  • In this paper, two different flight training devices were constructed to verify the effectiveness of a pilot training system based on a Virtual Reality Head Mount Display. VFR Flight Procedure and IFR Flight Procedure were conducted by high level pilots with Commercial Pilot Licence. Flight data and pilot's visual data for each flight procedure were extracted, compared and analyzed with two training systems. Finally, the effectiveness of the training systems based on the VR HMD was demonstrated by assessing the given mission and the flight results.

  • This study performed precision instrument landing procedures for pilots with a commercial pilot license using VR HMD flight simulators, and assuming that the center of the pilot's gaze is in the front, 3-D.O.F. head tracking data and 2-D eye tracking of VR HMD worn by pilots gaze tracking was performed through. After that, AOI (Area of Interesting) was set for the instrument panel and external field of view of the cockpit to analyze how the pilot's gaze was distributed before and after the decision altitude. At the same time, the landing results were analyzed using the Localizer and G/S data as the pilot's precision instrument landing flight data. As a result, the pilot was quantitatively evaluated by reflecting the gaze tracking and the resulting landing result using a VR HMD simulator.

  • The Long Term Evolution (LTE) system is designed to provide a high quality data service for fast moving mobile users. It is based on the Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) and relies its channel estimation on the training samples which are systematically built within the transmitting data. Either a preamble or a lattice type is used for the distribution of training samples and the latter suits better for the multipath fading channel environment whose channel frequency response (CFR) fluctuates rapidly with time. In the lattice-type structure, the estimation of the CFR makes use of the least squares estimate (LSE) for each pilot samples, followed by an interpolation both in time-and in frequency-domain to fill up the channel estimates for subcarriers corresponding to data samples. All interpolation schemes should rely on the pilot estimates only, and thus, their performances are bounded by the quality of pilot estimates. However, the additive noise give rise to high fluctuation on the pilot estimates, especially in a communication environment with low signal-to-noise ratio. These high fluctuations could be monitored in the alternating high values of the first forward differences (FFD) between pilot estimates. In this paper, we analyzed statistically those FFD values and propose a postprocessing algorithm to suppress high fluctuations in the noisy pilot estimates. The proposed method is based on a localized adaptive moving-average filtering. The performance of the proposed technique is verified on a multipath environment suggested on a 3GPP LTE specification. It is shown that the mean-squared error (MSE) between the actual CFR and pilot estimates could be reduced up to 68% from the noisy pilot estimates.

  • Called VISTA (Variable-stability In-flight Simulator Test Aircraft), the one-of-a-kind NF-l6D has a simulation system that can mimic several aircraft. Though housed in an F-l6 Fighting Falcon airframe, VISTA can also act like the F-15 Eagle or the Navy's F-14 Tomcat. More importantly, such flexibility allows for improved training and consolidation of some sorties. Consequently USAF Test Pilot School students will have an opportunity to learn how to test future integrated cockpits. In this paper we will use the multiple model adaptive estimation (MMAE) and the multiple model adaptive controller (MMAC) techniques to model the aircraft's flight control system containing the longitudinal and lateral-directional axes. Single and dual actuator and sensor failures will also be included in the simulation. White Gaussian noise will be included to simulate the effects of atmospheric disturbances.

  • This paper deals with the performance improvement by eliminating loop interference signal and inserting adaptive equalizer for phase compensation in OFDMA based Wibro relay station. The Wibro relay station is used for the extension of communication service area and for throughput improvement of base station. The loop interference is important factor of performance determination of relay station when transmitter and receiver is very closely located. In order to design interference canceller, we generated base-band OFDMA signal and then transmitted the signal along with pilot tones alined with two different combinations for training mode. And then, we generated received fading signal due to the loop interference added noise to the received signal. In the receiver, the transmitted signal is recovered by elimination of the interference signal with channel estimate and compensating phase by adaptive equalizer. The performance improvement was verified by computer simulation which show channel estimation, constellation of signal and BER characteristics according to the variation of SNR ratio.
