Structure is one of the most important components in designing chairs, since a chair should support the weight of users and make them feel comfortable. However, previous studies have focused on examining the materials and the techniques of processing of chairs, but less on studying the structures to facilitate human friendly use enough to influence the change of the current chair design. The purpose of this study is to analyze the composition element in structure of the chair design specifically from 2000 to 2008 the fundamentals to achieve quality chair design. This study examined 386 chairs which the most reputable furniture fair, the Milan International Furniture Fair exhibited from 2000 to 2008. 386 chairs were chosen from 72 companies which passed the popularity and ranks. 24 Components of the structure of chairs were used to annalize the 386 chairs. The structural types of chair design included 51 kinds. Among them, the most representative types appeared to be 5 kinds. Particularly, the single structure chair was comprised of 25%, its productivity has increased steadily since 2004 which indicated that the structure of chair has become simplified. According to the components of chair, classified structure types were analyzed into (1) a single structure consisting of one component, (2) a simple structure with two components, (3) a complex structure with three components, and (4) a multiple structure with four components. The majority of chair types followed the order of the single structure, simple structure, complex structure, and multiple structure. The results of the analysis on the structure of chairs indicated that the structure of chairs has been changed toward single type No. 24 and simple type No. 6+13.

As life style changes, the demand for stacking chairs are increasing as the use of event halls or outside furniture where people gather in crowd is increasing. Early stacking chairs were mainly made to pile up a great amount and store, but in modern days it also has a decorative purpose. Besides, the development of various new materials and applied technology of furniture manufacture, the structure and design of stacking chair is becoming more interesting. Basically, according to the structure of the leg, the form and method of piling up is decided. The structure of the leg means the location of the leg connected to the seat, and according to the location, it can be piled up as upper, front, or rotational type. Such is the way how stacking chairs are classified according to the location of the leg, with its basis; the structure of stacking chair is reviewed. Now, chair for piling up is overcoming its simple function, which aesthetic beauty or arrangement of color after piling up is being considered. Also, according to storing, moving, and the place of use, various designs are demanded. As people's interest in stacking chair is increasing, various research regarding design should continue.

Hans Wegner, one of the legendary designers who led the 20th century Nordic modern design, is a representative furniture designer of Danish Modern. His beautiful proportions, elaborate structure, lightweight and simple chairs show the essence of Danish modernism for mass production. Designed and built over 500 chairs, he demonstrated the essence of chair design through a fully structured prototype. He shows his passion and craftsmanship as a designer through over 1000 designs. In addition, chair design shows the value of timeless design and is loved by modern times. Therefore, this study aims to study the characteristics of chair design by Hans Wegner and to help furniture design education by analyzing design, structure, function and material.

It is known that almost all cyclohexane molecules are chair form in liquid state. Therefore, only chair form is considered in formulating the partition function for liquid cyclohexane, according to the Transient State Theory of Significant Liquid Structure proposed by Pak, Ahn and Chang. The thermodynamic quantities such as molar volume, vapor pressure, entropy of vaporization and compressibility of the liquid are calculated. The results are in good agreement with experimental values.

This study analyzes the Western rocking chair style of the middle of the 20th century (1945~1970), and investigates academically characteristics from formative and practical points of view. The purpose of this study is to provide basic information on the design and production of the modern Korean rocking chair. In the 20th century, the production of the Western rocking chair displayed principles of both functionalism and optimism. These rocking chairs are constructed of various industrial materials including reinforced plastics, moulded plywood, aluminium, and steel as well as wood. Furthermore, a rocking chair suitable to the human body is made by industrial growth and innovative fabrication techniques such as designer's plastic from military in the First and Second World Wars. In those days, there are many different types of rocker style - traditional, plastics, structural, moulded plywood & bending, metal tubular, and wire mesh. More specifically, through economic prosperity and plastic development, the rocking chair is able to have light and bright colors, which shows sensible formality of the modern and structure.

A membrane type LNG cargo tank is equipped with a pump tower and a liquid dome for loading and unloading of LNG. However, the membrane running continuously on the tank wall to prevent leakage of LNG is interrupted by the liquid dome, hence care should be taken in the design of liquid dome and its substructures. In case of GTT NO96 membrane type cargo containment system, chair structure is arranged along the periphery of the liquid dome targeting to support the membrane which is exposed to the both hull girder and thermal load. This paper proposes a new and simple chair structure, which outperforms traditional design from productivity point of view maintaining same level of structural safety. Strength assessment on the new design was performed to guarantee the structural safety of the new design, which includes strength, fatigue and crack propagation analysis.

