  • Commercially pure copper is tested to obtain creep curves at 2500C. Constitutive relations adopting continuum damage mechanics concept is found to be appropriate to model the creep defor mation up to the tertiary stage. Microscopic observation by SEM reveals that creep condition induces cavities and microcracks subsequently. The constitutive equations along with evaluated creep parameters are implemented into finite element analysis code. The analysis reproduces creep curves under step loading as well as constant loading with reasonable accuracy. Distribution and evolution of damage under creep loading are numerically simulated for two different types of notched specimen. Predicted creep life agrees quite well with rupture test results. The influence of mesh size at notch tip on rupture time prediction is studied, and a degree of refinement is suggested for the specific notched specimens.

  • This research is focused on the inducement of the constitutive equation considering the creep strain component and on the development of a finite element method program. The purpose of this research was to contribute to the design of construction structures or to the construction management in soft clay ground through predicting the long-term strain of construction structures reasonably bused on the above program. Modified Cam Clay model was adopted to describe the elastic-plastic behavior of clayey soil. And in the calculation of the creep sprain, the secondary coefficient of consolidation C. was applied for considering the volumetric creep element and the constants m, $\alpha$, A were rosed by the empirical creep equation proposed by Singh 8E Mitchell for considering the deviatoric creep element. To examine the reliability of the program which is developed in this study, the estimated values by this program were compared with the theoretical solution and the experimental results. And the applicability of the developed program was found to be reliable from the sensitive analysis of each parameters used in this study. According to the results obtained from the application of the program on the field measurement data, the estimated values by the program were found with be consistent with the actual values. And from the analysis of the displacement of embankments, the case of considering the creep behavior induced much fower errors than the case of neglecting it. But the results obtained from considering the volumetric creep behavior only were slightly underestimated the results from considering the deviator creep behavior showed the slightly overestimated values. Therefore, it remains the task of further studios to develop the laboratory test devices to obtain the reliable creep parameters, and to select the appropriate soil parameters, etc.

  • Recently small punch creep testing (or miniature disc bend creep test) has received much attention through European collaborative research projects. This method was considered as a substitute for the conventional creep rupture testing by which the residual creep life is measured from the specimen taken out from serviced components of high temperature plants. It would be beneficial if the material creep properties such as power law creep constants as well as the creep rupture life can be measured from the small punch creep test. In this paper a method of assessing creep constants from the small punch creep testing is proposed. Finite element analyses were performed to investigate evolution of stress and strain rate at the weakest locations of the small punch creep specimen. Elastic-plastic-secondary creep analyses were carried out. The estimation equations for creep constants by the small punch creep testing are proposed based on the finite analysis results. Small punch creep tests were also performed with 9Cr steel and the accuracy of the proposed equation was verified by the experimental results.

  • A new model predicting the nonlinear basic creep behaviour of concrete structures subjected to high multi-axial stresses is proposed. It combines a model based on the thermodynamic framework of the elasto-plastic continuum damage theory for time-independent material behaviour and a rheological model describing phenomenologically the long-term delayed deformation. Strength increase due to ageing is regarded. The general 3D solution for the creep theory is derived from a rate-type form of the uniaxial formulation by the assumption of associated creep flow and a theorem of energy equivalence. The model is able to reproduce linear primary creep as well as secondary and tertiary creep stages under high compressive stresses. For concrete in tension a simple viscoelastic formulation is applied. The material law is then incorporated into a finite element solution procedure for analysis of reinforced concrete structures. Numerical examples of uniaxial creep tests and concrete members show excellent agreement with experimental results.

