Integrated Arts Education Program with AI Literacy

  • This study aimed to develop an integrated arts education program for improving AI literacy among elementary school students. First, we developed two thematic programs that are research on the goals of the art, music, physical curriculum in the 2022 revised elementary school curriculum, and a matrix of goals and elements of integrated art education. The developed program was revised and supplemented through the first expert validity test, and the second revision was made based on the results of students' AI literacy pre/post-test and satisfaction survey with the program. Finally, the final program was developed through the third expert validity test. We hope that the developed program will be used as a convergence education program to cultivate AI literacy in elementary school students.

  • In the era of the 4th industrial revolution represented by AI technology, various AI education is being conducted in the education field. However, AI education in the educational field is mostly one-off project education or teacher-centered education. In order to practice student-centered, field-oriented education, an artificial intelligence education program was developed based on design thinking. The AI education program based on design thinking will improve understanding and ability to use AI through the process of solving everyday problems with AI, and will develop the ability to create new values beyond understanding AI. It is expected that various AI education will take place in the educational field through design thinking-based artificial intelligence education programs.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the effectiveness of AI convergence education program. To this end, the "Elementary Science AI Convergence Education Program for Machine Learning" developed in previous research were taught to elementary school students in the fourth to sixth grades in eight times. The quantitative changes of each factor were analyzed by R program, and the effectiveness of education was analyzed by Pearson correlation and paired samples t-test. As a result, there is a deep correlation between "Attitude to AI technology, Scientific preference and STEAM Literacy" and technical average has improved in many factors. Therefore, AI convergence education program is meaningful in terms of education, and if AI education and AI convergence education are implemented into the primary formal education curriculum, they will have a positive effect.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop the Artificial Intelligence thinking-based education program for improving AI literacy and verify its effectiveness for beginner. This program consists of 17 sessions, was designed according to the "ABCDE" model and is a project-based program. This program was conducted on 51 first-year middle school students and 36 respondents excluding missing values were analyzed in R language. The effect of this program on ethics, understanding, social competency, execution plan, data literacy, and problem solving of AI literacy is statistically significant and has very large practical significance. According to the result of this study, this program provided learners experiencing Artificial Intelligence education for the first time with Artificial Intelligence concepts and principles, collection and analysis of information, and problem-solving processes through application in real life, and served as an opportunity to enhance AI literacy. In addition, education program to enhance AI literacy should be designed based on AI thinking.

  • Recently, the artificial intelligence(AI) is used in various environments in life, and research on this is being actively conducted in education. In this paper, we designed a Design-Based Research(DBR)-based AI programming education program and analyzed the application of the program for the improvement of understanding of AI in elementary school. In the artificial intelligence education program in elementary school, we should considerthat itshould be used in conjunction with software education through programming activities, rather than creating interest through simple AI experiences. The designed education program reflects the collaborative problem-solving procedures following the DBR process of analysis - design - execution - redesign, allowing the real-world problem-solving activities using AI experiences and block-type programming language. This paper also examined the examples of education programs to improve understanding of AI by using Machine Learning for Kids and to draw implications for developing and operating such a program.

  • Purpose -In general, elementary school is the time to take the first social step away from family relationships with parents or siblings. Recently, AI technology has been widely used in everyday life and society. The purpose of this study is to propose a program that can cultivate AI literacy and self-expression for elementary school students according to the trend of the times. Research design, data, and methodology - In this study, prior to developing a self-expression class program for cultivating AI literacy, we looked at the related literature on what AI literacy is. In addition, the digital learning program was analyzed considering that the current AI literacy is based on the cutting edge of digital technology and is located in the same area as digital literacy. Result -This study developed a curriculum for self-expression and AI literacy cultivation. The main feature of this study is that the education program of this study allows 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders of elementary school to express themselves and to express their career problems by combining culture and art with AI programs. Conclusion -Self-expression activity education for cultivating AI literacy should be oriented toward holistic education and should be education as a way to express oneself in order to improve the quality of life of learners

