  • In this paper, we designed and implemented a web-based dictionary of computing which keeps the data up-to-date. This dictionary shows the English information based on the FOLDOC (Free On-Line Dictionary Of Computing) dictionary file at the beginning of searching, and then one or more users can translate the information into Korean. This function is the new one only this dictionary has. Also, we can easily find any words we want to took up, even if we don't know the spelling completely, because the dictionary has various searching interfaces (searching for the words starting with inputted characters, searching for the words including inputted characters in the description, etc.) using a SQL Server DBMS and SQL. The performance test for CPU load factor shows that the server can support at least 1780 users at the same time.

  • Data dictionary is a collection of meta-data, which describes data produced and consumed while performing business processes. Data dictionary is an essential element for business process standardization and automation, and has a fundamental role in ERP application management and customization. Also, data dictionary facilitates B2B processes by enabling painless integration of business processes between various enterprises. We implemented data dictionary support in SEA+, a component- based scalable ERP system developed in ETRI, and found out that it's a plausible feature of business information system. We discovered that data dictionary promotes semantic, not syntactic, data management, which can make it possible to leverage viability of the tool in the coming age of more meta-data oriented computing world. We envision that business data dictionary is a firm foundation of adapting business knowledge, applications and processes into the semantic web based enterprise infra-structure.

  • A three-party password-based authenticated key exchange (PAKE) protocol allows two clients registered with a trusted server to generate a common cryptographic key from their individual passwords shared only with the server. A key requirement for three-party PAKE protocols is to prevent an adversary from mounting a dictionary attack. This requirement must be met even when the adversary is a malicious (registered) client who can set up normal protocol sessions with other clients. This work revisits three existing three-party PAKE protocols, namely, Guo et al.'s (2008) protocol, Huang's (2009) protocol, and Lee and Hwang's (2010) protocol, and demonstrates that these protocols are not secure against offline and/or (undetectable) online dictionary attacks in the presence of a malicious client. The offline dictionary attack we present against Guo et al.'s protocol also applies to other similar protocols including Lee and Hwang's protocol. We conclude with some suggestions on how to design a three-party PAKE protocol that is resistant against dictionary attacks.

  • This paper proposes a software tool MADE that is useful to develop a practical Korean morphological analyzer. A morphological analysis is performed by using adjacency conditions provided by a morphological dictionary. This means that developing a morphological analyzer is reduced merely to constructing a morphological dictionary. No programming skill is required in this process, MADE provides with useful functions that facilitate the construction of a dictionary. Once a dictionary is constructed, the morphological analysis engine embedded in MADE may be used as a stand-alone morphological analyzer or be integrated into an application software which requires a Korean morphological analysis module.

  • Intelligent video surveillance systems have been developed to monitor global areas and find specific target objects using a large-scale database. However, person re-identification presents some challenges, such as pose change and occlusions. To solve the problems, this paper presents an improved person re-identification method using sparse representation and saliency-based dictionary construction. The proposed method consists of three parts: i) feature description based on salient colors and textures for dictionary elements, ii) orthogonal atom selection using cosine similarity to deal with pose and viewpoint change, and iii) measurement of reconstruction error to rank the gallery corresponding a probe object. The proposed method provides good performance, since robust descriptors used as a dictionary atom are generated by weighting some salient features, and dictionary atoms are selected by reducing excessive redundancy causing low accuracy. Therefore, the proposed method can be applied in a large scale-database surveillance system to search for a specific object.

  • The Sejong Electronic(machine readable) Dictionary, which was developed by the 21 century Sejong Plan, contains a systematic of immanence information of Korean words. It helps in solving the problem of electronical presentation of a general text dictionary commonly used. Word sense disambiguation problems can also be solved using the specific information available in the Sejong Electronic Dictionary. However, the Sejong Electronic Dictionary has a limitation of suggesting structure of sentences and selection-restricted nouns. In this paper, we discuss limitations of word sense disambiguation by using subcategorization information as suggested by the Sejong Electronic Dictionary and generalize selection-restricted noun of argument using Korean Lexico-semantic network.

  • The Sejong Electronic(machine-readable) Dictionary, developed by the 21st century Sejong Plan, contains systematically organized information on Korean words. It helps to solve problems encountered in the electronic formatting of the still-commonly-used hard-copy dictionary. The Sejong Electronic Dictionary, however has a limitation relate to sentence structure and selection-restricted nouns. This paper discuses the limitations of word-sense disambiguation(WSD) that uses subcategorization information suggested by the Sejong Electronic Dictionary and generalized selection-restricted nouns from the Korean Lexico-semantic network. An alternative method that utilized semi-supervised learning, the chi-square test and some other means to make WSD decisions is presented herein.

  • On movie review sites, movie ratings are determined by netizens' subjective judgement. This means that inconsistency between ratings and opinions from netizens often occurs. To solve this problem, this paper proposes sentiment sentence sets which affect movie evaluation, and apply sets to comments to infer ratings. Creation of sentiment sentence sets is consisted of two stages, construction of sentiment word dictionary and creation of sentiment sentences for sentiment estimation. Sentiment word dictionary contains sentimental words and its polarities included in reviews. Elements of sentiment sentences are combined with movie related noun and predicate from words sentiment word dictionary. In this study, to make correspondence between polarity of sentiment sentence and sentiment word dictionary, sentiment sentences which have different polarity with sentiment word dictionary are removed. The scores of comments are calculated by applying averages of sentiment sentences elements. The result of experiment shows that sentence scores from sentiment sentence sets are closer to reflect real opinion of comments than ratings by netizens'.
