From immature seed of Phaseolus vulgaris L., a novel phytosteryl glucoside was isolated. Strong ion peaks at m/z 613 $[M+Na}^{+},\;696\;[M+Matrix]^{+}$ in positive F AB- MS and at m/z 589 $[M-1]^{-}$ in negative F AB- MS indicated the molecular weight of the compound is 590. Four hundred MHz $^IH-NMR$ analysis revealed that the compound canys a 24-hydroxy-24-vinyl-cholesterol (saringosterol) as an aglycone and a ${\beta}-D-glucopyranose$. Four hundred MHz $^IH-NMR$ analysis of the acetate derivate of the compound revealed that hydroxyls at C-1' in glucose moeity and at C-3 in aglycone have been condensed. Therefore, the phytosteryl glucoside was characterized to be $3-0-{\beta}-D-glucopyranosyl-24-hydroxy-24-vinyl-cholesterol$ (saringosteryl glucoside). This is the first demonstration for the presence of saringosterol in higher plants. Also this is the first identification of saringosteryl glucoside in natural materials.erials.

Two different groups (30 and 60 inds.) of olive flounder (Paralichthys olivaceus) were abruptly (within 30 min) exposed to hypo-salinities from seawater (SW, 35$\textperthousand$) to freshwater (FW, 0$\textperthousand$) (30FW and 60FW) and to 35$\textperthousand$ (30SW and 60SW) in a flow through seawater culture systems. Analysis of plasma samples showed the following significant increase at 0$\textperthousand$: cortisol from $2.8\;ng\;mL^{-1}$ to $66.9\;ng\;mL^{-1}$ (30FW) and from $2.7\;ng\;mL^{-1}$ to $314.1\;ng\;mL^{-1}$ (60FW) after 24 hours of exposure; glucose from $15.8\;mg\;dL^{-1}$ to $257.7\;mg\;dL^{-1}$ after 3 hours exposure and to $164.0\;mg\;dL^{-1}$ after 24 hours in 60FW. Plasma $Na^+$ concentration of 30FW and 60FW were decreased until 24 hours after expose. However that in 30SW and 60SW showed no significant differences. Plasma $Cl^-$ concentration of 60FW was decreased from $59.0\;mEq\;L^{-1}$ to $43.5\;mEq\;L^{-1}$ and to $30.0\;mEq\;L^{-1}$ after 3 and 24 hours of exposure, respectively. At all experimental groups, survival were 100% until 24 hours.

On the basis of spectroscopic evidences, the structures were characterized as $3-0-{\beta}-D-xylopyranosyl-(2',3'-O-diacetyl)-6-0-{\beta}-D-glucopyranosyl-3{\beta},6{\alpha},16{\beta},25-tetrahydroxy-20(R)$,24(S)-epoxy-cycloartane(Astragaloside I), $3-0-{\beta}-D-xylopyranosyl-(2'-O-acetyl)-6-0-{\beta}-D-glucopyranosyl-3{\beta},6{\alpha},16{\beta},25-tetrahydroxy-20(R)$,24(S)-epoxy-cycloartane(Astragaloside II), $3-0-{\beta}-D-xylopyranosyl-(2',4'-O-diacetyl)-6-0-{\beta}-D-glucopyranosyl-3{\beta},6{\alpha},16{\beta},25-tetrahydroxy-20(R)$,24(S)-epoxycycloartane(Isoastragaloside I). Full data of NMR including HMBC and 1D-TOCSY experiment of these compounds were reported for the first time.
Let D be an integral domain, X be an indeterminate over D, and D[X] be the polynomial ring over D. We show that D is an almost weakly factorial PvMD if and only if D + XDS[X] is an integrally closed almost GCD-domain for each (saturated) multiplicative subset S of D, if and only if $D+XD_1[X]$ is an integrally closed almost GCD-domain for any t-linked overring $D_1$ of D, if and only if $D_1+XD_2[X]$ is an integrally closed almost GCD-domain for all t-linked overrings $D_1{\subseteq}D_2$ of D.
