This study was carried out to obtain basic information on breeding using PCR-aided RFLP technology which can identify the variation inter- and intra-species of ginseng in the level of DNA. It was intended to investigate banding pattern on psbA and rbeL genes of chloroplast DNA in ginseng after treating with restriction enzymes. To isolate psbA and rbcL genes of chloroplast, both psbA-N, psbA-C primer and rbcL-N, PX-1 primer were used. As a result, 1,008 bp band of psbA gene and 1,336 bp band of rbcL gene were appeared, which was optimal and expected molecular weight. In addition, primers to isolate atpB, rpoB, trnL, and trnF genes were used, resulting in the expected 1366, 900, 1500 and 1008 bp bands. Genes of psbA and rbcL isolated by PCR were cut by restriction enzymes, Sau3A, TaqI, AluI, HaeIII, and RFLP pattern was investigated. KG line and other species of ginseng were cut by TaqI treatment, and bands were located in 800 bp. The treatment treated by AluI also showed the same 800 bp band in KG line and other species. In HaeIII treatment, 500 bp of faint bands were shown in case of KG line, whereas any bands were not observed in other species. All chloroplast genes formed bands by PCR amplification. However, it was not evident to distinguish intra-or inter-species of ginseng after restriction enzyme treatment. Therefore, more restriction enzyme treatment or sequence comparison method should be considered for further experiment.

Two parallel wide flange built-up beams are widely used as struts in resisting lateral earth pressure because of the effectiveness in structure and construction. In a certain structural system, the reinforced concrete columns are to be placed at the intersection where two perpendicular beams cross each other, the square part of the joint being filled with concrete. In the punching shear mechanism of the beam-column joint, the radial deformation caused due to shear cracking will be constrained by the spring action of the squarely encompassed beam flanges. As a result, the punching shear strength of the joint concrete can be expected to be increased. To verify this phenomenon experiments have been performed for various constraining elements and distances between columns and constraints. Test results are compared with the approximation analysis formula which has been proposed in this study, based on the code formula. The results calculated by the proposed equation show comparatively close agreement with the punching shear strength detected from the test.
The initiation and growth processes of cyclic ice body in porous systems are affected by the thermo-physical and mass transport properties, as well as gradients of temperature and chemical potentials. Furthermore, the diffusivity of deicing chemicals shows significantly higher value under cyclic freeze-thaw conditions. Consequently, the disintegration of concrete structures is aggravated at marine environments, higher altitudes, and northern areas. However, the properties of cyclic freeze-thaw with crack growth and the deterioration by the accumulated damages are hard to identify in tests. In order to predict the accumulated damages by cyclic freeze-thaw, a regression analysis by the response surface method (RSM) is used. The important parameters for cyclic freeze-thawdeterioration of concrete structures, such as water to cement ratio, entrained air pores, and the number of cycles of freezing and thawing, are used to compose the limit state function. The regression equation fitted to the important deterioration criteria, such as accumulated plastic deformation, relative dynamic modulus, or equivalent plastic deformations, were used as the probabilistic evaluations of performance for the degraded structural resistance. The predicted results of relative dynamic modulus and residual strains after 300 cycles of freeze-thaw show very good agreements with the experimental results. The RSM result can be used to predict the probability of occurrence for designer specified critical values. Therefore, it is possible to evaluate the life cycle management of concrete structures considering the accumulated damages due to the cyclic freeze-thaw using the proposed prediction method.
This study was performed to get information of self-healing mechanism in cement system and the influence of waterproofing admixtures for concrete on self-healing property. For testing, cement paste specimens cured for 7, 14 and 28 days were prepared and crushed into plate-shape pieces. Screened specimens with thickness not more than 1mm were covered with wet rags and cured in a plastic container for 7 and 28 days. After stopping hydration process of the specimens by treatment with acetone, the surfaces of specimens have been contacted with wet rags were analyzed by XRD, DSC, SEM and EDX. The analysis results showed that cement paste has self-healing property and this property is mainly affected by water. Self-healing in cement system is more effective and faster at an early stage of hydration as there is enough content of unreacted cement to make an additional hydration in this period. The results of this study also showed that waterproofing admixtures for concrete have a considerable effect on self-healing of cement pastes; i.e., they improved self-healing effect of cement and, especially, the specimen using admixture C has shown a lot of needle-like or fibrous hydration products which are estimated as ettringite. It is supposed that these ettringite products are effective to enhance self-healing in cement system.
It is critical to develop a core ITS technology such as real-time travel time estimation in order that the efficient use of the ITS implementation can be achieved as the ITS infrastructure and relevant facilities are broadly installed in recent years. The provision of travel time information in real-time allows travellers to make informed decisions and hence not only the traveller's travel utilities but also the road utilization can be maximized. In this paper, a hybrid model is proposed to combine VDS and AVI which have different characteristics in terms of space and time dimensions. The proposed model can incorporate the immediacy of VDS data and the reality of AVI data into one single framework simultaneously. In addition, the solution algorithm is made to have no significant computational burden so that the model can be deployable in real world. A set of real field data is used to analyze the reliability and applicability of the proposed model. The analysis results suggest that the proposed model is very efficient computationally and improves the accuracy of the information provided, which demonstrates the real-time applicability of the proposed model. In particular, the data fusion methodology developed in this paper is expected to be used more widely when a new type of traffic data becomes available.
Measuring intellectual capital efficiency is one of the greatest challenges for all who are involved in knowledge-based economy, at macro as well as at micro level. The purpose of this study is to calculate and analyze the efficiency of national intellectual capital and value added intellectual coefficient for Korea, US, Japan, and China during the period 2000-2005. Major findings from the analysis can be summarized as follows. The US shows both the highest value creation efficiency of national intellectual capital, 1.480 and the highest value added intellectual coefficient, 6.585. It holds rank one according to GDP per capita, $41,541 in 2005. In Korea, the coefficient of national intellectual capital efficiency is 1.321 while that of value added intellectual capital is 4.733. However, the national intellectual capital efficiency of Japan, 1.271 is in opposition to the created high of vale added, 5.695. Finally, China shows that the coefficient of national intellectual capital efficiency is 1.438 while that of value added intellectual capital is 3.815.

