Database for Construction Materials Management System Based on RFID (RFID 기반의 건축 자재 관리 시스템을 위한 데이터베이스)

  • The efficient materials management in construction field is a very important work required for designing and demolishing building. As the waste amount caused by the building demolition is increased, the concern related to the treatment method, recyclability, and effect on the environment have been gradually increased. In general, the conventional databases for the construction materials management does not consider the reuse of the construction materials on steps for the building demolition and reconstruction, but they only consider managing the type and input amount of them. In this paper, we propose the database system for efficiently managing the various construction materials informations including the location and condition of each construction materials for the efficient reuse of them on the building demolition and reconstruction. The considered informations are obtained the RFID(: Radio Frequency IDentification) system with on-board the location estimation module. Using the reuse management of construction materials, based on the proposed database, we expect the reduction of the construction cost and time.

Basic study of reuse planning automation algorithms on system forms that are used on girders and beams (보용 시스템 거푸집의 전용계획 자동화 알고리즘 기초연구)

  • Formwork accounts for 10% of the total construction cost and 30~40% of the framework cost, which is a fairly large part. Various system forms were developed for improved economic feasibility and constructability of formwork and for reduced construction duration. In general, the price of system forms per unit area is higher than that of the conventional method, yet the total construction cost can be reduced through higher reusability and constructability. However, if the reusability of forms is excessively increased to cut down the material cost, it may increase the construction duration, which will result in cost increase. On the other hand, if the reusability is decreased for reduction of construction duration, it may lead to cost increase caused by excessive input of materials. To solve such a problem, an algorithm for simplified reuse planning that meets the requirements of construction duration, cost, quality and safety is required. In this regard, the study intends to perform a fundamental research for development of reuse planning automation algorithms on system forms that are used on girders and beams.

Development of Evaluation Model on Greenspace for Sustainability of Site-scale Development Projects (단지규모 개발사업의 지속가능성 확보를 위한 녹지 평가 모형 개발)

  • This study aims to develop the model of evaluation on greenspace to increase the sustain ability of the planning and management for site-scale development projects. The results of this study can be summarized as follows: (1) The comprehensive principles of sustainable development projects were established, which include coexistence of man and nature, reflection of ecological principles, minimization of environmental pollution and damage, recycling and reuse of materials. (2) According to established principles, the evaluation criteria were classified into seven categories as follows: retention of ample greenspace, formation of greenspace as a habitat, species diversity of vegetation, consideration of indigenous plants, construction of green network, conservation of greenspace, and reuse of plant materials. (3) As a result of the analysis of questionnaire of experts, evaluation model was worked out with which we can evaluate environmental friendliness greenspace. And, the final evaluation indicators for greenspace are the rate of greeneries volume, securing habitat, indigenous plants, reuse of plant materials, and species diversity of vegetation, and the indicator of greenspace conservation.

An integral based fuzzy approach to evaluate waste materials for concrete

  • Waste materials in concrete have been considered as one of the most important issues by the authorities, policy makers and researchers to maintain engineering serviceability in terms of economy, durability and sustainability. Therefore, evaluation and selection of waste materials with respect to multi criteria decision making (MCDM) for the construction industry has been gained importance for recovery and reuse. In this paper, Choquet integral based fuzzy approach is proposed for evaluating the most suitable waste materials with respect to compressive strength, tensile strength, flexural strength, compactness, toughness (resistivity for dynamic loads), water absorption and accessibility. On conclusion, waste tyre and silica fume were determined as the most suitable waste materials for concrete production. The obtained results are recommended to assist the authorities on configuring well designed strategies for construction industry with disposal materials.

  • Currently, the process of selecting products such as construction materials and equipment in the design phase proceeds based on the reuse of products used in the previous projects or samples from design companies as well as information on the limited products provided from the website of several manufactures. In particular, it is urgently required to formulate a standard product information management system that can be utilized in the BIM-based design environment these days. In Korea, domestic construction information classification system was developed, but its utilization has been underestimated since continuous studies on the practical usability are still lacking. Therefore, this paper derived problem of domestic construction materials information system by comparing with abroad material information system. Issues and implication is derived in terms of (1) Input information (2) Provide information, and (3) Utilize Information.

  • Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology has a significant attraction throughout various industry sites, along with the development of wireless communication technologies. The typical applications of RFID include medical, logistics, and distribution, and, specially, it is effectively applied to non-contact environments, because it employs radio waves. Although, recently, construction cases of the RFID management systems for the inventory management of the construction materials have been increased, the related researches and experiments for the reused materials are not actively performed. In this paper, we propose the RFID system with the localization function for effectively managing the reuse of the construction materials, adding to the conventional inventory management system. The proposed system consists of a RFID reader unit and a receiver unit, and the location information of the material with the attached RFID tag is obtained by estimating the position of a RFID reader. The distance value for estimating the reader position is calculated using the Received Signal Strength Indicator (RSSI) value of Zigbee, and the performance evaluation of the proposed system is performed in the indoor space of $5m{\times}5m$.

  • A mold of free-form concrete segment can be used only one time. Thus, the construction duration and cost are increased. The materials of the mold such as wood and metal have limitations due to the implementation and reuse. The review of the material of the mold for free-form concrete segment is needed to reduce duration and production cost. Phase change material can be used both to implement free-shape by heating and to produce mold after cooling. After using Phase change material can be re-used to mold by heating. The scope of this study is many kind of phase change materials for molding. The aim of this study is to analyze the phase change materials for production of changable mold for free-form concrete segment. In this study, the paraffin wax that is melted at 64℃ was selected by considering both the energy efficiency and the weather of Korea.

  • Since artificial building materials and environmental contamination are getting worse recently, people has been interested in eco-friendly construction. In addition, the problems like Sick Building Syndrome are issued these days. In order to solve these problems, the reuse of building materials and the development of environment-friendly materials are urgently in demand. In this sense, Hwangtoh is in the limelight as the environment-friendly material, and broad studies on it have been in progress. However the reactivity of Hwangtoh is low, and without activation process it is very hard to use it as a building material. This study examined the usability of Hwangtoh as an environmental building material by experimenting the reactivity of inactivated Hwangtoh with Reaction Induction Material.
