.

  • A comprehensive investigation of the stochastic response of an isolated cable-stayed bridge subjected to spatially varying earthquake ground motion is performed. In this study, the Jindo Bridge built in South Korea is chosen as a numerical example. The bridge deck is assumed to be continuous from one end to the other end. The vertical movement of the stiffening girder is restrained and freedom of rotational movement on the transverse axis is provided for all piers and abutments. The longitudinal restraint is provided at the mainland pier. The A-frame towers are fixed at the base. To implement the base isolation procedure, the double concave friction pendulum bearings are placed at each of the four support points of the deck. Thus, the deck of the cable-stayed bridge is isolated from the towers using the double concave friction pendulum bearings which are sliding devices that utilize two spherical concave surfaces. The spatially varying earthquake ground motion is characterized by the incoherence and wave-passage effects. Mean of maximum response values obtained from the spatially varying earthquake ground motion case are compared for the isolated and non-isolated bridge models. It is pointed out that the base isolation of the considered cable-stayed bridge model subjected to the spatially varying earthquake ground motion significantly underestimates the deck and the tower responses.
