Library communities face many problems and limitations in describing alternative format materials based on the traditional MAchine Readable Cataloging (MARC) structure. To address these problems, this research proposes an XML-based descriptive metadata framework that establishes general but fundamental bibliographic aspects of various alternative format materials by providing core elements that are essential in describing these materials. Different from existing bibliographic structures, the proposed metadata framework can represent a fundamental descriptive structure by establishing four upper-level categories, 17 core elements, and 10 sub-elements in a hierarchical structure optimized to alternative format materials. By using this principal descriptive structure, the proposed metadata framework can guide different institutions in the creation of bibliographic records for these materials in a consistent way. It is also expected to address the difficulties in describing alternative format materials in library communities and enhance the information accessibility of individuals with various types of disabilities. In addition, the proposed metadata framework is an alternative approach which functions as a mediator between heterogeneous characteristics of alternative format materials and the existing bibliographic structures in library communities.

시각장애인에게 대체자료는 정보접근 및 이용, 지식정보 격차해소, 사회참여 및 통합에 매우 중요한 요소이다. 그럼에도 불구하고 대체자료는 최근까지도 점자도서관 등의 자발적 노력과 자치단체의 재정지원 하에 개인의 요청이나 담당자의 판단으로 제작되고 있기 때문에 그 범위가 문학자료와 교양 취미도서로 한정되고 중복제작 될 뿐만 아니라 대체포맷 또한 매우 제한적이다. 이에 본 연구에서는 국내외 도서관 및 관련 단체의 대체자료 제작사례를 분석하고 시각장애인도서관과 시각장애인을 대상으로 설문조사 방식을 적용하여 대체자료 제작현황과 인식을 조사 분석하였다. 이를 바탕으로 대체자료 제작 및 이용 활성화를 위한 개선방안을 제시하였다.

최근 장애인과 일반인이 공통으로 사용가능한 통합 전자출판 포맷 출현이 예상된다. 이를 국가 대체자료 제작 전략에 적용한다면, 기존 DTD(Document Type Definition)를 이용한 대체자료 제작 전략의 문제점뿐만 아니라 수요자의 요구에 맞는 다양한 대체자료 보급도 가능할 것으로 예상된다. 이와같이 급변하는 장애인용 대체자료 제작 관리 전략의 변화에 대응하기 위해 국립장애인도서관의 주요 역할을 충분히 해내기 위해서는 '대체자료 제작', '대체자료 연구 교육', '대체자료 정보망 운영' 등 각 주요 역할을 중심으로 대체자료 관련 전문 인력으로 구성된 센터를 설립하여 전문 역량을 발휘할 수 있도록 조직을 확대 개편하여야 한다.

본 연구는 국내에서 서비스되는 대체자료 장서 수준을 진단하고 향후 대체자료 장서개발의 방향성과 목표지향점을 제시하는 데 목적이 있다. 국가대체자료종합목록과 국내 인기도서 및 신간도서 목록을 장서기반 평가방법을 활용하여 비교·분석하였다. 연구결과 첫째, 10년간 인기도서 목록 기준 대체자료 장서 비율은 90.1%이다. '언어', '예술', '기술과학' 주제의 대체자료 장서 비율이 낮은 편이며, 제작 매체별은 '텍스트 데이지자료'의 비율이 높았다. 둘째, 국가대체자료종합목록을 기준으로 주제별, 매체별, 제작기관별 공통장서 확보율과 장서고유성 지수를 분석한 결과 대체자료의 소장 장서량이 많은 도서관에서 공통장서와 고유장서의 편향성이 높게 나타났다. 공통장서 확보율이 높은 주제는 문학과 사회과학 순이며, 장서고유성 지수가 높은 주제는 종교, 예술, 언어 순으로 나타났다. 셋째, 최근 3년간 신간도서의 대체자료 장서 비율은 5.09%이며 같은 기간 동안 공공도서관의 평균 도서구입율은 8.83%이다. 신간도서 대비 대체자료 장서 비율의 적정 기준은 존재하지 않으며 시각장애인의 정보격차 해소를 위해 신간도서 대비 대체자료 장서 비율을 공공도서관 도서구입율 수준으로 높일 것을 제언하고자 한다.

Animal testing was used traditionally in the cosmetics industry to confirm product safety, but has begun to be banned; alternative methods to replace animal experiments are either in development, or are being validated, worldwide. Research data related to test substances are critical for developing novel alternative tests. Moreover, safety information on cosmetic materials has neither been collected in a database nor shared among researchers. Therefore, it is imperative to build and share a database of safety information on toxicological mechanisms and pathways collected through in vivo, in vitro, and in silico methods. We developed the CAMSEC database (named after the research team; the Consortium of Alternative Methods for Safety Evaluation of Cosmetics) to fulfill this purpose. On the same website, our aim is to provide updates on current alternative research methods in Korea. The database will not be used directly to conduct safety evaluations, but researchers or regulatory individuals can use it to facilitate their work in formulating safety evaluations for cosmetic materials. We hope this database will help establish new alternative research methods to conduct efficient safety evaluations of cosmetic materials.

