  • Low earth orbit (LEO) satellite broadband network is a crucial part of the space information network. LEO satellite constellation design is a top-level design, which plays a decisive role in the overall performance of the LEO satellite network. However, the existing works on constellation design mainly focus on the coverage criterion and rarely take network performance into the design process. In this article, we develop a unified framework for constellation optimization design in LEO satellite broadband networks. Several design criteria including network performance and coverage capability are combined into the design process. Firstly, the quality of service (QoS) metrics is presented to evaluate the performance of the LEO satellite broadband network. Also, we propose a network stability model for the rapid change of the satellite network topology. Besides, a mathematical model of constellation optimization design is formulated by considering the network cost-efficiency and stability. Then, an optimization algorithm based on non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm-II (NSGA-II) is provided for the problem of constellation design. Finally, the proposed method is further evaluated through numerical simulations. Simulation results validate the proposed method and show that it is an efficient and effective approach for solving the problem of constellation design in LEO satellite broadband networks.

  • We demonstrate rotationally invariant space-time (ST) trellis codes with a 4-D rectangular signal constellation for data transmission over fading channels using two transmit antennas. The rotational invariance is a good property to have that may alleviate the task of the carrier phase tracking circuit in the receiver. The transmitted data stream is segmented into eight bit blocks and quadrature amplitude modulated using a 256 point 4-D signal constellation whose 2-D constituent constellation is a 16 point square constellation doubly partitioned. The 4-D signal constellation is simply the Cartesian product of the 2-D signal constellation with it-self and has 32 subsets. The partition is performed on one side into four subsets A, B, C, and D with increased minimum-squared Euclidian distance, and on the other side into four rings, where each ring includes four points of equal energy. We propose both linear and nonlinear ST trellis codes and perform simulations using an appropriate multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) channel model. The 4-D ST codes constructed here demonstrate about the same frame error rate (FER) performance as their 2-D counterparts, having however the added value of rotational invariance.

  • Space based constellation network is a kind of ad hoc network in which users are self-organized without center node. In space based constellation network, users are allowed to enter or leave the network at any given time. Thus, the number of active users is an unknown and time-varying parameter, and the performance of the network depends on how accurately this parameter is estimated. The so-called problem of active user identification, which consists of determining the number and identities of users transmitting in space based constellation network is discussed and a novel active user identification method is proposed in this paper. Active user identification code generated by transmitter address code and receiver address code is used to spread spectrum. Subspace-based method is used to process received signal and judgment model is established to identify active users according to the processing results. The proposed method is simulated under AWGN channel, Rician channel and Rayleigh channel respectively. Numerical results indicate that the proposed method obtains at least 1.16dB Eb/N0 gains compared with reference methods when miss alarm rate reaches 10-3.

  • With the explosion of bioinformatics data such proteins and genes, biologists need a integrated system to analyze and organize large datasets that interact with heterogeneous types of biological data. In this paper, we propose a integration system based on a mediated data warehouse architecture using a XML model in order to combine protein related data at biology laboratories. A fact constellation model in this system is used at a common model for integration and an integrated schema it translated to a XML schema. In addition, to track source changes and provenance of data in an integrated database employ incremental update and management of sequence version. This paper shows modeling of integration for protein structures, sequences and classification of structures using the proposed system.

  • In this paper, blind equalization technique using Gaussian two-cluster model is proposed. The proposed approach, by modeling the received M-QAM signals as Gaussian distributed two-cluster, minimizes the computational complexity and enhances the reliability of the signal estimates. In addition, by using a nonlinear estimator with variable parameters to estimate the transmitted signal, and by selectively applying the reduced constellation and the original constellation when estimating the signals, the reliability of the signal estimation was further improved. As a result, the proposed approach has improved the performance while reducing the complexity of the equalizer. Through computer simulations for blind equalization of higher-order signals of 64-QAM, it was confirmed that the proposed method showed better performance than traditional approaches.

