Influence of Frictional Behavior Depending on Contact Pressure on Springback at U Draw Bending (접촉 압력에 의한 마찰 특성 변화가 U 드로우 굽힘에서의 스프링백에 미치는 영향)

  • Variation of contact pressure causes change of friction coefficient, which in turn changes stress distribution in the sheet being formed and final springback. In the present study, U-draw bending experiments were carried out under constant blank holding force(BHF) and different blank sizes, and finite element analysis was conducted with and without considering contact pressure effect on friction. When the BHF was sufficiently high, the degree of springback was different between constant blank holding pressure condition and that with varying blank holding pressure. Finite element analysis considering the influence of contact pressure effect on friction could explain the occurrence of springback.

Development of Numerically Controlled Cushion System for Use in Deep Drawing of Sheet Metals (박판의 덥 드로잉 성형을 위한 수치제어 쿠션 시스팀의 개발)

  • It is well known, for many years, that deep drawability can be improved by applying variable blank holding force. To apply variable blank holding force during cup drawing, we set up cushion pressure control system on the hydraulic press, and the pressure control system is often called NC(Numerically Controlled) cushion system. A cushion pressure control experiment was carried out using the NC cushion and it was shown that the proposed system produced good performance. The comparison of drawability of square cups with and without NC cushion showed that the drawability could be greatly improved when S-shaped pressure curve was applied. This paper includes design details of the NC cushion system and experimental analysis of drawability with NC cushion system.

Experimental Determination of Friction Characteristics for Advanced High Strength Steel Sheets (초고강도강판 마찰특성의 실험적 규명)

  • The friction coefficients of advanced high strength steel sheets were experimentally determined. In the friction test, the pulling and holding forces acting on the sheet for various friction conditions, such as lubricant viscosity, pulling speed, blank holding pressure, sheet surface roughness, and hardness of the sheet were measured and the friction coefficient was calculated based on Coulomb's friction law. While the friction coefficient, generally, decreases as the value of friction factor increases, the factor associated with the sheet surface roughness shows U shape behavior for the friction coefficient. Furthermore, the relationship between friction coefficient and the wear volume, which was computed for the roughness of both sheet surfaces and the friction area, is linearly proportional.

  • In this study, the friction test was performed to find friction characteristics of advanced high strength steel (AHSS) sheets and the multiple regression method was employed to obtain friction models. The friction coefficients associated with the lubricant viscosity, drawing speed, and blank holding pressure are measured. Differently from GA steel sheets, the effects of the lubricant viscosity and pulling speed are a little, which are explained by a theory of adhesion and wear as well as a deformation of friction surface. In addition, the effects of friction parameters are numerically represented by friction regression models.

  • Sheet Metal Forming by Press Forming Process takes a lot of time and cost from mold design to manufacturing. Therefore, all of die-makers are continuously conducting research to reduce the number of mold processes or the size of blanks to reduce costs. In the case of Forming complex shapes such as automobile component, wrinkles and cracks occur, so draw beads are used. Draw beads play an important role in suppressing the inflow of materials and minimizing the size of blanks. Factors that affect material flow include draw bead, blank holding pressure, lubricant, and surface roughness of punch and die. Most of the factors affect friction. In this study, after classifying circular beads and rectangular beads in cylindrical drawing molds using the AutoForm analysis program, the factors affecting the material inflow were considered.

  • The springback characteristics of some sheet metals such as commercially pure aluminium, mild steel and stainless steel in a forming process are investigated experimentally. Three geometrical parameters for evaluating springback in the plane-strain draw-bending, which was a benchmark model of NUMISHEET '93 conference, are defined. The measurement of the springback parameters is carried out accurately and easily by using an image analysis system developed in this study. The effects of the blank holding pressure and tensile strength of the material on the springback are also examined.

A Study on the Behavior of Wrinkles in Square Cup Drawing (사각용기 성형시 주름의 거동에 관한 연구)

  • The wrinkling in the flange and wall of a part is a predominent failure mode in stamping of sheet metal parts. In many cases this wrinkling may be eliminated by appropriate control of the blank holding force(BHF), but BHF affects the draw depth. Although the wrinkles of flange have been made in the incipient stage of drawing, if the height of wrinkles is maintained under a prescribed limit by decrease or extinction of wrinkles in the course of drawing, small BHP can be allowed so that the depth of drawing could be increased. Authors research the variation of the wrinkles in flange in the course of square cup drawing by using aluminium A1015 and aluminium alloy A5052.

In many cases this wrinkling may be eliminated by appropriate control of the blank holding forco(BHF), but BHF affects the draw depth. Gotoh had studied the wrinkles under 0.02mm in height. In general, the height of wrinkles could be limited under 0.2mm practically. Therefore small BHP can be allowed so that the depth of drawing could be increased. Authors research the variation of the wrinkles in flange in the course of cup drawing by using aluminium alloy Al050 and A5052.
