Effects of Ethical Management of Retail Enterprises in Korea on Corporate Image and Purchase Intention

  • Purpose - The study aims to investigate the effects of ethical management on corporate image and purchase intention. Research design, data, and methodology - The study employs monthly time series data from October 2013 to November 2013, analyzing variables to verify hypotheses. These concern three questions on marketing communication, five on public interest business activities, four on donation & sponsorship, two on donation & sponsorship activities, six on corporate image, four on volunteer service, and five on demographic characteristics. Results - Hypothesis 1, "Ethical management in marketing communication, public interest business, donation & sponsorship, and volunteer service positively affects corporate image," was partially adopted with significant regression of marketing communication, public interest business activity, and donation & sponsorship. Hypothesis 2, "Ethical management such as marketing communication, public interest business, donation & sponsorship, and volunteer service positively affects purchase intention," was partially adopted with significant regression of marketing communication and public interest business. Hypothesis 3, "Corporate image positively affects purchase intention," was adopted at significant regression. Conclusions - Ethical management influenced purchase intention and corporate image.

The Effects of The Relationship between Communication, Trust and Organizational Culture on Corporate Competitiveness (의사소통, 신뢰 및 조직문화간의 관계가 기업 경쟁력에 미치는 효과)

  • This paper analyzes the relationship between organizational development culture, intra-organizational trust, and communication and their influence on corporate competitiveness. The research model is composed that development culture has a positive effect on trust and communication, and that trust and communication have a positive effect on corporate competitiveness. The data for the analysis were integrated at the company level (510 companies) and used the data of 9,053 employees collected in the 1st survey of the Human Capital Company Panel(HCCP II) of the Korea Research Institute for Vocational Education and Training(KRIVET). For corporate competitiveness, responses to 10 factors for internal process capability and customer service capability were used. The structural equation model was employed to analyze the research model. As a result of the analysis, development culture had a positive effect on organizational trust and communication. And trust and communication were found to have a positively effect on corporate competitiveness. In the indirect effect analysis through bootstrapping, the development culture did not show indirect effects through trust and communication, so only direct effects between development culture, trust and communication, and corporate competitiveness could be confirmed.

A Study on the Relationship between Network Structure of Corporate Communication and Corporate Reputation: Communication Network Analysis (기업 커뮤니케이션의 네트워크 구조와 기업명성간 관련성: 커뮤니케이션 네트워크 분석)

  • The purpose of this study is to explore the meaning and the effect of communication as social capital, which needs to be evaluated empirically focusing on corporate reputation. Also, it tried to analyze consumers' communication network in the structural, substantial, and relational level, which is to verify how characteristics and meanings of communication network structure affect to a good corporate reputation. A survey toward 200 participants was conducted during 5 days from March 29 to April 3, 2012. Characteristics of communication network structure of a corporation with higher reputation is analyzed using the index such as degree, degree centrality, and density. The findings of the study show that a corporation with higher reputation has higher network degree, degree centrality, and density compared to a corporation with lower reputation. Consumers of a corporation with higher reputation get information from various overlapping sources. It allows them to share similar interpretation, which could elevate the degree, degree centrality, and density of network. It also proved that when the network density is high, a corporation with higher reputation can distribute information much faster and easier. Moreover, in the substantial level of social capital, product/service information network has high degree and density rather than corporate issue information network. Likewise, degree and density of information acquisition network was higher than those of information provision network. Also, this study verified the effect and relationship between the network structure characteristics and corporate loyalty in a relational level. In this way, the positive effect of the degree centrality on corporate loyalty was supported. In conclusion, as consumers share more information from overlapping sources, the degree of communication network gets higher. Throughout this network, the diffusion of information among consumers would be activated, and this confirmed that corporate reputation and corporate loyalty is closely related.

  • The purpose of this study was to identify the relationship between complexity, tacit knowledge, know-how, perception, and perception on business performance, and to suggest management implications for corporate performance and organizational executives. Therefore, the implications of this study are as follows. First, corporate representatives and staff in charge of organization should be able to access various information and contents through various routes about the work of members of the organization, and should make efforts to freely communicate among members. Second, corporate representatives and organizational practitioners should consider using the traditional methods of communication within their work, but allowing more informed and inmates to do more off-the-job activities that can increase intimacy with each other. Third, corporate representatives and organizational practitioners should provide a situation in which they can acquire work knowledge in a variety of ways, but must devise communication methods to increase information sharing and information value among members. Fourth, corporate representatives and organizational practitioners should endeavor to provide employees with educational support, family invitation events, awards and bonuses, and compliments that will make them more interested in their work. Lastly, corporate representatives and organizational practitioners are encouraged to maintain effective communication, employee pride, etc., so that the concentration of work, achievement, quality and productivity of work, and high professionalism can be maintained.   • The study as explained above has been progressed as follows: Through the theoretical required for projecting the corporate's exhibition at exposition, the justifiability of this study was recognized. To approach the pavilion of exhibition the importance of marketing communication at the corporate and its forming process were suggested, and the public information of the corporate as a medium of its marketing communication was under-stood. - With regard to the exhibiting event as its method, general constituents and contents of it were closely looked into, and on the exposition, as a kind of corporate's event and a place for the reciprocally exchangeable communication between the corporate and the public, a general study was done. - The importance of identification of the corporate's image for the corporate to participate in an exposition and its analytic method were refined in the stages of 'basic image' and 'serve image', and the general process in which the corporate is processing the image of its own pusiness since its participation in exposition was suggested in terms a model, dividing it into the stages of inspection & analysis and design.

