Objectives : This study is to investigate the clinical application of conservative oriental medical treatment to a patient who were diagnosed as 'Sequestrated disc' on MRI. Methods: We evaluated 5 patients. who were diagnosed as 'Sequestrated disc' on MRI. after conservative oriental medical treatment by Numeric Rating Scale(NRS), Straight Leg Rasing Test(SLRT) and MRI follow-up. Result: 5 patients showed significant improvement in Numeric Rating Scale(NRS). Straight Leg Rasing Test(SLRT) after conservative oriental medical treatment. Also their sequestrated disc were significantly dissapeared or decreased in volume on MRI after the treatment. Conclusion: Conservative oriental medical treatment can be effective for improving pain and volume of herniated disc for patients with sequestrated disc.

Idiopathic scoliosis is a complex three-dimensional deformity of the spine. There is two ways in treatment of scoliosis, normally. In order to prevent a progressive course of the disorder, conservative treatment is started in selected patients. And sometimes, operation is performed to severe patients. But, application standard is vague. So We reviewed the latest medical theses. English language articles in Medline database between 2003 and 2005. 8. 31. were reviewed. The searching words was Idiopathic scoliosis, conservative treatment, brace. exercise. We classified 27 articles. The results of this research demonstrate that conservative treatment is more effective than observation until operation.

Objectives : This study is to investigate the clinical application of conservative treatment to a patient who has the paresthesia and migration on L-spine MRI. Methods : A male patient, 34 years old, who has paresthesia and migration on L-spine MRI was evaluated after conservative oriental medical and chuna treatment by Visual Analog Scale(VAS), Numeric Rating Scale(NRS), Straight Leg Rasing Test(SLRT), Sensation, MRI follow-up. Results : 1. Visual Analog Scale(VAS), Numeric Rating Scale(NRS), Straight Leg Rasing Test(SLRT), Sense was significantly improved after conservative oriental medical and chuna treatment. 2. Also it was observed that herniated disc was decreased by L-spine MRI follow-up. Conclusions : Conservative oriental medical and chuna treatment can be effective for decreasing pain and improving paresthesia, also decreasing the volume of herniated disc.

This study is designed to evaluate the effect of conservative oriental medical treatment with Kyungkuen Chuna for Herniated intervertebral lumber disc(HIVD) patient. The improvement of the patient was evaluated by Range of Motion(ROM), Straight Leg Rasing Test(SLRT), Visual Analogue Scale(VAS), Oswestry Low-back Pain Disability Index(ODI). After conservative oriental medical treatment with Kyungkuen Chuna, ROM, SLRT, VAS and ODI were significantly improved. It is suggested that Conservative oriental medical treatment with Kyungkuen Chuna could be effective methods to treat the HIVD patient.

Objectives : The purpose of this study was to evaluate the oriental conservative treatment for FBSS patient who were diagnosed as the Cauda equina syndrome. Methods : The patient were treated by the oriental medical conservative treatment including herbal medication, dry needle acupuncture, direct moxibustion and indirect moxibustion, cupping therapy and, physical therapy. We estimated by Visual Analog Scale and Oswestry disability index for evaluate the effect of Oriental conservative treatment. Results : After treatment, patient's visual analogue scale score and Oswestry disability index score were generally decreased. Conclusions : The oriental medical conservative treatment might be an effective method to treat the FBSS patient who were diagnosed as the Cauda equina syndrome.

Methods : We examined 1 patient with lumbar burst fracture who admitted Jaseng Hospital of Oriental Medicine. Results : In this study, the patient showed a certain degree of improvement in gait disturbance. Low back and leg pain were also reduced significantly after conservative oriental medical treatment. Conclusions : Conservative oriental medical treatment can be effective for improving symptoms of Lumbar incomplete burst fracture, decreasing pain.

Objectives: The propose of this study is to find out the clinical application of conservative treatment to 3 patients who has Disc Extrusion on L-spine MRI Methods: We examined 3 patients with Lumbar Intervertebral Disc Herniation (HIVD of L-spine) with Disc Extrusion who showed changes on MRI images before/after the treatment among HIVD of L-spine patients who visited Jaseng Hospital of Oriental Medicine. Results: In this study, the first MRI examination of HIVD of L-spine patients was performed at the first visit and re-examination of MRI was done after the treatment. In each case, the size of the extruded disc was considerably reduced in MRI image. Low back and leg pain was also reduced significantly after conervative oriental medical treatment. Conclusions: Conservative oriental medical treatment can be effective for improving symptoms of HIVD, decreasing pain, also decreasing the volume of herniated disc.

The object of this study is to report a clinical effect regarding the conservative treatment of the patients who were diagnosed as the herniated intervertebral lumbar disc(HIVD). The patients were treated by the oriental medical conservative treatment including acupunture, Bee venom therapy and Chu-na therapy. We estimated by visual analogue scale and pain rating score subjectively. And we examined the patients with SLR test and valsalva test. Oriental medical conservative treatment improved HIVD subjuctively and objectively.

The purpose of this study is to know recent studies about conservative treatment of osteoarthritis in knee joint. We reviewed and analyzed 71 theses published by korean research institution since 2000. These theses were classified by year, field of study and subject. The results of this study are as follows. 1. We found 24 oriental medical theses about osteoarthritis in knee joint since 2000. 2. Classified by the major field of study, the journal of korea acupuncture and moxibustion society accounted for 17 pieces in oriental medical journals. 3. In oriental medicine, the most subject is acupuncture(19 pieces). 13 pieces in it is about pharmacopuncture. 4. 47 theses are published in medical journals after 2000. 5. 35 associations dealt with this theme, the korean society of physical medicine is major. 6. Most subject is kinesitherapy, followed by pharmacotherapy, massotherapy, taping therapy, physiotherapy and insole. We found several therapies were effective through oriental and western medical theses. Combined oriental medicine and western conservative therapy like kinesitherapy make better effect on osteroarthritis of knee joint.

Ileus is blockage of the intestine that prevents the contents of the intestine from passing to the lower bowel. In western medical treatment, surgery is mandatory for severe cases such as strangulation ileus. However more generally, conservative management is used for treatment. Examples of conservative management are decompression with tube, fluid treatment, enema and fasting cure. Until now, many oriental medical studies have been conducted on chronic ileus, but almost none on acute ileus. The results for the case in this report suggest that oriental medical treatment such as acupuncture, moxibustion, herbal medicine is effective in treating acute ileus. We think that further studies should be conducted on a combination therapy with other oriental medical treatment such as retention enema.
