Remote handling systems for the ISAC and ARIEL high-power fission and spallation ISOL target facilities at TRIUMF

  • TRIUMF, Canada's particle accelerator centre, is constructing a new high-power ISOL (Isotope Separation On-Line) facility called ARIEL (Advanced Rare IsotopE Laboratory). Thick porous targets will be bombarded with up to 48 kW of 480 MeV protons from TRIUMF's cyclotron, or up to 100 kW of 30 MeV electrons from a new e-linac, to produce short-lived radioisotopes for a variety of applications, including nuclear astrophysics, fundamental nuclear structure and nuclear medicine. For efficient release of radioisotopes, the targets are heated to temperatures approaching 2000 ℃, and are exposed to GSv/h level radiation fields resulting from intended fissions and spallations. Due to these conditions, the operational life for each target is only about five weeks, calling for frequent remote target exchanges to limit downtime. A few days after irradiation, the targets have a residual radiation field producing a dose rate on the order of 10 Sv/h at 1 m, requiring several years of decay prior to shipment to a national disposal facility. TRIUMF is installing new remote handling infrastructure dedicated to ARIEL, including hot cells and a remote handling crane. The system design applies learnings from multiple existing facilities, including CERN-ISOLDE, GANIL-SPIRAL II as well as TRIUMF's ISAC (Isotope Separator and ACcelerator).

상호대차에 의한 원문복사서비스의 도서관 면책에 관한 연구 (A Study on Library Exemption of Document Delivery Service by Interlibrary Loan)

  • 도서관 상호대차에 의한 원문복사서비스는 정보를 공동 이용하여 이용자의 정보요구를 충족시켜 주기 위한 진보된 형태의 서비스이다. 현재 상호대차에 의한 원문복사서비스의 면책 적용에 관해서는 해석이 분분하다. 본 연구의 목적은 Fax 및 Ariel 시스템을 이용한 원문복사의 저작권 문제에 관한 법적 해결 방안을 제시하는 데 있다. 이를 위하여 상호대차에 의한 원문복사서비스에 관한 국제적인 면책 적용의 동향을 검토하였다. 우리 현행저작권법에 입각한 원문복사서비스의 면책 적용에 대한 해석들을 분석하였고 문제점을 지적하였다. 이러한 분석 결과를 기초로 하여, 원문복사서비스와 관련한 현행 저작권법상의 도서관 면책 규정의 문제점을 해결하기 위한 법적 개정방안과 그 조문을 구체적으로 제시하였다. 따라서 본 연구가 제시한 법적 개정 방안은 2005년 또는 향후 도서관 면책 규정의 개정을 위한 기초 자료로 활용될 수 있을 것이다.

투구시 속구와 멀리던지기 동작의 운동학적 비교분석 (Kinematical Analysis of Fastball and Longtoss during Baseball Throwing)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 속구와 멀리던지기 동작 사이의 상호관계를 밟히며, 속구와 멀리던지기 동작의 투구시 운동학적으로 어떠한 차이가 있는 밝히는 것이다. 8명의 대학교 야구선수들이 실험에 참여하였다. APAS(Ariel Performance Analysis System) 동작분석시스템을 이용하여 속구와 멀리던지기 동작에 대한 운동학적 변인을 구하여 분석하였다. 본 연구의 결과로 신체중심의 전후변위에서 투구후반부에서 속구가 멀리던지기보다 신체중심이 앞으로 이동하였고, 상하변위에서는 속구가 더 낮은 자세를 보였다. 오른손의 속도에서는 릴리즈 시 속구가 더 빠르게 나타났고, 팔꿈치관절에서는 투구중반부에서는 속구가 더 신전되었고, 릴리즈에서는 동일하였고, 어깨관절에서는 팔 가속지점에서 속구가 더 신전된 것으로 나타났다. 몸통경사에서는 릴리즈 시 속구는 전방으로 멀리던지기는 후방경사를 취하고 있었다. 보폭은 속구가 더 긴 것으로 나타났다. 2가지 투구동작에서 동일한 자세에서 시작하지만, 각 변인에 따라 공통점과 차이점을 발견할 수 있었다. 이러한 이유로, 속구를 던지기 위해 멀리던지기 훈련이 어느 정도 도움이 될 것으로 생각된다.

12주간 수중운동이 낙상 경험 여성 노인들의 보행에 미치는 영향 (Effects of 12-week Aquatic Exercise on Gait in the Falls Experienced Elderly Women)

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the effects of after aquatic exercise on gait in the Falls Experienced elderly. There were one group : Fall Experienced Elderly Women(n=8). They were tested on their gait (Elapse time of each phase, Stance time of limb, Stride length, Velocity of segment). we took video and analyzed their movement using Ariel Performance Analysis System and compared gait parameters. For data analysis, mean and standard deviation scores were calculated, and correspondence sample t-test and pearson's correlation analysis were used. First, after exercise is short than before exercise on Elapse time of each phase, fall-experience subjects showed meaningful total time. Second, after exercise is short than before exercise on Stance time of limb and Stride length, fall-experience subjects showed meaningful Stride length. Third, after exercise is fast than before exercise on Velocity of segment.

