Current Situation of Cryptocurrency in Vietnam

  • Purpose - The purpose of the research is to assess the current state of cryptocurrency in Vietnam and to provide several solutions and recommendations to the Government, the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) and other relevant agencies for monitoring, managing, and controlling cryptocurrency effectively and efficiently. Research design, data and methodology - The study is based on the assessment and analysis of cryptocurrency in the world and the real situation of cryptocurrency in Vietnam in order to provide solutions to the controllable development of operation of this currency. Results - The study indicates the current operations of cryptocurrency in Vietnam and provides several suggestions to effectively control this currency. Conclusion - According to the study on current cryptocurrency and the situation of cryptocurrency in Vietnam, the author has proposed a number of solutions to provide suggestions to manage and develop the operations of cryptocurrency in a most practical manner. The governments of many countries in the world, including the Government of Vietnam, need more time as well as appropriate technology improvements to take advantage of these new digital currencies; therefore, they still need to ensure safety in compliance with the control and regulatory capabilities of the central government and central banks.

  • As users' interests of cryptocurrency has been increased, investment volume of it also increases. In the cryptocurrency market, it cannot always be distributed homogenous information to all investors, similar to the stock market because it reflects the characteristics of a market microstructure. Cryptocurrency traders, thus, like stock investors, can experience the information asymmetry in the market and cannot but help to depend on private information. The purpose of this study is to estimate the trading intensity of informed traders and uninformed traders among cryptocurrency investors around the world based on PIN (Probability of Informed Trading). We have an aim to compare the difference of information asymmetry according to the ten types of cryptocurrency. The results of this study are expected to prevent the continuous increase of suspicious transactions related to cryptocurrency and contribute to the development of a sound cryptocurrency market.

머신러닝 기법을 활용한 암호화폐 유통 가격 예측 연구 (A Study on Predicting Cryptocurrency Distribution Prices Using Machine Learning Techniques)

  • Purpose: Blockchain technology suggests ways to solve the problems in the existing industry. Among them, Cryptocurrency system, which is an element of Blockchain technology, is a very important factor for operating Blockchain. While Blockchain cryptocurrency has attracted attention, studies on cryptocurrency prices have been mainly conducted, however previous studies mainly conducted on Bitcoin prices. On the other hand, in the context of the creation and trading of various cryptocurrencies based on the Blockchain system, little research has been done on cryptocurrencies other than Bitcoin. Hence, this study attempts to find variables related to the prices of Dash, Litecoin, and Monero cryptocurrencies using machine learning techniques. We also attempt to find differences in the variables related to the prices for each cryptocurrencies and to examine machine learning techniques that can provide better performance. Research design, data, and methodology: This study performed Dash, Litecoin, and Monero price prediction analysis of cryptocurrency using Blockchain information and machine learning techniques. We employed number of transactions in Blockchain, amount of generated cryptocurrency, transaction fees, number of activity accounts in Blockchain, Block creation difficulty, block size, umber of created blocks as independent variables. This study tried to ensure the reliability of the analysis results through 10-fold cross validation. Blockchain information was hierarchically added for price prediction, and the analysis result was measured as RMSE and MAPE. Results: The analysis shows that the prices of Dash, Litecoin and Monero cryptocurrency are related to Blockchain information. Also, we found that different Blockchain information improves the analysis results for each cryptocurrency. In addition, this study found that the neural network machine learning technique provides better analysis results than support-vector machine in predicting cryptocurrency prices. Conclusion: This study concludes that the information of Blockchain should be considered for the prediction of the price of Dash, Litecoin, and Monero cryptocurrency. It also suggests that Blockchain information related to the price of cryptocurrency differs depending on the type of cryptocurrency. We suggest that future research on various types of cryptocurrencies is needed. The findings of this study can provide a theoretical basis for future cryptocurrency research in distribution management.

