The purpose of this study was to compare the nutrient intakes and food lifestyles between double income families' children and full-time housewives' children. The subjects included 525 children ages 4 to 7 years old. The proportion of children receiving regular meals was 77.8%. One of the primary reasons for skipping breakfast was 'no appetite'(49.9%). In terms of food habit score 20.8% of the subjects belonged to the 'good' category and children from double income families had significantly higher scores than in full-time housewives' children(p<0.01). The first consideration for meal preparation was significantly different between the two types of families : for 44.3% of the children from it was double income families it was 'favorite', while for 42.8% of full-time housewives' children it was 'nutrition'(p<0.001). Mothers' attention to food for the health of their children was the primary reason in the response 'have regular meals each day'(90.6%). Vitamin C and fat intakes were significantly different between double income families' children and in full-time housewives' children(p<0.01, p<0.05). In conclusion, double income families' children have a lower frequency for eating breakfast and lower intakes of nutrients, such as Ca, P, K, vitamin A, vitamin $B_1$, $B_2$, and vitamin C than full-time housewives' ones.
The purpose of this study was to examine the interaction strategies used by typically developing boys and girls in their dealings with young children with ADHD in free play situations in inclusive classes. This was done in order to gain an in-depth understanding of the meaning of their interaction strategies. The subjects were 52 typically developing children (comprising 27 boys, 25 girls) and 3 young children with ADHD. The findings were as follows : First, the overall frequency of interaction strategies with the young children with ADHD was greater among the young female children (n = 372) than the young male children (n = 298). Second, when the utterance strategies of the male and female children were sub-categorized, both the male children (79.5%) and the female children (57.0%) mostly made use of avoidance strategies, one of the typical withdrawal strategies. Third, the interaction strategy of control represented 42.0 percent and as such was identified as the most prevalent interaction strategy utilized by the young male children studied. In the case of the young female children, obliging strategies were the most common interaction strategies representing 33.1 percent of the total used. In the light of the findings yielded from this study, some educational recommendations are provided.
This study examined how school-age children's peer acceptance and friendship experience were related to their psychosocial adjusment. Peer acceptance was examined in terms of sociometric status and social preference, and the friendship experience was examined in terms of the reciprocity of best friendship. The subjects were 275 children in the 4th or 5th grades. It was found that sociometric status and the reciprocity of best friendship were significant predictors of the level of loneliness that children experienced. Interaction between children's social preference score and the reciprocity of best friendship was also a significant predictor of the children's experience of loneliness. That is, the degree to which children are accepted by their peer group predicts the level of loneliness that children experience, but the strength of the prediction depends on whether the children have reciprocal best friends. Is for children's self-esteem in relation with sociometric status and the reciprocity of best friendship, only sociometric status was significant predictor of children's self-esteem. However, interaction between social preference and the reciprocity of best friendship was a significant predictor of children's self-esteem. This finding suggests that the degree to which children are accepted by their peer group predicts the level of children's self-esteem, and the strength of the prediction depends on whether the children have reciprocal best friends.
Objectives The purpose of this study was to find out the relationship between developmental disabilities and oriental medicine using diagnostic procedure based on the symptoms of weak children. This study was to investigate the relationships between stress coping strategies, emotion regulation ability and behavior problems with children from low-income families and middle-income families. Subjects were 171 children from low-income families and 228 children from middle-income families, 4th - 6th grade in elementary school. The major findings are followings: (1) The level of emotion regulation ability in children from low-income families was lower and active stress coping strategies were less than children from middle-income families. In the behavior problem, children from low-income families were higher than children from middle-income families. (2) The stress coping strategies(active/ social support) in children from low-income families were related with internal behavior problem(anxiety /withdrawal). And the emotion regulation ability was related to the children's behavior problem. (3) Regression analysis model showed that emotion-regulation ability was the most influential factor to the children's behavior problem, and children from low-income families with aggressive coping strategy showed hyperactive behavior problem. So, the education/therapy programs for children from low-income families have to be developed and practiced in schools, local children centers and so on.

