Mitigating the Urban Heat Island Phenomenon Using a Water-Retentive Artificial Turf System

  • To investigate the thermal properties of a water-retentive artificial turf system (W-ATS), we estimated hydrologic parameters including thermal conductivity, heat capacity, and surface albedo for both the W-ATS and natural grass. We used a model experiment to measure surface temperature and evaporation for both the W-ATS and natural grass. We found that the W-ATS had lower thermal conductivity than natural grass did, and it was difficult for the W-ATS to convey radiant heat to the ground. Compared to natural grass, the W-ATS also had lower heat capacity, which contributed to its larger variation in surface temperature: the W-ATS had higher surface temperatures during daytime and lower surface temperatures during nighttime. The albedo of the W-ATS was one-quarter that of natural grass, and reflected shortwave radiation from the W-ATS surface was lower than that from the surface of natural grass. These results indicate that the W-ATS caused the soil temperature to increase. Furthermore, evaporation from the W-ATS was one-quarter the value of evapotranspiration from natural grass.

De novo mutations in COL4A5 identified by whole exome sequencing in 2 girls with Alport syndrome in Korea

  • Alport syndrome (ATS) is an inherited glomerular disease caused by mutations in one of the type IV collagen novel chains (${\alpha}3$, ${\alpha}4$, and ${\alpha}5$). ATS is characterized by persistent microscopic hematuria that starts during infancy, eventually leading to either progressive nephritis or end-stage renal disease. There are 3 known genetic forms of ATS, namely X-linked ATS, autosomal recessive ATS, and autosomal dominant ATS. About 80% of patients with ATS have X-linked ATS, which is caused by mutations in the type IV collagen ${\alpha}5$ chain gene, COL4A5. Although an 80% mutation detection rate is observed in men with X-linked ATS, some difficulties do exist in the genetic diagnosis of ATS. Most mutations are point mutations without hotspots in the COL4A3, COL4A4, and COL4A5 genes. Further, there are insufficient data on the detection of COL4A3 and COL4A4 mutations for their comparison between patients with autosomal recessive or dominant ATS. Therefore, diagnosis of ATS in female patients with no apparent family history can be challenging. Therefore, in this study, we used whole-exome sequencing (WES) to identify mutations in type IV collagen in 2 girls with glomerular basement membrane structural changes suspected to be associated with ATS; these patients had no relevant family history. Our results revealed de novo c.4688G>A (p.Arg1563Gln) and c.2714G>A (p.Gly905Asp) mutations in COL4A5. Therefore, we suggest that WES is an effective approach to obtain genetic information in ATS, particularly in female patients without a relevant family history, to detect unexpected DNA variations.

신호장치에 의한 ATS 신호장치 오동작 방지에 대한 연구 (A Study about Preventing Improper Working of Equipment on ATS System by Signaling Equipment)

  • Promotion of the line no.2 in Seoul Metro was changing from the existing signaling facilities for ATS(Automatic Train Stop) vehicles to the up-to-date signaling facilities for ATO(Automatic Train Operation). But, in consequence of conducting a trial run after being equipped with the ATO signaling facilities, the matter related to mix-operation with the existing ATS signaling facilities appeared. The operation of the existing ATS signaling system in combination with the ATO signaling system has made improper working related to frequency recognition of the ATS On-board Computerized Equipment. This obstructs operation of a working ATS vehicle. That is, as barring operation of an ATS vehicle that should proceed, it may make the proceeding ATS vehicle stop suddenly and after all, it will cause safety concerns. In this paper, we designed a wayside track occupancy detector that previously prevents improper working related to frequency recognition of the ATS On-board Computerized Equipment by gripping classification and working processes of operating trains throughout transmission of local signaling information from the existing facilities, which does not need to change or replace the existing signaling facilities. Furthermore, we described general characteristics of the wayside track occupancy detector and modeled the IFC(InterFace Contrivance) device and the logical circuit recognizing signal information. Then, we made an application program of PLC(programmable Logic Computer) based on the stated model. We, in relation to data transfer method, used the frame in TCP/IP transfer mode as the standard, and we demonstrated that ATO transmission frequency is intercepted.

In this paper, it is dealt with digital ATS Systems which are replaced the former ATS Systems in the advanced nation of railways. Especially, this paper shows the possibility of any developments for the digital ATS Systems by the experiment of digital ATS Systems by Frequency Shift Keying method.