암호화폐거래소 위험성 경감방안 연구 (A Study on the Risk Reduction Plan of Cryptocurrency Exchange)

  • 본 논문에서는 암호화폐거래소 이용자를 보호하고 거래소의 안정적인 운영환경을 확보하기 위한 국내 암호화폐거래소 운영리스크 경감방안을 제시한다. 암호화폐거래소를 이용해 암호화폐시장에 참여하는 시장참여자에게 암호화폐의 가격변동 리스크만큼 위협적인 리스크는 암호화폐거래소 리스크이다. 암호화폐시장에서는 암호화폐의 거래 익명성을 악용한 탈세, 범죄이용, 유사수신 사기, 자금세탁 등 불법거래가 빈번히 발생하고 있고 이외에도 사이버 침해사고와 내부인력에 의한 손실 사고가 끊이지 않고 있으며, 이로 인한 손실이 거래소 이용자에게 고스란히 전가되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 현재 국내 암호화폐거래소의 운영 실태와 이용자 손실 발생 사고에 대한 대응 등을 거래소 운영리스크의 관점에서 분석하여, 이용자를 고객으로 유치하고 고객인 이용자를 보호하기 위한 거래소 플랫폼의 발전 방향을 제시한다.

인터넷 검색을 통한 암호화폐 수익률 및 변동성에 대한 인과검정: 적률인과 접근 (Tests for Causality from Internet Search to Return and Volatility of Cryptocurrency: Evidence from Causality in Moments)

  • Purpose This study analyzes whether Internet search of cryptocurrency has a causal relationship to return and volatility of cryptocurrency. Design/methodology/approach Google Trend was used as a measure of the level of Internet search, and the parametric tests of Granger causality in the 1st moment and the 2nd moment were adopted as the analysis method. We used Bitcoin's dollar-based price, which is the No. 1 market value among cryptocurrency. Findings The results showed that the Internet search measured by Google Trends has a causal relationship to cryptocurrency in both average and volatility, while there is a difference in causality and its degree according to the search area and category that Google Trend user should set. Because the Granger causality is based on the improvement of prediction, the analysis results of this study indicate that Internet search can be used as a leading indicator in predicting return and volatility of cryptocurrency.

Cryptocurrency Market: Behavioral Finance Perspective

  • The cryptocurrency market has received immense consideration in media and academia since the beginning of 2013 because of its huge price fluctuation. This study focuses on Arab investors who invest in the cryptocurrency market by investigating the influence of behavioral finance factors on investment decisions in the cryptocurrency market. A quantitative approach was used by employing a snowball sampling method through 112 questionnaires. The results show that herding theory, prospect theory, and heuristic theory have a significant effect on investors' investment decisions in the cryptocurrency market. This emphasizes the significant role of the proposed behavioral factors as determinants of the investors' investment decisions. This study contributes to the existing research by consolidating the results of different researches in this study. It also contributes to the investors' understanding of the dynamics of the cryptocurrency market and it enhances the ability to make informed decisions based on their understanding. The implication of the findings will prepare hit and run investors to be progressively prepared to stay in the cryptocurrency market and develop their abilities on the most proficient method to settle on sound venture choices. Furthermore, the findings of this study will encourage financial specialists to realize that information on the traditional finance theory is not adequate to excel in the cryptocurrency market.

  • Bitcoin and other prominent cryptocurrencies have gained much attention since the last several years. Globally known as digital coin and virtual currency, this cryptocurrency is gained and traded within the blockchain system. The blockchain technology adopted in using the cryptocurrency has raised the eyebrows within the banking sector, government, stakeholders and individual investors. The rise of the cryptocurrency within this decade since the inception of Bitcoin in 2009 has taken the market by storm. Cryptocurrency is anticipated as the future currency that might replace the current paper currency worldwide. Even though the interest has caught the attention of users, many are not aware of its opportunities, drawbacks and challenges for the future. Researches on cryptocurrencies are still lacking and still at its infancy stage. In providing substantial guide and view to the academic field and users, this paper will discuss the opportunities in the cryptocurrency such as the security of its technology, low transaction cost and high investment return. The originality of this paper is on the discussion within law and regulation, high energy consumption, possibility of crash and bubble, and attacks on network. The future undertakings of cryptocurrency and its application will be systematically reviewed in this paper.

