The Study of the Development of Inertia Braking System for the Trailer and the Testing Evaluation (관성제동장치 장착 트레일러의 제동성능에 관한 연구)

  • Because the small trailers do not have the main brake system, it is difficult to gain the effective braking performance of the trailers while driving them. Especially it is very hard to brake them on the slope road condition. So we have technically developed Inertia Braking System for the military trailers which have not main braking system. Inertia Braking System is designed to be activated by the inertia force of trailer. It consists of the brake rod, damping cylinder, hand brake lever and brake cables. We have tested the trailer's braking performance. As a result, we have showed that the trailer's braking performance of the trailer equipped with Inertia Braking System, the road driving performance and the braking safety capability are improved dramatically. And we hope that it is rare to happen the accident while driving.

  • Since the braking system of rolling stock is directly linked to it's safety, ensuring reliability of braking system and evaluation of performance of it are very important. To develope the performance of braking system, it is required advanced technology and gradually various factors in the field test result This study is designed to analyze various factors about braking force in rolling stock, also, by comparing braking force of KTX with that of high speed train. The study suggests to establish a method of computation of braking force suitable for high speed train having a lot of trouble in calculating braking distance by diversification of patterns of braking system such as the train of speed up and introduction of electric and pneumatic braking system.

  • As railway trains run faster high performance braking system are necessary because more energy needs to be dissipated due to increased kinetic energy. In this work a portable computer based prediction system for emergency braking distance has been developed. The algorithm for the system is based on braking theory and empirical results of actual braking test. The computer is connected to the sensors to measure the velocity and the braking pressure in real train. It is expected that this system will be utilized to predict emergency braking distance during actual operation of the train

  • In this study, on-line measuring system were developed to verify performances and characteristics of electric braking system that is used in KTX(Korea Train eXpress) synthetically and efficiently Because KTX is commercial vehicle, effective measurement and evaluation of measuring signals were performed beyond the range of change for equipment components. KRRI(Korea Railroad Research Institute) described about running-braking measuring program, running-braking backup program and running-braking analysis program that were developed using a software called LabVIEW in this paper. Also, we analyzed the characteristics comparing experimental values with design values about braking distance, braking time, negative acceleration and braking effort in rheostatic braking and regenerative braking. In result, main performances and characteristics for electric braking system in KTX were verified.

  • Driving range is one of the main problems in development of Electric Vehicles(EV). The Regenerative. braking system is required to overcome the problem, which converts kinetic energy of the vehicle during braking into electrical energy. This paper discusses the braking system of EV and Robust design especially developed to maximize energy recovery and to optimize braking performance. This is promised to be applied to the design of elements for EV braking system.

  • This paper describes the dynamic modeling of a railway vehicle when it is under braking force. It is important for the enhancement of braking performance to establish a proper dynamic model of a railway vehicle because the braking performance is affected by some dynamic forces generated by a railway vehicle when it undergoes braking. In this paper, a dynamic model for one vehicle is suggested to compute the dynamic behavior of a railway vehicle in the HILS(Hardware In-the-loop Simulation) system for the railway vehicle braking devices. To simplify the dynamic model, friction between a wheel and a rail is assumed that there exist only the static and the dynamic friction forces. Static friction coefficient is also assumed to be a function of the running speed. Some simulations are carried out with various braking forces, and the braking characteristics according to the change of the braking force are discussed. This study can provide some fundamental results to construct the HILS system for braking devices of a railway vehicle.

  • This paper presents a new power flow method to analyze the AC electric railway system effectively in both cases of traction and regenerative braking of the trains. The algorithm to easily solve the power flow of the AC electric railway system with the trains of regenerative braking from the system without a train of regenerative braking is derived. Using this new power flow method, the voltage characteristics of a typical AC electric railway system is easily analyzed in both cases of traction and regenerative braking of the trains. We show that the presented method can be applied effectively in order to analyze the AT-fed AC electric railway system in both cases of traction and regenerative braking of the trains. A STATCOM(Static Synchronous Compensator) is applied to the system in order to improve the voltage drop problem and this case is also analyzed to show the effect of STATCOM.

  • The electric braking system obtains its braking force by a motor instead of the hydraulic brake which has been used in conventional automobile systems. Electric braking system is consisted of fewer numbers of components than hydraulic braking system, and it has effects of improved response and reduced braking distance for the ABS(Anti-lock Brake System) and ESC(Electronic Stability Control). This paper presents the BLAC motor drive system for Electro-Magnetic Brake(EMB). Proposed control system consists of the power converter for driving a motor and the digital control system for speed control, and the vector control is applied for fast torque response. It is verified through the simulation using Matlab/Simulink and experiment that the proposed BLAC drive system can be applied to EMB.