솔-젤법으로 제조된 TiO2-SiO2 촉매상에서 CFC-113의 산화분해반응에 관한 연구 (A Study on Oxidative Decomposition of CFC-113 over TiO2-SiO2 Catalysts Prepared by the Sol-Gel Method)

  • CFCs(chlorofluorocarbons)에 의한 여러 지구 환경문제들이 발생되고 있는 가운데, 사용후 회수된 CFCs에 대하여 보다 안전한 파괴방법이 요구되고 있다. 이런 관점에서 CFC-113의 분해를 위한 보다 좋은 조건을 개발하고자 접촉 산화분해반응하에서 솔-젤법으로 만들어진 에어로젤 $TiO_2-SiO_2(ATS)$ 촉매에 대하여 본 연구를 행하였다. 솔-젤법으로 만들어진 ATS 촉매가 초기 활성에서 우수하였지만 반응시간이 경과함에 따라 침전법에 의해 제조된 촉매보다 급격한 활성저하를 나타내었다. 이런 비활성화의 원인은 SEM-EDX와 XRD의 분석으로부터 생성가스 $F_2$에 의한 촉매표면의 Si 원자에 대한 결합, 유출에 기인된 것으로 판단되었다. 그리고 ATS 촉매제조과정에서 prehydrolysis 방법으로 처리된 촉매가 촉매 표면의 산성도가 증가됨에 따라 촉매활성이 지속적으로 유지되고 촉매 피독에 의한 비활성화가 느리게 진행되는 것이 관찰되었다. 또한 ATS 촉매 반응에 있어서 Ti의 mol 비가 80%까지 증가함에 따라서도 산성도가 증가되어 본 반응에서 활성 유지와 비활성화 진행속도가 느리게 됨을 발견할 수 있었다. 한편, ATS 촉매에 대해 황산이온처리된 $ATS/SO_4{^{2-}}$ 촉매가 촉매의 활성유지와 비활성화 방지에 있어서 우수한 성질을 나타내었다. 그러므로 본 반응에 있어서 촉매 표면에 대한 황산이온의 처리가 촉매의 비활성화 방지에 기여할 수 있음을 알 수 있었다.

3차 병원에 입원한 한국 지역사회획득 폐렴 환자에서 미국흉부학회 추천 항생제의 유용성 (Efficacy of the Antibiotics Chosen by ATS Guideline in the Treatment of Korean Patients with Community-acquired Pneumonia Admitted to a Tertiary Hospital)

  • 연구배경 : 지역사회획득 폐렴의 치료는 질환의 중증도로 인해 원인균주의 증명없이 바로 경험적 항생제를 투여하는데, 미국흉부학회에서는 초기 경험적 항생제에 관한 지침을 1993년 제시한 바 있다. 그러나 한국의 경우 미국과 의료제도, 원인균, 항생제 내성 면에서 다르므로 미국흉부학회 지침이 한국의 지역사회획득 폐렴환자에서도 유용한지 알아보고자 했다. 방 법 : 1997년 4월 부터 1998년 3월 까지 삼성서울병원에 입원한 환자들 중 지역사회획득 폐렴으로 진단된 64명올 대상으로 후향적 연구를 시행하였다. 환자군은 항생제 초가선택에 따라 1) ATS군 ; ATS의 지침에 맞게 초기 항생제를 사용한 군, 2) Non-ATS overuse군 ; ATS의 지침보다 과하게 항생제를 사용한 군, 3) Non-ATS underuse군 ; ATS 지침보다 불충분한 항생제를 사용한 군으로 나누고 각 군간의 치료 반응, 실패 원인, 그리고 원인균올 조사하였다. 결 과 : ATS군 36명중 33명, Non-ATS overuse군 10명 중 9명, Non-ATS underuse군 18명중 14명에서 치료효과를 나타내었고 각 군간 치료 효과에서는 차이가 없었다(p>0.05). 원인균은 S. pneumoniae (12.5%), K. pneumoniae (9.4%), P. aeruginosa (4.7%), Mycoplasma (3.1%)의 순으로 나타났고 중증폐렴의 경우 Pseudomonas가 원인균인 경우는 1 례에 불과했고 Legionella 폐렴은 없었다. 결 론 : 미국흉부학회의 치료지침에 따른 항생제 선택은 우리나라의 지역사회획득폐렴의 치료에서 높은 효과를 보여 유용할 것으로 생각된다. 그러나 중증폐렴에서의 원인균주와 초기 항생제 선택에 있어 전향적인 연구가 필요할 것으로 생각된다.