  • By considering the creep characteristics of concrete core under eccentric compression, a creep model of concrete filled steel tubes (CFT) columns under eccentric compressive loads is proposed based on the concrete creep model B3. In this proposed model, a discrete element method is introduced to transform the eccentric loading into axial loading. The validity of the model is verified by comparing the predicting results with the published creep experiments results on CFT specimens under compressive loading, together with the predicting values based on other concrete creep models, such as ACI209, CEB90, GL2000 and elastic continuation and plastic flow theory. By using the proposed model, a parameters study is carried out to analysis the effects of practical design parameters, such as concrete mix (e.g. water to cement ratio, aggregate to cement ratio), steel ratio and eccentricity ratio, on the creep of CFT columns under eccentric compressive loading.

  • As part of a study to analyze the excessive camber occurring in prestressed concrete railway bridges, this paper presents a calculation method and analysis results for the creep coefficient which defines the increase in camber of a concrete structure over time. Using the creep coefficient formula of the design code, the coefficient is obtained by applying the climatic conditions (relative humidity and temperature) of 12 regions in Korea. The effects of differences in climatic conditions by region and starting time of load on the creep coefficient are analyzed. In order to properly calculate the creep, most of which occurs in the early stages of loading, a detailed analysis is performed by applying a time step analysis method to consider varying climate conditions through loaded period. The creep coefficient obtained by applying the average climate conditions of the region is similar to the average of the creep coefficients obtained by time step analysis. Through time step analysis, it is shown that the offset and overlap effects of relative humidity and temperature on the creep coefficient and the climate effect at the time of initial loading can be appropriately represented.

  • The analysis model is the infinite body consisted of power law creep material containing a rigid inclusion with line crack shape subjected to the arbitrarily directional stress on an infinite boundary. The crack analysis is performed using the complex pseudo-stress function. The strain rate intensity factor is determined in the closed form as new fracture mechanics parmeter which represents the magnitudes of stress and strain rate near the tip in power law creep material.

  • In this paper, a structural analysis for the pressurized water reactor(PWR) spent nuclear fuel disposal canister which is deposited under the 500m deep underground is carried out to predict the creep deformation of the canister while the underground water and swelling bentonite pressure are applied on the canister. Usually the creep deformation may be caused due to the Pressure and the high heat applied to the canister even though additional external loads are not applied to the canister. These creep deformations depend on the time. In this paper, oかy the underground water and bentonite swelling Pressure are considered for the creep deformation analysis of the canister, because the heat distribution inside canister due the spent fuel is not simple and depends on time. A proper creep function is adopted for the creep analysis. The creep analysis is carried out during $10^8$ seconds. The creep analysis results show that the creep strains are very small and these strains occur usually in the lid and bottom of the canister not in the cast iron insert. A much smaller strain is found in the cast iron insert. Hence, the creep deformation doesn't affect the structural safety of the canister, and also the creep stress which shows the stress relaxation phenomenon doesn't affect the structural safety of the canister.

  • This study analyzes the characteristics of creep deformation behavior of weathered granite soils used in road embankments. The creep strain under the unconfined compressive state demonstrated an excellent agreement with the theoretical analysis of the burgers substance. The elastic deformation showed a termination in its characteristics after a long-term period owing to the increase in applied loads. The primary creep strain was 0.0028 and concluded that the deformation completed within $3{\sim}5$ days after applying the loads. Also, the completing time of creep deformation in the embankment soils increased in proportion to the height of embankment soils. The secondary creep strain is about 50% of the primary creep strain.

  • This paper evaluates the reliability of creep rupture life under service conditions of Alloy 617, which is considered as one of the candidate materials for use in a very high temperature reactor (VHTR) system. A Z-parameter, which represents the deviation of creep rupture data from the master curve, was used for the reliability analysis of the creep rupture data of Alloy 617. A Service-condition Creep Rupture Interference (SCRI) model, which can consider both the scattering of the creep rupture data and the fluctuations of temperature and stress under any service conditions, was also used for evaluating the reliability of creep rupture life. The statistical analysis showed that the scattering of creep rupture data based on Z-parameter was supported by normal distribution. The values of reliability decreased rapidly with increasing amplitudes of temperature and stress fluctuations. The results established that the reliability decreased with an increasing service time.