가상화폐 시장의 인물 영향력에 대한 탐색적 연구: 일론 머스크의 발언을 중심으로 (An Exploratory Study of Influencer's Impacts for Cryptocurrency Markets: Focused on the Elon Musk's Twitter Activity)

  • 본 연구는 가상화폐시장에서 인물 영향력을 확인하고자 한다. 즉, 영향력 있는 인물의 발언에 따른 가상화폐의 시장가격변화를 확인하여 인물 영향력의 존재유무와 영향력을 주는 발언을 확인하고 이에 대한 시사점을 제시하고자 한다. 이를 위해 가상화폐시장에서 전 세계적으로 유명한 일론 머스크의 가상화폐에 대한 발언시기에 따라 비트코인과 도지코인의 가격변화에 대한 분석을 실시한 후 비정상수익이 발행한 시점을 확인하였다. 분석결과에 따르면 (1) 부분별한 인물 영향력은 사라지고 있지만, (2) 가상화폐시장에서는 여전히 추측을 통한 투자가 이뤄지고 있으며, (3) 인물 영향력의 지속기간은 매우 짧고 직접적인 언급이 있는 경우 더 큰 영향력을 준다는 점을 확인할 수 있었다. 이 연구결과는 가상화폐시장이 건강하게 성장하기 위해서는 가상화폐에 대한 객관적인 평가체계 마련과 불량 가상화폐에 대한 구조조정이 필요하고, 정부주도의 디지털 화폐정책 입안 시 가상화폐를 참여시켜 합법적인 투명한 투자환경조성에 대한 노력이 필요하다는 점을 시사한다.

  • 기술정보의 가치가 높아짐에 따라 해킹을 통한 기술정보를 탈취하려는 해킹 공격이 늘어나고 있으며, 최근 암호화폐 거래소의 해킹은 기존의 기술정보보다 훨씬 현금화가 쉬워 해커들의 주요 공격 대상이 되고 있다. 기술정보의 경우는 기술정보를 탈취한 후 블랙마켓에 판매해야 현금화가 되지만 암호화폐의 경우 해킹 성공 시 바로 현금화가 용이하고 추적이 쉽지 않아 대부분의 해킹 공격은 암호화폐 거래소에 집중되어 있고, 블록체인 기술은 해킹이 불가능하지만, 암호화폐 거래소에서 트레이딩 되는 암호화폐 거래내역은 블록체인에 기록되지 않고 단순한 거래소 내부 거래이기 때문에 내부자가 시세를 조작하여 차액을 남기거나 외부로 유출되는 사례가 빈번히 발생하고 있다. 따라서, 최근에 발생한 암호화폐 거래소의 해킹 공격을 분석하고 해결방안을 제시하여 안전한 암호화폐 거래를 할 수 있도록 제안한다.

Blockchain-Based Mobile Cryptocurrency Wallet

  • As the monetary value of cryptocurrency increases, the security measures for cryptocurrency becomes more important. A limitation of the existing cryptocurrency exchanges is their vulnerability to threats of hacking due to their centralized manner of management. In order to overcome such limitation, blockchain technology is increasingly adopted. The blockchain technology enables decentralization and Peer-to-Peer(P2P) transactions, in which blocks of information are linked in chain topology, and each node participating in the blockchain shares a distributed ledger. In this paper, we propose and implement a mobile electronic wallet that can safely store, send and receive cryptocurrencies. The proposed mobile cryptocurrency wallet connects to the network only when the wallet actively is used. Wallet owner manages his or her private key offline, which is advantageous in terms of security. JavaScript based wallet apps were implemented to respectively run on Android and iOS mobile phones. I demonstrate the process of transferring Ethereum cryptocurrency from an account to another account through Ropsten, a test net for Ethereum. Hardware wallets, such as Ledger Nano S, provide a slightly higher level of security, yet have the disadvantages of added burden of carrying additional physical devices and high costs (about 80$).