A total of 135 children of general and multicultural families from 3th to 6th grades and their 11 teachers were surveyed, and 75 multicultural family children underwent a cooking activity program. Children of multicultural families showed higher participation in cooking activities than other Korean children. Children of multicultural families wanted to be involved in cooking activity programs after school more than other Korean children. These children also showed a higher rate of wanting to cook Korean foods compared to children of general families. Regarding reasons for participating in cooking activities, 'I think I'm glad to be served delicious food' response was the most common. Children of multicultural families showed higher participation in cooking activities than children of general families. Regarding school life changes, children of multicultural families were found to be less picky of foods in general as well as kimchi and vegetables. It is well-known fact that woodworking activity could contribute in enhancing creativity, scientific problem-solving ability, spatial perception ability and prosocial behavior of children. However, there is little chance that children experience woodworking at home or in kindergarten. This study was conducted to know how much children and adults have done woodworking in there daily life and how they perceived children's woodworking activity. Woodworking activities for children (N=207, 5 and 6 year old kids) with adults (N=271, only fathers) were carried out in 10 kindergartens of Cheongju. Actually, the survey result shows that very few children and adults experienced woodworking in their daily life. 62.8% of children and 34.3% of adults surveyed responded that they had never done woodworking. However, the greater part of children and adults evaluated the woodworking activity positively. Over 95% of children surveyed responded that their woodworking activity was fun and they want to play woodworking again. Over 73% of adults surveyed responded that children's woodworking activity was safe, and over 99% of adults surveyed responded that they can recommend children's woodworking activity to others. In conclusion, the development of safe tools and programs for children's woodworking activity helps its spread and activation.
The purposes of this study were to examine: (1) the extent to which school-age children used computer games; (2) whether there were differences between children who played computer games to a greater extent and children who played computer games to a normal extent in their levels of depression, anxiety, self-esteem, and social anxiety; and (3) whether children's social withdrawal, aggression, and mothers' psychological control explained the extent of children's computer game playing. The subject were 270 children in the 6th grade. It was found that $55.6\%$ of the children were normal users, $39.3\%$ of the children were somewhat heavy users, and $5.2\%$ of the children were heavy users of computer games. There was a gender difference in the proportions of heavy computer game playing. That is, there were more heavy users among boys than among girls. It was also found that social withdrawal, aggression, and mothers' psychological control were significant predictors of the extent of children's computer game playing. That is, the levels of children's social withdrawal, aggression, and their perceptions of mothers' psychological control predicted the degree to which children played computer games.
This study examined the relationships between children's perceptions of mothers' psychological control, and children's behavior problems(depression, anxiety, withdrawal, and aggression). In order to expand the study on the relationships, special attention was given to the possible moderator effects of children's sex and peer acceptance on the relationships. The subjects were 272 6th graders residing in Seoul. It was found that children's perceptions of mothers' psychological control was significantly related with the levels of children's depression, anxiety, withdrawal, and aggression. The results indicated that mothers' higher psychological control was related to higher levels of children's depression, anxiety, withdrawal, and aggression. No significant sex difference was found in the relationship between children's perceptions of mothers' psychological control and children's behavior problems although all of the correlations between mothers' psychological control and each of the behavior problem variables were somewhat higher among boys than among girls. Children's perceptions of peer acceptance were found to be a significant moderator of the relationship between mothers' psychological control and children's depression, and of the relationship between mothers' psychological control and children's aggression. These findings indicated that peer acceptance could function as a protecting factor for children who perceive their mothers to be psychologically controlling.
With the advent of industrial society, the phenomenon of nuclear families has brought many changes in the family environment. Of changes, a decrease in the number of new-born babies led to one-child families, which then led to an increase in interest in children. Interest in children gave birth to a consumptive trend called "kids marketing," and phenomena of generous investment and consumption for children appear to continue to the future. In reality, too, the consumer market of children's apparel and learning materials for children has sharply increased over the past few years, and products related to children have become the center of family consumptions. Therefore, at this point when children are the center of consumptive life in the family and the relationship between products and users is becoming an increasingly more important variable, the conductive research focusing on children is necessary. These important factors embraced wide areas of activities in research on children, from children's physical changes, children's preference, such as color and material, to children's consumptive environment, as they can provide a foundation for furniture design suitable for children.
