  • PURPOSE: This study examined the status of the efficient supply of assistive devices for students with disabilities. METHODS: A complete investigation was conducted on the request and supply of assistive devices for students with disabilities at the Korea National University of Welfare. The subjects were 112 students with disabilities who applied for assistive device rental. The status of the supply of assistive devices according to the type of disability was investigated. The overall satisfaction with learning support was measured. The questionnaire content was categorized into the following three factors to determine learning support satisfaction: support overall (role, staff, facilities) learning support (learning support, learning counseling, life consultation), assistive device supply (counseling, rental, uses, rental period, maintenance services). RESULTS: The most common type of students with disabilities was physical disabilities 62 (29.38%) and hearing impairments 62 (29.38%). Students with physical disabilities and brain lesions rented manual and electric wheelchairs the most. Learning support satisfaction was evaluated considering the factors support overall, learning and assistive device supply effects. satisfaction of learning support for students with disabilities 83.5 points. CONCLUSION: The satisfaction with assistive device supply appears to be relatively lower than support overall. Each university will gradually secure assistive devices that suit the characteristics of students with disabilities.

  • This study is was to suggest improvement of assistive device for the elderly according to investigate the satisfaction and the needs of assistive device for elderly. The subjects were 184 beneficiary older adults in long-term health insurance who used home care service in I city and D city. Data were analyzed using SPSS 20.0. With the exception of cognitive assistance grade, subjects were showed from 'normal' to ' satisfied' on a types of assistive device and services related to assistive device. I, II grade subjects needed assistive device for self-care. III, IV and V grade subjects needed assistive device for safety and health maintenance. In the service related assistive device, All subjects needed service on 'periodic follow-up service', 'expert on assistive device' and 'comprehensive evaluation'. This results is significant in that it suggest to needed assistive device in accordance with grade unlike previous studies. Results of this study will expected to utilize as a basic evidence for improvement of assistive device, service related to assistive device for elderly.

  • Background: The purpose of this study was to develop a sit-to-stand transfer assistive device, and to conduct a feasibility test. Design: A technical note. Methods and results: In this study, we developed a sit-to-stand transfer assistive device for the elderly and the disabled who have difficulty standing up independently from sitting positions. The sit-to-stand transfer assistive device allows the user to transfer the weight from a sitting position to a standing position while shifting the weight forward by grabbing and pulling a support stand. Ten healthy adults participated in the feasibility test of the device. Each participant used the developed sit-to-stand transfer assistive device and investigated supplementation through a brief interview. As a result of the feasibility test, the opinion was that the device could assist the sit-to-stand transfer to some extent. There were opinions that it needed a function to adjust the height of the knee protective plate in the sitting position according to the user's physical characteristics. Because of the inconvenience of operating the lock device for fixing the position and adjusting inclination, there was an opinion that the improvement for a locking device is needed. There were opinions that it would be better to reduce the size of the device due to its inconvenience of portability. Conclusion: In this study, we developed the sit-to-stand transfer assistive device for the elderly and the disabled who have difficulty standing up independently from sitting positions. In addition, it is considered that the upgrade of the device is necessary for the future since there are supplementary opinions on some points.

  • This study was aimed to examine effects of the assistive technology program that has purpose to maintain and promote employment of persons with disabilities. An administrative data constructed by the Korea Employment Agency for the Disabled(KEAD) was utilized. Propensity score matching were used as analysis methods to minish sample selection bias caused by nonrandom sampling. As a result, turnover rate of people with disabilities who used assistive technology device was lower compared to persons with disabilities did not use assistive technology device. Also, in terms of company, for employment promotion effect on the persons with disabilities, company that provided assistive technology device was higher than that of company did not provide assistive technology device. Finally, assistive technology devices were effective in the employment area was confirmed.

  • In this paper, an assistive device for a knee joint to help a disabled person to stand up by supporting power is presented. The device is designed and controlled by using damping characteristics of the MR (Magneto-Rheological) damper. The MR damper helps the person to sit slowly and safely. A DC motor supports muscle power in the case of standing motion. Thus the device helps the disabled person to sit down and stand up. Through the experiments, it is feasible that an assistive device can help the disabled person to standup according to the foot pressure change.

  • In this study, we present how our assistive technology service worked in the public funds delivery system through the center of professional assistive technology in Gwangju. In detail, among total 253 applicants for assistive device support business for disabled, 28 clients and 28 clients failed to get the support because of self-withdrawl and insuitability, respectively. The left 225 clients finally got the chance to use the assistive device; especially, 28 clients will get the alternative device which was recommended through the assistive technology professionals. Therefore, this work is believed to be a good example of how mediation of professionals in assistive technology center leads to the efficient use of public funds.

  • This study is aimed to identify latent classes which are based the change patterns in assistive technology device use among worker with disabilities and to test the effects of independent variables(gender, education, disability type, disability density, activity and participation of ICF: ICF, subjective socioeconomic status: SES, job satisfaction, life satisfaction) on determining latents classes. This study applied Nagin's(1999) semi-parametric group based approach to the panel survey of employment for the disabled. Because dependant variable has dichotomous scale, logit model was used. The results identified three latent classes, which could be defined based on the patterns as follows; assistive device continued use group, assistive device mid-level use group, assistive device sharp decline use group. The effects of the independent variables on the latent classes was tested by multinomial logit analysis. The results showed that education, disability type, ICF, SES, and life satisfaction were significant determinants of the latent classes. Finally, the implications based on analysis results were suggested.

  • The purpose of this study is to suggest improvement directions and analysis of assistive technology service linkage on public benefits in local assistive technology center. The service steps and the main program parts of public benefits linkage in local assistive technology center was identified, and the present status of associated repair works and contact suppliers of assistive technology device in local community was investigated. The result showed the most common level of associated status to provide information of assistive technology devices in public benefits. All the centers provided repair service, and it was typically performed to light maintenance. The centers offered with associated professional repair service supplier for high maintenance service. The connection with assistive technology device supplier appeared a lot of regional difference. Henceforth, the centers will be required to distribute more various assistive technology devices, it is necessary upgrading the quality of information and interaction with the public benefits supporting organizations through its expansion, and it is need to ensure based on policy through the analysis of the effectiveness about linkage.

  • The Law method is observing the temporal bone. There are two types of methods: the double angle method, which manipulates the center ray angle of the tube twice, and the single angle method, which manipulates once. The purpose is to increase the reproducibility of the image by making vertical incidence by making an assistive device using a 3D printer. Two assistive devices with a wedge-shaped 8.5 × 10 × 2.3 cm, an inclined surface of 7.5 cm, and an inclination angle of 15° were fabricated. Assistive devices can be combined with each other in the form of grooves, and PLA (Poly Lactic Acid) is used as a material. In the first experiment, 10 examiners operated the tube 15° in the caudad direction and 15° in the anterior direction, and measured it with a protractor to conduct a reproducibility experiment. Second, two examiners acquired vertically incidence images using the existing law method and assistive devices, and measured the distance between each measurement point to evaluate the reproducibility. The tube center ray angle reproducibility experiment was not statistically significant, but the angle difference was up to 9° between examiners. The reproducibility experiment of radiographic images was not statistically significant with the conventional method, and the method using an assistive device was statistically significant. Therefore, regardless of skill level, an image capable of securing reproducibility, which is the advantage of vertical incidence, could be obtained.
