  • Partial charge is an important and fundamental concept which can explain many aspects of chemistry. Since a molecule can be regarded as neclei surrounded by electron cloud, there is no way to define a partial charge accurately. Nevertheless, there have been many attempts to define these seemingly impossible parameters, since they would facilitate the understanding of molecular properties such as molecular dipole moment, solvation, hydrogen bonding, molecular spectroscopy, chemical reaction, etc. Common methods are based on the charge equalization, orbital occupancy, charge density, and electric multipole moments, and electrostatic potential fitting. Methods based on the charge equalization using electronegativity are very fast, and therefore they have been used to study many compounds. Methods to subdivide orbital occupancy using basis set conversion, relies on the notion that molecular orbitals are composed of atomic orbitals. The main idea is to reduce overlap integral between two nuclei using converted orthogonal basis sets. Using some quantum mechanical observables like electrostatic potential or charge multipole moments. Using potential grids obtained from wavefunction, partial charges can be fitted. these charges are most useful to describe intermolecular electrostatic interactions. Methods to using dipole moment and its derivatives, seems to be sensitive the level of theory, Dividing electron density using density gradient being the most rigorous theoretically among various schemes, bears best potential to describe the charge the most adequately in the future.

  • Electret filter media are used in general ventilation filters, disposable respirators, vehicle cabin filters, vacuum cleaners and room air cleaners. There are basic mechanisms of interception, inertial impaction, diffusion, gravitational settling, electrostatic attraction by which an aerosol particle can be deposited onto a fiber in a filter. The ability of fine particle removal strongly depends on the electrostatic forces between particles and polarized fibers. Thus, the stability of the fiber polarization is a major factor in the reliability of electret filters. In this study, electrical properties and filtration performance of electrospun filter media are quantitatively investigated. Electrical properties of electrospun filters have been studied on surface charge potential and surface charge density. Also the filtration performance of the electret filters are evaluated on collection efficiency. Electrospun filters show same collection efficiency with low pressure drop compare to commercialized HEPA filters. Surface charge potential and surface charge density of electrospun filters are increased with increasing applied voltage. Also collection efficiency of electrospun filters is increased with increasing surface charge potential and surface charge density.

  • $SiO_2$ via-hole etching with a high aspect ratio is a key process in fabricating ULSI devices; however, accumulated charge during plasma etching can cause etching stop, micro-loading effects, and charge build-up damage. To alleviate this concern, charge-up damage sensor was fabricated for the ultimate goal of real-time monitoring of accumulated charge. As an effort to reach the ultimate goal, fabricated sensor was used for electrical potential measurements of via holes between two poly-Si electrodes and roughly characterized under various plasma conditions using statistical design of experiment (DOE). The successful identification of potential difference under various plasma conditions not only supports the evidence of potential charge-up damage, but also leads the direction of future study.

In this study, the electret filter is made by electrospinning process using Polystyrene which is dissolved by 5 : 5 of Tetrahydrofuran (THF) and Dimethylformamide (DMF). Also the electrical properties and the filtration performances of electrospun filter media are Quantitatively investigated. Electrical properties of electrospun filters have been studied on surface charge potential and surface charge density. Also the filtration performance of the electret filters are evaluated on collection efficiency. The surface charge potential and the surface charge density of electrospun PS filters are increased with increasing applied voltage and saturated at 30 kV of applied voltage. Also collection efficiency of electro spun filters is increased with increasing surface charge potential and surface charge density. But the surface charge potential is decreased by natural decay and it causes deterioration of particle collection efficiency.

  • A new potential function based on spectroscopic results for diatomic molecules is presented and applied to the hydrogen bonding systems. The potential energy of interaction is supposed to have electrostatic, polarization, dispersion, repulsion and effective charge-transfer contributions. Estimates of the effective charge-transfer quantity have been made based on the average charge of the proton donor and the acceptor atoms. For dimers such as water, methanol, acetic acid and formic acid, the vibrational stretching frequencies and dimerization energies are calculated and dicussed in connection with Badger-Bauer rule.

  • The novel voltammetry using a semi-circular potential wave for quasi-reversible charge transfer system on electrode is theoretically investigated. Compared with conventional voltammetry based on linear sweep such as linear sweep voltammetry (LSV), semi-circular potential sweep voltammetry (SCV) may decrease the charging current outside the center of potential range and increase the faradaic current at the midpoint due to variable scan rate. In this paper, we investigate the system based on macroelectrode where simple 1 dimensional (1 D) diffusion system is valid with various charge transfer rate constant (k0). In order to observe the amplification at midpoint, voltammetric response with different midpoint ranging from -200 mV to 200 mV are studied. SCVs shows both the shift of peak potential and the amplification of peak current for quasi-reversible electrode reaction while only higher peak current is observed for reversible reaction. Moreover, the higher current at midpoint enable the amplification of current at low overpotential region which may assist the determination of onset potential as a figure-of-merit in electrocatalyst.

  • In this paper, we investigated the relationship between the needle electrode current and the needle electrode potential, The needle electrode potentials have influence on the needle electrode currents absolutely. So, to increase the needle electrode currents there is necessary to keep a high electric field if the charge reducer. for this, high insulation materials must be selected, and charge density of insulating oil must be high. In this experiment, the more a charge density of insulating oil increases, the more a needle electrode potential increases. So we could know what increasement of needle electrode potential increases a needle electrode current.

  • The electric charge generated by flowing insulation liquid can create hazardous spark in transfer line and receiving tank etc. These electrification has generally been measured by current measurement with a ammeter connected to the receiving tank. This paper reports on the experimental result obtained by this method. As a experimental results: The injected charge value for unit volume increased in the following condition, the edge of the needle electrode was sharp, the number of needle electrode was fewer, the edge of the needle electrode was located close to the inside wall. When the charge density in the charge reducer is constant, electrode current and electrode potential by the charge injection from outside increase with increasing of oil velocity and streaming current. The electrode potential in charge reducer is made maximum value at edge point of reducer inside and minimum value at center line of charge reducer.

  • This paper presents a methodology for the electric field analysis of substation. For the electric field analysis of substation, the electrodes(substation busbars) must be represented by finite line with nonlinear charge density. In the case of dividing finite line into uniform segments, a large number of variables have to be used to obtain the accuracy within a desired tolerance. To deal with the problem, nonuniform charge arrangement modeling method is suggested. To reduce potential calculation errors, the linear charge density function is considered particularly for the segment charge model ling. If the charge arrangement is improper, the accuracy not improved regardless of increment in the number of segments. This paper proposes an optimal charge arrangement method through potential error analysis. And, the optimal charge arrangement function is formulated by a lot of simulation results.

  • This work presents the way how to evaluate the degree of reversibility of the discharging process undergone by the nickel hydroxide film cathodically deposited on pure nickel as a positive electrode for electrochemical capacitor using the combined cyclic voltammetry and potential drop method, supplemented by galvanostatic discharge and open-circuit potential transient methods. The time interval necessary just to establish the current reversal of anodic to cathodic direction from the moment just after applying the potential inversion of anodic to cathodic direction, was obtained on cyclic voltammogram. The cathodic charge density passed upon dropping the applied potential, was calculated on potentiostatic current density-time curve. Both the time interval and the cathodic charge density in magnitude can be regarded as being measures of the degree of reversibility of the discharging process undergone by the positive active material for supercapacitor, i.e. , the longer the time interval is, the lower is the degree of reversibility and the greater the cathodic charge density is, the higher is the degree of reversibility. From the applied potential dependences of the time interval and cathodic charge density, discharge at $0.42 V_{SCE}$ was determined to be the most reversible.