단위저록 방식의 평면적인 서지구조를 통해 생성되는 대체자료 서지레코드는 레코드 수준에서 관련된 대체자료와의 연계가 이루어질 수 없는 한계를 보이고 있으며, 이는 장애인들이 대체자료에 대한 접근성을 충분하게 확보하기가 어렵다는 문제를 야기하고 있다. 이에 본 연구에서는 FRBR 기반의 BIBFRAME 구조를 적용하여, 평면적인 대체자료 서지레코드와 다면적인 BIBFRAME 구조를 연결시킬 수 있는 연계 속성 구조를 구축하였다. 이를 위해 상위 수준의 연계 속성 카테고리를 구성하고 이를 BIBFRAME의 클래스와 속성에 연결시킴으로써 레코드 수준에서 관련된 대체자료 사이의 상호 연계가 가능한 서지 구조를 제안하였다.

본 연구에서는 시각장애인의 정보접근권으로서의 대체자료 이용만족도가 사회참여에 미치는 영향과 그 과정에서 자기효능감의 매개효과를 검증하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 경기도에 거주하는 등록시각장애인으로서, 시각장애인연합회 회원 중 임의표집하였으며, 전화조사를 통해 수집한 최종 120명에 대한 자료를 분석하였다. 조사대상자들의 대체자료를 이용현황은 녹음자료를 가장 많이 사용하고, 여가활용 및 정보검색의 목적이 가장 많으며, 장소는 점자도서관에서 주로 사용하는 것으로 나타났다. 분석결과, 시각장애인의 대체자료 이용만족도는 사회참여에 통계적으로 유의미한 영향을 미치며, 자기효능감은 완전매개효과가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 결과는 시각장애인의 사회참여 확대를 위한 정보접근권의 보장으로서 대체자료의 중요성을 보여준다. 연구결과를 바탕으로 향후 대체자료 활성화를 위한 정책적 제언을 하였다.

Public libraries provide information to all persons and its users are the inhabitants of the community it serves. This may not be the reality in some cases as some category of persons may not be properly served by the public library. This study assesses the provision of information materials in alternative format, in terms of its availability, access and level of use by the visually impaired in public libraries in southwestern Nigeria. The study adopted survey research design. Four (4) public libraries in four states were purposively selected because they are the ones that provide alternative format for the use of a sizable number of the visually impaired. Complete enumeration was used to capture all the 166 registered users of the libraries through the use of observations checklist and interview schedule. Data from 69.2% of the 166 visually impaired persons that were interviewed, and the observations made were analyzed. The result reveals that alternative formats availability were inadequate and, e-resources were not available while access to formats and information desired by the users were limited. Braille is the most utilized format; audio materials and large prints were seldom used. The demand for alternative formats is high but it is not related to level of use of materials. Provision of information materials in alternative formats for the visually impaired in public libraries cannot support the needs of the visually impaired; it requires intervention from all stakeholders. The study recommends improved investment and funding for public libraries and services to persons with disabilities.

회복탄성계수$(M_R)$로 표현되는 보조기층 재료의 탄성계수는 연성 포장체의 역학적 설계에 대단히 중요한 물성치이다. 그러나 반복재하식 $M_R$ 시험을 일상적 시험으로 적용하기에는 너무 시험과정이 복잡하고, 고가이며, 많은 시험시간을 필요로 한다. 본 연구에서는 보조기층 재료의 변형특성을 고려하여 현장공진주시험(EF-RC)을 이용한 대체 $M_R$ 시험법을 개발하였다. 보조기층 재료의 변형특성 평가를 위하여 변형률 크기 및 평균주응력의 탄성계수에 대한 영향을 조사하였다. 제안한 대체 $M_R$ 시험법으로 결정된 탄성계수와 반복재하식 $M_R$ 시험에서 결정된 회복탄성계수는 서로 잘 일치하여 제안된 기법의 효용성을 확인하였다.

Methane emitted from ruminant livestock is regarded as a loss of feed energy and also a contributor to global warming. Methane is synthesized in the rumen as one of the hydrogen sink products that are unavoidable for efficient succession of anaerobic microbial fermentation. Various attempts have been made to reduce methane emission, mainly through rumen microbial manipulation, by the use of agents including chemicals, antibiotics and natural products such as oils, fatty acids and plant extracts. A newer approach is the development of vaccines against methanogenic bacteria. While ionophore antibiotics have been widely used due to their efficacy and affordable prices, the use of alternative natural materials is becoming more attractive due to health concerns regarding antibiotics. An important feature of a natural material that constitutes a possible alternative methane inhibitor is that the material does not reduce feed intake or digestibility but does enhance propionate that is the major hydrogen sink alternative to methane. Some implications of these approaches, as well as an introduction to antibiotic-alternative natural materials and novel approaches, are provided.