  • 현재 우리나라에서 사용 중인 신호시스템은 지상신호 방식인 자동폐색장치(ABS)를 사용한다 이는 선로를 패색구간으로 배분한 후, 각각의 패색 구간에 설치된 신호기에 의해 열차의 이동을 실행한다 이러한 신호체계에 문제점이 발생할 경우, 기관사에게 주의를 환기시켜 강제적으로 열차를 정지시키는 역할을 하는 자동열차정지장치(ATS)가 1969년부터 도입, 사용 중에 있다. 본 논문에서는 ATS 시스템의 고속, 고밀도 운전 적용 가능성 및 차상신호방식 사용시의 ATS 적용 가능성에 대해 분석한다.

Amphetamine-type Stimulants in Drug Testing

  • Amphetamine-type stimulants (ATS) are a group of ${\beta}$-phenethylamine derivatives that produce central nervous system stimulants effects. The representative ATS are methamphetamine and 3, 4-methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA), and abuse of ATS has become a global problem. Methamphetamine is abused in North America and Asia, while amphetamine and 3, 4-methyle nedioxym ethamphetamine (Ecstasy) are abused in Europe and Australia. Methamphetamine is also the most abused drug in Korea. In addition to the conventional ATS, new psychoactive substances (NPS) including phenethylamines and synthetic cathinones, which have similar effects and chemical structure to ATS, continue to spread to the global market since 2009, and more than 739 NPS have been identified. For the analysis of ATS, two tests that have different theoretical principles have to be conducted, and screening tests by immunoassay and confirmatory tests using GC/MS or LC/MS are the global standard methods. As most ATS have a chiral center, enantiomer separation is an important point in forensic analysis, and it can be conducted using chiral derivatization reagents or chiral columns. In order to respond to the growing drug crime, it is necessary to develop a fast and efficient analytical method.

철도신호시스템 중첩운영으로 인한 전자파장해현상 분석 및 대책 (Analysis of EMI Between Overlapped Railway Signalling Systems and Its Countermeasure)

  • ATS(Automatic Train Stop) system makes train stop when it runs over the speed limit and ensure the safe operation of train. Seoul Metro line 2 in Korea, which started its passenger service in 1982, has adopted ATS system for its signaling system. The ATS system has only a train stop function at the time of emergency, and Seoul Metro is planning to replaced them with ATC(Automatic Train Control)/ATO(Automatic Train Operation) system which can provide the dedicated speed control for headway reduction and automatic operation of train. Until all the ATS system is replaced with the new ATC system, both systems are to operate simultaneously at the same metro line. In this situation, ATS system sometimes reveals improper operation: train stops suddenly without any obstacles in front of it. These emergency stops cause interruption of passenger service, and abnormal abrasion of wheels and rail. This paper makes it clear that these interruptions are caused by EMI phenomena between ATS on-board device and ATC wayside device : Signal current flowing in AF track circuit of ATC is turn out to be a EMI source that prevent normal operation of the ATS on-board device. Although the two systems have different frequency-ranges (ATS system has frequency range between $78{\sim}130$[kHz] and ATC system has frequency range between $9.5{\sim}16.5$[kHz]), it turned out that EMI phenomena appears between the both systems. This is investigated by measuring the output signal from ATS on-board device passing over ATC wayside device. The FFT(Fast Fourier Transform) analysis of the signal reveals that AF track circuit signal is transmitted to the ATS on-board device and induce noise causing improper operation. The countermeasures to the EMI phenomena are examined in three ways; blocking EMI transmission, enforcement of EMS (Electromagnetic Susceptibility) of ATS on-board device, and blocking the EMI source. It is suggested that the practical solution be blocking EMI source temporarily, that is breaking AF track circuit signal when the trains with ATS on-board device pass over it. To this purpose, TODS(Train Occupation Detection System) is developed, and has made a success in preventing the EMI problem of Seoul Metro line 2.