The aircraft manufacturing industry is a profitable business and has the potential to be an important export business. Our trade deficit needs to be improved in aircraft manufacturing part. Our national aircraft industry, which has been recognized for its quality in many domestic and international Air Shows, has developed the T/A-50 aircraft from the origins of the KT-1. With the ongoing development of the next generation fighter planes and helicopters, business for the next generation domestic air cargo has bright prospects. Judging by the history of the overseas air force dispatch during the Vietnam, Gulf, and Iraqi wars whose main mission was air transportation, there will be many opportunities to show the excellence of Korean air cargo in the future. The purpose of this study is to discover the optimal scale of air cargo development using the AHP method. The authors evaluated the scale of air cargo in size and capacity based on the following 5 standards used Korean developing airliner: usability, economics, technology, safety, and environmental friendliness. Then, the authors modified specific standards suitable for air cargo based on literature review Decision-making groups were chosen for suitability of expert staff in charge because they could represent for leading opinions in this specialized area especially as in practical aspects. The participants of the evaluation were pilots, transportation officers and management staff in the KAI who have experienced over 5years.

Macrobenthos species-area relationship was investigated and empirical models were estimated to enable comparisons among species numbers of different sample size. The study aims to choose a way to predict cumulative relative species number (CRSN) in a given sample size Saemangeum, located in the west coast of South Korea, were visited in Apr., May and Aug.,2002 and a total of 261 biological samples from 87 stations were obtained by employing a quantitative sediment sampler, Smith-McIntyre grab and design of 3 replicates at each station. Relative species numbers (%) were baselined at sample size of 1000 $\textrm{cm}^2$ and the patterns of CRSN along the axis of sample size were measured and observed. In correlation analysis performed on a set of abiotic and biotic variables, log-transformed CRSN showed the only significant relationship with log-transformed density. Based on the result, three models, Log CRSN 2000, Log CRSN 3000 and Log CRSN were produced. The former two were devised to predict CRSN at 2000 and 3000 $\textrm{cm}^2$ respectively, and the latter at various sample sizes and samplers (all p-values were <0.001). Database from other studies (intertidal or subtidal macrofaunal samples from Kyonggi Bay and Saemangeum) were used to evaluate validity of the models. Observed CRSN below sample size of 3000 $\textrm{cm}^2$ fell under the range of 95% prediction interval and this was appeared to provide reliability of the models below that sample size.

The purpose of this study was to identify the correlation between burden and teaching effectiveness on clinical nursing practice. The subjects were collected 135 clinical nurses who have taught nursing students and worked at hospitals which have over 400 beds in Seoul, Inchon, and Kyoung-gi Do. The instruments used in this study were : the burden on clinical nursing education was measured by Montgomery (1985) developed and visual analogue scale, and effectiveness of clinical instruction was measured by Reeve (1994) developed. The results of this study were as follows. 1) Seeing that the general characteristics of participants : average ages we 32.8 years old, 29.6% of them have Catholics in religions. 75.6% of them were graduated from 3-year nursing college. 20.7% of nurses are working at the surgery ward and I.C.U in each. Clinical nursing career is average 10.03 years, clinical instructional career is 5.22 years, and clinical teaching time is 5.26 hours in a day. Contents of clinical teaching were composed of basic nursing skills 80.7%, orientation 78.5%, inspection(making rounds) 71.9%. 2) The mean score of the burden on clinical nursing instructor was 2.42 by Montgomery's scale and 4.69 by the visual analogue scale. Theses scores represented that subjects were not affected burden highly. The mean score of leaching effectiveness on clinical nursing education was 3.47 and the almost items were found to have higher level. 3) There is no statistically significant differences in the burden according to general characteristics. And the teaching effective ness on clinical nursing education according to general characteristics regarding the age, job position, clinical career and clinical educational time were shown statistically significant differences. 4) There is a negative correlation between the burden and teachin effectiveness on clinical nursing education with a correlation efficient(r=-0.396, p<0.01). Further study is recommended to explore the meaning of burden experiences of clinical instructor deeply and to identify the correlation between the burden of clinical instructor and teaching effectiveness as the job position, and to analysis differences in teaching effectiveness as subcategories.

In this paper, we propose two hot standby architectures which not only provide high system availability but also lose little data on fault occurrence. In order to evaluate the performance of the proposed hot standby architectures, the warm standby architecture. In order to evaluate the performance of the propose d hot standby architectures, the warm standby architecture which is made from the hot standby architecture by eliminating its synchronization unit is considered. After system unavailability for each architecture is computed by using the corresponding Markov state diagram, the results are compared and evaluated. As the results, in most cases, hot standby architectures have higher availability than warm standby architecture. Also, hot standby architecture with external synchronization unit always maintains a little higher availability than hot standby architecture with internal synchronization unit. Active set time and personnel recovery rate for each architecture have little effect on system availability. However, in the case that data recovery time is too long, system availabilities of hot standby architectures and warm standby architecture degrade rapidly. In this case, the performance degradation of hot standby architectures is severe, and system availabilities of hot standby architectures eventually become lower than system availability of warm standby architecture.
