  • Objectives : The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effect of cotreatment with $Samgieum-gagam$, acupuncture and sweet bee venom acupuncture on post-stroke shoulder pain. Methods : The subjects in this study were 43 patients with post-stroke hemiplegic shoulder pain. These patients were randomly divided into four groups : the group treated with acupuncture, the group cotreated with acupuncture and sweet bee venom acupuncture, the group cotreated with acupuncture and $Samgieum-gagam$, the group cotreated with acupuncture, sweet bee venom acupuncture and Samgieumgagam, They were treated for 4 weeks, and the effectiveness was assessed by visual analogue scale(VAS), Fugl-Meyer motor assessment(FMMA), painless passive ROM of shoulder external rotation(PROM), Modified Ashworth sacle(MAS) and Satisfaction. Results : All groups showed significant change in VAS, FMMA and PROM. The group cotreated with acupuncture, sweet bee venom acupuncture and $Samgieum-gagam$ showed more effectiveness in VAS and FMMA than the group treated with acupuncture. There was no significant difference in MAS among groups. Conclusions : This study suggests that cotreatment with $Samgieum-gagam$, acupuncture and sweet bee venom acupuncture is more effective than acupuncture treatment only on post-stroke shoulder pain. Further study based on many other combination methods, larger population, and long term follow-up is needed to confirm this suggestion.

  • Objectives : Bee venom has been widely practiced in many countries around the world. The number of clinical trials and biochemical researches on bee venom has been constantly increasing. The objective of this study is to analyze the trend of research on bee venom using bibliometric approach, a quantitative analytical method. Methods : We searched articles about bee venom which were published from 2000 to 2019 from Web of Science Database. Original and review articles published in English were included and data were extracted in terms of publication year, country, journal, keywords, organizations, and authors. Trends in bee venom research were visualized using VOSviewer program. Results : 1,547 English articles about bee venom were identified and analyzed. South Korea is a main hub in the field of bee venom research. Research organizations in South Korea showed high link strength with domestic organizations as well as with international organizations. A keyword analysis showed the following three major types of studies: studies on components of bee venom, studies on allergy and immune response, and clinical research of bee venom therapy. Conclusions : This study provides a macroscopic overview of the research on bee venom. This bibliometric analysis has identified influential authors and organizations in the field on bee venom research and provides a useful guideline to researchers who are in search of contributory research topics.

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study was to investigate the anti-caner effect of Bee Venom and Melittin on the prostatic cancer cell(PC-3). The goal of study is to ascertain whether Bee Venom and Melittin inhibits the cell growth and cell cycle of PC-3, or the expression of relative genes and whether the regression of PC-3 cell growth is due to cell death or the expression of gene related to apoptosis. Methods : After the treatment of Pc-3 cells with Bee Venom and Melittin, we performed Fluorescence microscope, MTT assay, Western blotting, Flow cytometry, PAGE electrophoresis and Surface plasmon resonance analysis to identify the cell viability, apoptosis and gene related to apoptosis. Results : 1. Compared with Control cell, the inhibition of cell growth reduced in proportion with the dose of Bee Venom or Melittin($0{\sim}10{\mu}g/ml$) in PC-3. 2. In PC-3, Cell viabilities of Bee Venom or Melittin treatment was decreased significantly. 3. The nucli of Control cells were stained round and homogenous in DAPI staining, but those of PC-3 were stained condense and splitted. 4. In PC-3, apoptosis of Bee Venom or Melittin treatment was increased significantly. 5. Bax, Caspase-3 and P ARP of Bee Venom or Melittin treatment was increased significantly and Bcl-2 of Bee Venom or Melittin treatment was decreased significantly. Caspase-9 of Bee venom treatment was increased significantly. Conclusion : These results indicate that Bee Venom and Melittin inhibits the growth of prostate cancer cells, has anti-cancer effects by inducing apoptosis. We wish that the anti-cancer effects of Bee Venom and Melittin are used to clinical caner treatment.

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of Bee Venom and Melittin acupuncture solution on the lipopolysaccharide and sodium nitroprusside- induced expression of cytosolic phospholipase $A_2$, tumor necrosis factor-${\alpha}$ and calcium concentration in RAW 264.7 cells, a murine macrophage cell line. Methods : The expression of cytosolic phospholipase $A_2$ and tumor necrosis factor-${\alpha}$ was determined by western blotting with corresponding antibodies, and the generation of intracellular calcium concentration was investigated by delta scan system in RAW 264.7 cells. Results : 1. Compared with control, expressions of lipopolysaccharide-induced cytosolic phospholipase $A_2$ were decreased significantly by $5{\mu}g/mL$ of bee venom and 5, $10{\mu}g/mL$ of melittin acupuncture solution and decreased by 0.5, $1{\mu}g/mL$ of bee venom. 2. Compared with control, expressions of sodium nitroprusside-induced phospholipase $A_2$ were decreased significantly by 0.5, 1, $5{\mu}g/mL$ of bee venom and by 5, $10{\mu}g/mL$ of melittin acupuncture solution. 3. Compared with control, expressions of lipopolysaccharide-induced tumor necrosis factor-${\alpha}$ were decreased significantly by $10{\mu}g/mL$ of melittin acupuncture solution and were not changed significantly by 0.5, 1, $5{\mu}g/mL$ of bee venom and $5{\mu}g/mL$ of melittin acupuncture solution. 4. Compared with control, expressions of sodium nitroprusside-induced tumor necrosis factor-${\alpha}$ were decreased significantly by 1, $5{\mu}g/mL$ of bee venom and 5, $10{\mu}g/mL$ of melittin acupuncture solution and decreased by $0.5{\mu}g/mL$ of bee venom 5.
