  • Au/TiO$_2$ core-shell structure nanoparticles were synthesised by sol-gel process, and the morphology and crystallinity of TiO$_2$ shell were investigated by TEM and UV-Vis. absorption spectrometer. Au/TiO$_2$ core-shell structure nanoparticles could be prepared by the hydrolysis of TOAA (Titanium Oxide Acethylacetonate) in Au colloid ethanol solution with $H_2O$. The thickness of TiO$_2$ shell on the surface of Au particles was about 1 nm. To investigate the crystallinity of TiO$_2$ shell, UV light with 254 nm and radioactive lay of $^{60}$ CO were irradiated on the TiO$_2$ coated Au colloid ethanol solution. The surface plasmon phenomenon of Au nanoparticles appeared only when the radioactive lay was irradiated on the TiO$_2$ coated Au colloid ethanol solution. From these results, it was found that the TiO$_2$ shell was amorphous and the MUA (Mercaptoundecanoic Acid) layer on the Au particle for its dispersion didn't act as an obstacle to disturb the movement of electron onto the surface of Au particle.

  • Simple and useful synthetic process to control the morphology of block copolymers (BCPs) is required for implementation in various device applications. However, the conventional method to use colloidal templates is not enough to realize the production of pure and massive core-shell nanoparticles due to the cost-intensive complex process. Here, we introduce a novel and facile synthesis method to realize the formation of core-shell $SiO_x$ nanoparticle power by employing an immersion annealing of a sphere-forming poly(styrene-b-dimethylsiloxane) (PS-b-PDMS) BCP. We successfully obtained a PS-encapsulated $SiO_x$ nanoparticle with a diameter of ~20 nm. In addition, we analyzed how the mixing ratio of heptane/ethanol affects the BCP morphology of self-assembled PS-b-PDMS nanoparticles, showing a worm-like structure under the optimum immersion conditions. This useful approach is expected to be extendable to other solvent-based BCP synthesis, providing a new guideline for unique BCP production.

  • Fe3O4/SiO2/YVO4:Eu3+ multifunctional nanoparticles are successfully synthesized by facile stepwise sol-gel processes. The multifunctional nanoparticles show a spherical shape with narrow size distribution (approximately 40 nm) and the phosphor shells are well crystallized. The Eu3+ shows strong photoluminescence (red emission at 619 nm, absorbance at 290 nm) due to an effective energy transfer from the vanadate group to Eu. Core-shell structured multifunctional nanoparticles have superparamagnetic properties at 300 K. Furthermore, the core-shell nanoparticles have a quick response time for the external magnetic field. These results suggest that the photoluminescence and magnetic properties could be easily tuned by either varying the number of coating processes or changing the phosphor elements. The nanoparticles may have potential applications for appropriate fields such as laser systems, optical amplifiers, security systems, and drug delivery materials.

  • In this study, $ZnFe_2O_4@SnO_2@TiO_2$ core-shell nanoparticles (NPs), a photocatalytic material with magnetic properties, were synthesized through a three-step process. Structural properties were investigated using X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis. It was confirmed that $ZnFe_2O_4$ of the spinel, $SnO_2$ of the tetragonal and $TiO_2$ of the anatase structure were synthesized. The magnetic properties of synthesized materials were studied by a vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM). The saturation magnetization value of $ZnFe_2O_4$, a core material, was confirmed at 33.084 emu/g. As a result of the formation of $SnO_2$ and $TiO_2$ layers, the magnetism due to the increase in thickness was reduced by 33% and 40%, respectively, but sufficient magnetic properties were reserved. The photocatalytic efficiency of synthesized materials was measured using methylene blue (MB). The efficiency of the core material was about 4.2%, and as a result of the formation of $SnO_2$ and $TiO_2$ shell, it increased to 73% and 96%, respectively while maintaining a high photocatalytic efficiency. In addition, the antibacterial activity was validated via the inhibition zone by using E. Coli and S. Aureus. The formation of shells resulted in a wider inhibition zone, which is in good agreement with photocatalytic efficiency measurements.