ESG Performance and Corporate Value: Evidence from Korean IT Companies

  • Due to the growing importance of ESG management, various studies have been conducted to explore the relationship between ESG performance and corporate value. The purpose of this study is to investigate how a company's ESG performance impacts its corporate value. The research findings indicate that there is difficulty in explaining the relationship between ESG performance of Korean IT companies and firm value in a straightforward manner. However, the results demonstrate that companies with higher profitability, higher foreign ownership, and higher R&D expenditure tend to have a positive impact of ESG ratings on corporate value. Based on these results, we can infer that Korean IT companies can enhance their corporate value by increasing R&D investments to develop innovative products that improve profitability. Additionally, attracting higher foreign investments can also positively influence ESG performance and subsequently increase corporate value. Acknowledging these factors can help companies realize the significance of ESG performance in elevating their overall corporate value.

  • Considering the role of a financial analyst that directly affects investors as an information mediator, management's decision to disclose to maximize corporate value will have an important impact on investors as well. On the other hand, whether or not managers vary the level of disclosure depending on the corporate form will have great implications for policy authorities. However, there is no domestic research on the relationship between the corporate form and the quality of voluntary disclosure. Our study shows that the corporate form tends to deepen the negative relationship between the proprietary information cost and the quality of disclosure. Examining whether the relationship between proprietary information cost and management disclosure decision making is valid for domestic companies is expected to provide meaningful implications for investors and regulators. Depending on the corporate form, if an entity makes a discriminatory disclosure, the cost of capital will be affected. A more in-depth follow-up study on this should be done.

The Effects of Digital Consumption Trust and Corporate Trust on IT Device and Service Satisfaction

  • Recently, trust in online transactions and corporate trust are most important at the corporate level as social overhead capital in commercial transactions using digital devices such as online, mobile, and SNS platforms. Therefore, this study used data from the Korea Consumer Agency's consumer policy indicators to identify the impact of digital consumption trust and corporate responsibility trust on the satisfaction of information and communication products and services. According to the analysis, trust in digital consumption conditions and responsibility of companies have a positive impact on satisfaction of information and communication devices and satisfaction of information and communication services. In addition, it was found that trust in corporate responsibility has a greater impact on satisfaction of information and communication devices and satisfaction of information and communication services than trust in digital consumption conditions. Theoretical and practical implications for these findings and suggestions for future research were presented.

Effects of the Enterprise Image in Korean Processed Marine Product Industry on Consumers' Product Evaluation and Purchase Intention (한국 수산물 가공식품기업의 이미지가 제품 평가 및 구매의도에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study is examining an influence of a corporate on processed marine product's purchase intention with moderating effect of consumers' product evaluation adding processed marine product's evaluations as new variable. The hypothesis of a positive influence of processed marine product's corporate image on processed marine product's purchase intension is partially supported. Specifically, product itself, service, reliability, and communication among the factors of a processed marine product's corporate image significantly affect processed marine product's purchase intension whereas corporate social responsibility does not affect processed marine product's purchase intention. Processed marine product's evaluation also positively affects processed marine product's purchase intention. It implies that there are somewhat differences between influences of various factors of a processed marine product's corporate image on processed marine product's purchase intention but are overall influences of a processed marine product's corporate image on processed marine product's evaluation both directly and indirectly. Nowadays, consumer considers not only good quality of product but also its invisible image and value. Therefore, future studies should consider various ways to investigate a processed marine product's corporate image and processed marine product's product evaluation.

A Study on the Effect of the Corporate Reputation, Perceived Motivation and Perceived Fit of Corporate Social Responsibility on the Recognition of Corporate Legitimacy in Crisis - Based on the Oil Spill Incidence of Samsung Heavy Industries (기업 명성과 기업의 사회적 책임 활동의 동기와 적합성이 위기 시 기업 정당성 인식에 미치는 영향 - 삼성중공업 기름유출 사례를 중심으로)

  • With the turn of the 21st century, corporate legitimacy is at risk. The society is demanding even greater responsibility to the corporations in return of exercising its enlarged influencing power. As the legitimacy is threatened, entrepreneurial activities have become even more important than ever in order to obtain trust from the public and to be accepted as an ethical enterprise. This study assumes corporate legitimacy as the necessary element in overcoming the crisis. With this respect, it further states what kind of effect the exercise of corporate reputation and social responsibility have on ensuring corporate legitimacy in crisis. To verify the purpose of this study, two research hypotheses and one research question were set. The major research results and the implications are as follows. First, the corporate reputation of Samsung Heavy Industries affects the corporate actional legitimacy in case of crisis. Second, recognition on corporate legitimacy varied in accordance with the public’s perception of the corporate social responsibility. Third, the interaction between corporate reputation and social responsibility plays a role in determining corporate legitimacy. This result denotes that it is necessary to exercise social responsibility and build up corporate reputation in order to obtain corporate legitimacy in crisis.
