The bibliographic records have been built up following the Digital Library System (DLS) cataloging rules in the school libraries. But it is hard to use DLS cataloging rule as the standardization guidelines in building up the bibliographic records in school libraries because it is not the detailed cataloging rules, has inconsistency in its own rules, and disagrees with KCR4 rules. Therefore, this study is to suggest the new amendment for DLS cataloging rule to improve the bibliographic records quality and to produce the standardized bibliographic records. To grasp the problems of the DLS cataloging rules, DLS cataloging rule was analyzed with KCR4 rule and the interviews were conducted to the 9 school librarian that have experienced over 3 years. The result showed that it was needed to correct the terms to accord with KCR4, and to amend the DLS rule in each area.

This study propose the union cataloging based on wiki cataloging method which guarantee the quality of imported bibliographic data by outsourcing. Wiki cataloging means to improves a quality of union catalog used the cooperation of librarians who have the knowledge and experience to the cataloging. The methods are 1) policy of wiki cataloging 2) development of wiki systems 3) establishment of wiki cataloging rule based on advanced librarian cooperation. Especially, advanced librarian take charge of an 245, 260, 300 fields as basic bibliographical elements, general librarians participate expanded fields.

This paper aims to improve the KCR and KORMARC for the cataloging electronic resources. In this study, therefore, at first the characteristics and kinds of electronic resources were examined as the backgrounds. Then the cataloging rules (AACR2R NCR1994, ISBD(ER) and KORMARC Descriptive Rule) and the MARC formats (MARC21, OCLC-MARC and KORMARC) were analyzed. Finally, the improvements of KCR and KORMARC for the cataloging electronic resources were suggested.

The purpose of this study is to study Bong Suk Park's thought and spirit in Korean Cataloging Rules for Oriental Books for illumination and revaluation of Bong Suk Park's library philosophy that was a pioneer of Korean library. The study examined a compilation backgrounds, configurations and characteristics of Korean Cataloging Rules for Oriental Books. A criticism of Korean Cataloging Rules for Oriental Books, creation and change process of Korean Cataloging Rules were examined. Though Bong Suk Park was worked from 1945 to 1950 for five years for Korean Library, he made a lot of contributions to Korean library. Based on this, the study examined the Rules, his thoughts and spirit in Korean Cataloging Rules for Oriental Books.

The Creation of bibliographic records for conference publication is difficult for catalogers and the records are difficult for patrons to use. We have found many difficulties in cataloging conference publications, because of the insufficiency and ambiguity of the cataloging rule. This study deals with the characteristics, type and data elements of conference publications, and the problems of the choice of heading and the creation of bibliographic records in the USMARC and KORMARC.

FRBR, as is new conceptual model of bibliography based on entity-relation model, direct to revision of AACR 3.JSC has progressed work to adopt FRBR conceptual model into cataloging rule, especially for solving the problem of expression level, propose to overall change of uniform title & GMD. The aims of this study are to investigate the influence of the newly developed cataloging rule, RDA on the LIS cataloging education and to propose Korean LIS cataloging curriculum in a time of RDA. This study specially intended to examine the coexistence of the AACR and RDA and its implications on the LIS cataloging curricula design in the limited time of the course of study. For this purpose, this study examined the rapidly changing cataloging circumstances and how it affects on the cataloging education in LIS. This study also explored the students' as well as instructors' opinion and demand on cataloging education specially regarding RDA. As a result, this paper designed a cataloging education model including RDA curriculum and it also suggested cataloging syllabus based on the education model.

The RAK has in general adopted the provisions of the paris principles to a far greater extent than many other cataloguing codes. And the analyses confirm that the determination of the main entries in German cataloging rules is a rather complex process and one which can result in inconsistent, arbitrary decisions. And the selection of the main entry requires a considerable amount of decision making which is time-consuming and costly. From the point of view of computers, all entries are equal as points of retrieval. In light of the above considerations the most important recommendation to be made is that the main entry principle be abandoned from cataloging theory and practice and be replaced by the title entry. It would eliminate the need for personal judgments required by the present rule. In so doing, it would bring uniformity and Standardization to cataloging practice. Use of the title entry would reduce the time and effort spent on the selection of the main entry which serves no important purpose in the catalog. Therefore title entry is more developed finding device than author entry in direct approach for document retrieval.

The purpose of this study is to investigate material designation in library cataloging and to suggest General Material Designation (GMD) and Specific Material Designation(SMD) in Korean. A summary of the study follows. In library cataloging, methods of indicating the type of material are : (1) color-coding, (2) media code as part of the call number, (3) material designation in physical description area or note area, (4) GMD and SMD. GMD is a term indicating the broad class of material to which a bibliographic item belongs. SMD is a term indicating the special class of material to which a bibliographic item belongs. GMD was listed in parenthesis following the title proper before AACR1975 code, but currently it is listed in square brackets after the AACR1975 code. AACR2 was the standard cataloging rule in GMD and SMD terminology. It is suggested that GMD be used in Korean for graphic material, sound recordings, drawings, microform, multimedia, videorecordings, manuscripts, photographs, slides, printed music, motion pictures, printed texts, objects, braille, cartographic materials, computer files and transparenies.

It was difficult for user to identify e-books due to some problems such as duplicable bibliographic records and inconsistent descriptive cataloging when cataloging the bibliographic records of the e-book packages in OPAC. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to find the applicable methods of the provider neutral e-book(e-monograph) MARC record guideline for the standardization of the bibliographic records of the provider supplied e-book package. Through the literature reviews and homepage analysis of 15 university libraries in domestic, the theoretical background on cataloging e-book, the descriptive cataloging of e-book, the provider-neutral e-monograph MARC record guideline as new standard for e-book, and the libraries practices of cataloging bibliographic records of the e-book package were inquired. Based on these analysis, it was to suggest applicable methods of provider neutral e-book(e-monograph) MARC record guideline for the standardization of the bibliographic records of domestic e-book packages in aspect of cataloging rule, KORMARC, and neutral bibliographic records. This study will contribute to build FRBRization of the e-books in OPAC as finding the guideline for the standardization of the bibliographic records of the e-book packages for both providers and libraries.
