Fast Congestion Control to Transmit Bursty Traffic Rapidly in Satellite Random Access Channel (위성 랜덤 액세스 채널에서 Bursty 트래픽의 신속한 전송을 위한 빠른 혼잡 제어 기법)

  • In this paper, we propose a traffic load control scheme, called fast congestion control (FCC), for a satellite channel using enhanced random access schemes. The packet repetition used by enhanced random access schemes increases not only the maximum throughput but also the sensitivity to traffic load. FCC controls traffic load by using an access probability, and estimates backlogged traffic load. If the backlogged traffic load exceeds the traffic load corresponding to the maximum throughput, FCC recognizes congestion state, and processes the backlogged traffic first. The new traffic created during the congestion state accesses the channel after the end of congestion state. During the congestion state, FCC guarantees fast transmission of the backlogged traffic. Therefore, FCC is very suitable for the military traffic which has to be transmit urgently. We simulate FCC and other traffic load control schemes, and validate the superiority of FCC in latency.

A ENA algorithm for Performance Enhancement of Satellite Link using TCP (TCP를 사용하는 위성링크에서의 성능 향상을 위한 ENA 알고리즘)

  • In this paper, We report on the performance issues faced by TCP based applications on satellite link having long propagation delay and high probability of bit erros and propose ENA(Error Notification Ack) algorithm for TCP Performance Enhancement. TCP Protocol cannot distinguish errored segments(in noisy medium) from losses of genuine network congestion and react as if there is network congestion. Therefore, Slow Start and Congestion avoidance mechanism are initiated. It happen this case in satellite link. Therefore it reduce the transmission rate and drop the performance. So, in this paper We propose ENA algorithm which is distinguished errored segments from losses of network congestion. And We propose the method of algorithm's implementation. And We evaluate the Performance of Tahoe, Reno, Sack TCP with ENA. As results, TCP Performance is better.

  • This paper reports a new mechanism for congestion controls. The proposed congestion detection algorithm can be provided with delay and unnecessary energy consumption. Conventional congestion control methods decide congestion by queue occupancy or mean packet arrival rate of MAC layer only, however, our method can perform precise detection by considering queue occupancy and mean packet arrival rate. In addition, the congestion avoiding method according to congestion degree and scheduling method using priority for real time packets are proposed. Finally, simulation results show that proposed congestion detection and control methods outperforms conventional scheduling schemes for wireless sensor network.

  • In wireless sensor networks, due to the many-to-one convergence of upstream traffic, congestion more probably appears. Network congestion can be alleviated by controlling incoming traffic, but using traffic control can violate fidelity level required by applications. In this paper, we propose multipath-based congestion control scheme alleviating congestion by resource control for wireless sensor networks. When congestion occurs, the multipath-based congestion control scheme distributes network traffic through multiple alternate paths, and consequently, the scheme enables to detour in the congested spot and increase resource utilization. Our results show that our multipath-based congestion control scheme can satisfy fidelity level required by applications and alleviate congestion effectively.

  • This paper discusses a scheme of the congestion management in the Korea electricity market under the deregulated environment. We investigated some cases of the congestion management in the world and the effects of the congestion management in a simple example. A basic idea of the congestion management in the Korea is presented based on the analysis of transmission congestion management in the competitive electricity market.

  • Unbalance between user requirements and insufficient network resources makes a congestion. In the future since the communication networks will have very heavy traffic congestion will be more serious. The ATM networks was recommended to support the B-ISDN service for the future multimedia communication. In thie sense of congestion avoidance and recovery the ABR service category in ATM networks allows the feedback flow control mechanism to dynamically allocate the idle bandwidth of the network to users fairly and to control the network congestion rapidly In this paper we introduce a congestion control scheme using systematical approach to confirm robust stability with respect to unknown round trip delay for the network which has both unicast and multicast connections.

  • Wireless Sensor Networks hold the limelight because of significant potential for distributed sensing of large geographical areas. The radio duty cycling mechanism that turns off the radio periodically is necessary for the energy conservation, but it deteriorates the network congestion when the traffic load is high, which increases the packet loss and the delay too. Although many papers for WSNs have tried to mitigate network congestion, none of them has mentioned the congestion problem caused by the radio duty cycling of MAC protocols. In this paper, we present a simple and efficient congestion control technique that operates on the radio duty cycling MAC protocol. It detects the congestion by checking the current queue size. If it detects the congestion, it extends the network capacity by adding supplementary wakeup times. Simulation results show that our proposed scheme highly reduces the packet loss and the delay.

  • As the demand on the multimedia application increases, the congestion control algorithm for the multimedia applications becomes an important research issue. The ultimate goal of congestion control is to adapt the trans-mission rate at the sender to the mont of network resource available on the forward path. In general, the congestion control algorithms use the round trip time(RTT) to estimate the network congestion on the forward path. however, since the RTT includes the delay on both forward and backward paths, it is possible for the algorithms using the RTT to make a wrong decision such as deciding the congestion on the forward path due to the congestion built on the backward path. In this paper, we enhance the performance of RRC-OTT(Receiver-based rate control with one-way Trip Time) algorithm, which uses the one-way trip time(OTT) to estimate the network congestion. By separating the estimation mechanism on the forward path from the backward path, the performance of RRC-OTT algorithm is hardly affected by the congestion built on the backward path.

Improving the Estimation Method of Traffic Congestion Costs (교통혼잡비용 추정방법의 개선방안 연구)

  • Recently, there has been increasing demand from academic society in Korea for the improvement of current traffic congestion cost estimation methods. The purpose of this study is to suggest a better way to estimate congestion cost followed by in-depth review regarding traffic congestion. The key improvements proposed in this study include: 1) adding social externality to congestion cost, 2) integrating the green house and environmental pollution impacts with congestion costs, 3) taking non-recurrent traffic congestion costs into account for the assessment, 4) revising the criteria to determining the level of traffic congestion speed, and 5) deciding how to limit congestion measurement period. It is found meaningful that the improvements, notwithstanding difficulties in their real case application, provide invaluable insights in our efforts to change the meaning of congestion cost in an era of sustainable growth.