  • In this paper, a system model for transmission of 3-dimensional (3-D) signals is presented and its performance is analyzed. Unlike 2-D signals, no quadrature form expression for the 3-D signals is available. Exploiting a set of orthogonal basis functions, the 3-D signals are transmitted. As a result of computer simulation using very higher-level signal constellations, the 3-D transmission system has significantly improved error performance as compared with the 2-D system. It is considered that the principal reason for such performance improvement is much increased minimum Euclidean distance (MED) of the 3-D lattice constellations compared with the corresponding 2-D ones. When the MEDs of 2-D and 3-D lattice constellation are compared to confirm the analysis, the MED of 3-D 1024-ary constellation is around 2.6 times larger than that of the quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM). Expanding the constellation size to 4096, the MED of 3-D lattice constellation is increased by 3.2 times of the QAM.

  • In the recent era of NewSpace, unlike high-reliability satellites of the past, low-reliability satellites are being developed and mass-produced at a lower cost to launch constellations satellites. To achieve cost-effective cluster satellite development, satellite users and developers need to assess the feasibility of maintaining mission performance over the expected lifespan when cluster satellites are launched. Plans for replacements due to random failures should also be established to maintain performance. This study proposed a method for assessing system reliability and availability to maintain mission performance and establish replacement strategies for Earth observation constellation satellites. In this study, a constellation reliability and availability model considering mission performance required for a satellite constellation, situations of satellite backup, and additional ground backups was established. The reliability model was structured based on the concept of a k-out-of-n system and the availability model used a Markov chain model. Based on the proposed reliability model, the minimum number of satellites required to meet mission requirements was defined and satellites needed in orbit during the required mission period to satisfy mission reliability were calculated. This research also analyzed the number of spare satellites in orbit and on the ground required to meet the desired availability during required service period through availability analysis.

  • This research proposes the best combination of tropospheric delay models for Korean Positioning System (KPS). The overall results are based on real observation data of Japanese Quasi-Zenith satellite system (QZSS), whose constellation is similar to the proposed constellation of KPS. The tropospheric delay models are constructed as the combinations of three types of zenith path delay (ZPD) models and four types of mapping functions (MFs). Two sets of International GNSS Service (IGS) stations with the same receiver are considered. Comparison of observation residuals reveals that the ZPD models are more influential to the measurement model rather than MFs, and that the best tropospheric delay model is the combination of GPT3 with 5 degrees grid and Vienna Mapping Function 1 (VMF1). While the bias of observation residual depends on the receivers, it still remains to be further analyzed.

  • The idea of designing LEO's satellite constellations has become very important for internet access. Several LEO satellite constellations have been designed and used for global communications. In this paper, by examining three LEO satellite constellations, namely SpaceX's 4425 satellites Ku-Kaband system, OneWeb's 720 satellites Ku-Ka-band system, Telesat's 117 satellites Ka-band system. And evaluating the power of data transmission and their telecommunications, we come close to a conceptual design area. First with the mathematical modeling and formulation and the design of inter-orbital communications for satellites, inter-satellite communications, inter-orbital communications, we get a complete design based on the genetic algorithm for LEO satellite constellation design. And then, using simulations and design software, the final results of the designed model are obtained. Finally, we compare the results of the designed model with other existing LEO satellite constellations.

  • The paper shows that Uganda lacks an adequate institutional framework to achieve agriculture modernization. Based on constellation model, the paper proposes an effective way to promote agricultural development through policy and institutional partnerships at various levels of governance and action by various stakeholders in the sector. From this theoretical perspective, the paper raises salient research questions: Why is Abim District an important focus for Agricultural development? What is the effect of institutional arrangements and partnerships in agriculture development in Abim District? What forms of institutional partnerships and collaboration framework can effectively address the challenge in the District and Northern Uganda as a whole? These concerns are important obstacles to improved agricultural performance in Uganda as dysfunctional institutional arrangements and norms are majorconstraints to agricultural development. The findings demonstrate that institutional gaps, bureaucracy, institutional proliferation and overlapping roles have derailed agriculture modernization. Hence, the development strategy proposes creating and rejuvenating all essential players operating in the region, developing or deepening their inter-linkages through judicious and sustainable partnerships with all the principal players in Abim District.