Analyzing the effects of artificial intelligence (AI) education program based on design thinking process (디자인씽킹 프로세스 기반의 인공지능(AI) 교육 프로그램 적용 효과분석)

  • At the beginning of the discussion of AI education in K-12 education, the study was conducted to develop and apply an AI education program based on Design Thinking and analyze the effects of the AI education programs. In the AI education program, students explored and defined the AI problems they were interested in, gathered the necessary data to build an AI model, and then developed a project using scratch. In order to analyze the effectiveness of the AI education program, the change of learner's perception of the value of AI and the change of AI efficacy were analyzed. The overall perception of the AI project was also analyzed. As a result, AI efficacy was significantly increased through the experience of carrying out the project according to the Design Thinking process. In addition, the efficacy of solving problems with AI was influenced by the level of use of programming languages. The learner's overall perception of the AI project was positive, and the perceptions of each stage of the AI project (AI problem understanding and problem exploration, practice, problem definition, problem solving idea implementation, evaluation and presentation) was also positive. This positive perception was higher among students with high level of programming language use. Based on these results, the implications for AI education were suggested.

Effects of a short period nutrition education program on the dietary behavior and the dietary intake of female college students with the different adiposity index (단기간의 영양교육이 비만도가 다른 여대생들의 식생활 태도와 영양소 섭취에 미치는 영향)

  • Effects of a short-period nutrition education program on the dietary behavior and the dietary intake were investigated in sixty nine healthy female college students. Questionnaires for general health information, character type, dietary behavior and dietary intake were answered by the subjects. All the subjects were participated in the nutrition education program which was carried out twice during the study. Subjects were divided into three groups according to their adiposity indices (AI), which are low AI (33 subjects), normal AI (31), and high AI (5). In the normal and the high AI group, the nutrition education program appeared to influence the dietary behaviors of the subjects significantly. However the program did not significantly influence the dietary intake of three groups, except PUFA ratio. It appears that a longer-period nutrition education program is required for influencing both the dietary behavior and the dietary intake of the subjects.

Development of Design thinking-based AI education program (디자인 씽킹 기반 인공지능 교육 프로그램 개발)

  • In this study, the AI education program for elementary school students was developed and applied by introducing the design thinking process, which is attracting attention as a creative problem solving process. A design thinking-based AI education program was developed in the stages of Understanding AI, Identifying sympathetic problems, Problem definition, Ideate, Prototype, Test and sharing, and the development program was applied to elementary school students in 4th-6th grade. As a result of pre- and post-testing of students' computational thinking skills to confirm the effectiveness of the program, computational thinking skills increased by grade level, and students experienced a process of collaboration for creative problem solving based on insights gained from sympathetic problem finding. In addition, it was possible to get a glimpse of the attitude of using AI technology to solve problems, and it was confirmed that ideas were generated in the prototype stage and developed through communication between team members. Through this, the design thinking-based AI education program as one of the AI education for elementary school students guarantees the continuity of learning and confirms the possibility of providing an experience of the creative problem-solving process.

The Effect of AI Learning Program on AI Attitude and Literacy of Gifted Children in Elementary Schools (인공지능 교육 프로그램이 초등영재아동의 인공지능 태도와 소양 향상에 미치는 영향)

  • Previous studies showed that an improvement in attitude toward a subject affects academic achievement in the subject. The purpose of this study is to confirm that the AI education program causes changes in the AI attitude of gifted children in elementary school, and that the change in attitude leads to a change in literacy. In this study, we conducted an AI education program for gifted children, and analyze the effect of AI education program on the change in AI attitude AI literacy through pre- and post-test. The result of the analysis showed the statistically significant improvement of AI attitudes. In addition, through regression analysis it was found that the change in AI attitude has a statistically significant direct effect on the change in AI literacy. This study has a limitation in that self-evaluation was used to measure AI attitudes and literacy and conducted to a relatively small number of samples. Even though, it was also confirmed that the activities of making an AI programs experienced in real-life can cause changes in AI attitudes and literacy.