Controlling a lamprey-based robot with an electronic nervous system

  • We are developing a biomimetic robot based on the Sea Lamprey. The robot consists of a cylindrical electronics bay propelled by an undulatory body axis. Shape memory alloy (SMA) actuators generate propagating flexion waves in five undulatory segments of a polyurethane strip. The behavior of the robot is controlled by an electronic nervous system (ENS) composed of networks of discrete-time map-based neurons and synapses that execute on a digital signal processing chip. Motor neuron action potentials gate power transistors that apply current to the SMA actuators. The ENS consists of a set of segmental central pattern generators (CPGs), modulated by layered command and coordinating neuron networks, that integrate input from exteroceptive sensors including a compass, accelerometers, inclinometers and a short baseline sonar array (SBA). The CPGs instantiate the 3-element hemi-segmental network model established from physiological studies. Anterior and posterior propagating pathways between CPGs mediate intersegmental coordination to generate flexion waves for forward and backward swimming. The command network mediates layered exteroceptive reflexes for homing, primary orientation, and impediment compensation. The SBA allows homing on a sonar beacon by indicating deviations in azimuth and inclination. Inclinometers actuate a bending segment between the hull and undulator to allow climb and dive. Accelerometers can distinguish collisions from impediment to allow compensatory reflexes. Modulatory commands mediate speed control and turning. A SBA communications interface is being developed to allow supervised reactive autonomy.

Information Systems for Organizational Agility: Action Research on Resource Scheduling at the Universidad de Chile

  • Organizations need to exhibit characteristics of agility to stay ahead of their competitors and to survive in dynamic environments. One major concern for organizations is how to implement Information Systems (ISs) to enhance their agility. Organizations tend to spend too many resources to change their entire IS instead of only the components that cause problems without exactly knowing whether it enables or suppress organizational agility. To address these shortcomings and practical issues, we provide a framework to assess organizational agility and to diagnose a problem related to IS. By applying this prototype of the Agility Framework, we were able to diagnose a problem that the department of Management Control and Information Systems at the Universidad de Chile had and planned actions for them to improve its organizational agility with a course scheduling system, eClasSkeduler. This action research, which took more than 25-month for the first cycle, further develops the Agility Framework, which not only provides a way to link IS with organizational functions but also illustrates how to use it to diagnose a situation and plan actions for improving organizational agility through an information system.

스마트 무인기용 터보축 엔진(PW206C)의 장착성능에 관한 연구 (Study on Installed Performance of Turbo Shaft Engine (PW206C) for the Smart UAV)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze both the design and off design performance simulation of the PW206C turbo shaft engine used in the development of the smart UAV (Unmanned Ariel Vehicle) by KARI(Korean Aerospace Research Institute). Its mainly aims to investigate performance behavior at the un-installed and installed conditions. The ways employed to be able to analyze the performance extensively were mainly carried out by comparison of performance simulation results from both the commercial program 'GASTURB 9' using compressor maps generated by Genetic algorithms (GAs) or Scaling Method, and the engine manufacturer's program 'EEPP'. Off-design performance analysis was performed through matching of both mass flow and work between engine components. The set of performance simulations of the developed analytical models was performed by a commercial program package (GASTURB 9) that provides great flexibility in the choice of independent variables of the overall system. The results from the simulations are used to compare turbo shaft engine (PW206C) performance data obtained by the EEPP. At un-installed condition, it was found that the results with the compressor map generated by GAs were relatively agreed well than those with the compressor map generated by the Scaling Method. The performance calculation results using the compressor map generated by GAs were compared at un-installed condition and installed conditions with ECS-off and ECS-Max in variation of altitude, gas generator speed and flight speed.

지지면의 수평 진동에 따른 동적 자세 제어 특성에 관한 연구 (Study on the Characteristic of Dynamic Postural Control during Horizontal Translation of Support Surface)

  • This paper investigated the effects of dynamic postural control for maintaining upright standing on a support surface during continuous sinusoidal horizontal translation in anterior-posterior direction. 15 healthy young subjects participated in this experiment. The analysis of body movement was analyzed using Ariel Performance Analysis System. Motion pattern was analyzed by seven markers on subject's body. Position of markers were head, chest, hip, right knee, left knee, right ankle and left ankle. Seven different frequencies of support surface were employed ; 0.1, 0.25, 0.5, 0.75, 1, 1.5 and 2Hz at 2cm of moving path of motionbase. The experiments were performed dynamic postural reponses at the condition of eye open. The results showed that median frequency of the knee, ankle were increased in all frequency bands. Following the frequency of perturbation increased, postural control strategy was changed from ankle strategy to combined strategy. The experiment results could be applied to the dynamic postural training for the elderly and the rehabilitation training for the patients to improving the ability of postural control.

숙련도와 시선형태가 골프퍼팅의 정확성에 미치는 영향 (The Effects of Accuracy on Skill Level and Eye-Tracking Type in Golf Putting)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 골프 퍼팅 시 숙련자와 초보자의 시각형태에 따른 운동학적 변인과 임펙트 시 퍼터 헤드의 정확성에 어떠한 차이가 있는지를 밝히는 것이다. 초보자 5명과 KPGA 세미프로 이상의 자격을 가진 5명의 선수들이 실험에 참여하였다. 3대의 카메라를 이용한 APAS(Ariel Performance Analysis System) 동작분석 시스템을 이용하여 퍼터헤드의 정확성과 운동학적 변인을 구하여 분석하였다. 본 연구의 결과로 퍼팅 시 볼의 정확성, 운동학적 분석의 결과를 토대로 볼 때, 숙련자 집단에서는 퍼팅 시 시선형태가 전혀 영향을 미치지 않았다. 이는 곧 숙련자 집단의 경우 장기간의 연습을 통해 관절 동작이 고정되어 있어 기계적인 스트로크를 한다는 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 하지만, 초보자 집단의 경우 시선형태에 따른 퍼팅 양쪽 모두 어느 정도의 장 단점을 가지고 있는 것으로 판단된다. 또한, 퍼터헤드의 변위가 속도보다 정확성에 더 큰 영향이 미치는 것으로 사료된다.