Interurban railway is expanded by transportation that population can be centralism and cope efficiently in traffic jam by augmentation of vehicles in the city. Railroad chair departs in space of an existent simple rest and products that can raise human body standard and size by powerful engineering vicinity, quality of the material, psychological satisfaction etc. of users are developed steadily. Specially, study of space that can use various materials efficiently with bodily size government official because various of man and woman old and the young etc.. are using in occasion of the train is urgently required. Specially, railroad chair is a product that material and standard, structure, human body engineering, a finish etc. is studied variously. In the case of advanced nation, in case of design a chair operating time of railroad, is placed as all standards orderly and harmonious because is considered exercise dynamics etc.. and designs. The other side, in the case of our country, study expert of chair is short real and is depending on technological data of overseas railway vehicle. Chair for railroad must consider removal of short-range, long distance. That have to be consider to a lot of uncomfortable such as psychological satisfaction of user because the domestic Motor Companies are defining in fair development study and many researchers but the railroad chair company are not accumulated professional manpower and technological know-how. Railway vehicle can recognize that overseas visitors as well as native is important element as space that space is exposed internationally by product that Public personality which used cultural value is strong. Therefore, wish to plan valid spec relationship presentation of various design and specification, function etc.. and contribute to railroad chair development design process lists and analyzes van instances of railway vehicle chair of inside and outside of the country through this study.

A thousands of chairs have designed from the Victorian era to the present. Thonet's Nol4 chair in 1859, Wright's high-back chair in 1904, Ritveld's red/blue chair in 1917, Breuer's Wassily chair in 1925, Aalto's Paimio chair in 1932, Eames's DAR chair in 1948, Piero Gatti's Sacco chair in 1969, Starck's Von Volgelsang chair in 1984, Stumpf's Aeron Chair in 1992, Little's 'Coat of arms' chair in 1994 - the list of architects who have seized the opportunity to express their theories in the design of a chair is seemingly endless. Architects such as Machintosh(1868-1928), Wright(1807-1959), Aalto(1898-1976) included chairs within their artistic schemes for interiors and buildings. But as the manufacture of chairs moved away from the domain of the craftsman towards that of the industrial process, architects were also ideally positioned, with their background knowledge of engineering, to pioneer innovative chair design within the constraints of modern manufacturing technology. Beyond matters of function and structure, the fundamental worth of chairs, past or present, lies in their communication of attitudes, ideas and values. The persuasiveness of a chair depend on the clarity of its rhetoric. Chair has become an ideal medium for designers to make their visual statements and construct their individual manifestos. In chair design there is a ping-pong game played out between absurd and useful design, and this game is one way in which the design profession explores itself.

A Study on the Characteristics of the Modern Chair Design The features of the modern chair design results from the diverse life style unfolded as per the 20th century social structure and the change of the residential space, and new design has been being developed by the scientists and the artists in various fields through their cooperated work in a way. The field of the scientific or technical study and creation of arts can be developed where they can evoke the sympathy in the circumstances under which the various styles of both arts and science meet across, complement crash together, and grow up. The operation which can control in the network of such pluralistic sphere has been needed for a long period and it has been facing the needs from a time and society. The engineering furniture as the counterplan of the above has brought the value of materials into relief to the forms of human life by making the properties of matter the maximum value or changing it. It can be summarized as following characteristics in its materials and forms along as well as the 3 types (handycrafty, mechanical, and ecological expression) in process through the 20th century. 1. Characteristics in Materials elasticity of the chair as per the changes of the flexibility in the steel pipe development of systematic chair using the plasticity of the plywood, plastic, and wire lightweight due to the materials such as aluminum. 2. Formative characteristics formative simplicity for the increase of the function and the quality improvement such as sociality, productivity, environmental and aesthetic nature emphasis on the structure as per the architectural environment and tecniques pursuit of the forms as a container of the human body seeking for the formative values as the cultural symbols coping with the needs from thepluralistic social structure Furniture is not the makeup for convenience sake but most importantexpression as necessaries of our environments. It should identify itself always as per these kind of needs and also it should be able to used to keep the relation of such mutual division, otherwise the purchase of new furniture should be necessary according to every change of the existing situatiov. Our residence doesn't need the specific style but expresses only the properties of the dwellers.

Chair is one of objects which are closely connected with human body and is a symbol which represents human essence and culture. Symbolism embodies the meaning of expression through transfering the immaterial structure to tangible form. Therefore chair embodies the essential internal desires of human by means of its symbolic representation. In order to understand the essential human desires included in the symbolism of chair it is necessary to consider these desires with respect to cultural and historical context. in this study four essential internal desires of human are investigated through the symbolic representation of chair that is the desires on human psychological comfort authority freedom and eroticism. The purpose of this study is to emphasize the necessity of the design approach based on the understanding of essential internal desires of human which is pursued from the object by user.