A study was conducted to investigate the effect of water temperature and photoperiod on the oxygen consumption of the fasting juvenile Pacific cod Gadus macrocephalus (mean body weight 79.9${\pm}$2.0 g) in order to quantify metabolic response of the species under given conditions. The oxygen consumption rate (OCR) of G. macrocephalus was measured under a combination of four different water temperatures (7, 10, 13 and $16^{\circ}C$) and three different photoperiods (24L:0D, 12L:12D and 0L:24D) with an interval of 5 minutes over a 24-hour period using a closed recirculating respirometer. Three replicates were set up in each treatment. OCRs increased with increased water temperatures under all photoperiod conditions (P<0.001). Mean OCRs at 7, 10, 13 and 16oC ranged from 793.7~1108.4, 1145.7~1570.3, 1352.8~1742.5 and 1458.2~1818.6 mg $O_2$$kg^{-1}$$h^{-1}$, respectively. Under all water temperature conditions except $7^{\circ}C$ (P<0.001), mean OCRs of G. macrocephalus were the highest in continuous light (24L:0D) followed by 12L:12D and 0L:24D photoperiods. Mean OCRs of fish exposed to the 12L:12D photoperiod were significantly higher during the light phase than during the dark phase under all temperature conditions (P<0.001). $Q_{10}$ values ranged from 3.19~5.13 between 7 and $10^{\circ}C$, 1.41~1.74 between 10 and $13^{\circ}C$ and 1.15~1.35 between 13 and $16^{\circ}C$, respectively. Based on overall results, water temperature, photoperiod and their combinations exerted a significant influence on the metabolic rate of juvenile cod. This study provides empirical data for estimating the amount of oxygen demand and managing the culture of cod under the given water temperatures and photoperiods.
A new cycloartane glycoside (1) was isolated from the aerial part of Thalictrum uchiyamai Nakai (Ranunculaceae). On the basis of chemical and physicochemical evidence, the aglycone structure of this compound was characterized as 116, 25-dihydroxy-3, 24-diacetoxy-9, 19-cycloartane-29-oic acid, a new derivative of cycloartane triterpene. Also the oli-gosaccharide moiety of this glycoside were determined as 29-O-${alpha}$-L-rhanmnopyranosyl- ($1rightarrow2$)-[${beta}$-D-xylofuranosyl-($1rightarrow6$)-${beta}$-D-glucopyranose by application of HMBC technoque. Consequently, the structure of compound 1 was elucidated as 29-O-${alpha}$-L-rhanmnopyranosy-($1rightarrow2$)-[${beta}$-D-xylofuranosyl-($1rightarrow6$)-${beta}$-D-glucopyranosyl-16, 25-dihydroxy-3, 24-diacetoxy-9, 19-cycloartane-29-oic acid ester.
Seven compounds were isolated from the MeOH extract of the seeds of Plantago asiatica L. and their structures were identified as ${\beta}-sitosterol$ (1), (24R)-6${\beta}$-hydroxy-24-ethyl-cholest-4-en-3-one (2), acteoside (3), geniposidic acid (4), 1-octen-3-ol 3-O-${\beta}$-D-xylopyranosyl$(1{\rightarrow}6)-{\beta}-D-glucopyranoside$ (5), plantainoside D (6) and plantamajoside (7) on the spectroscopic analysis. Among them, $(24R)-6{\beta}$-hydroxy-24-ethyl-cholest-4-en-3-one (2) and 1-octen-3-ol 3-O-${\beta}$-D-xylopyranosyl ($1{\rightarrow}6)-{\beta}-D-glucopyranoside$ (5) were first isolated from this plant. Among them, geniposidic acid (4) showed the most potent inhibitory effect on melanogenesis, with inhibition rate of 41%.
The effect of water temperature and photoperiod on the oxygen consumption of the fasted juvenile parrot fish, Oplegnathus fasciatus was investigated to provide empirical data for the early-stage culture management and bioenergetic growth model of the species. The mean body weight of the juvenile used for the experiment was $21.5{\pm}1.9g$, and the oxygen consumption rate was measured under four water temperatures (10, 15, 20 and $25^{\circ}C$) and three photoperiods (24L:0D, 12L:12D and OL:24D) with an interval of 5 minutes for 24 hours using a continuous flow-through respirometer. In each treatment three replicates were set up and 15 juveniles were totally involved. The oxygen consumption rates increased with increasing water temperature under all photoperiod treatments (P<0.001). Mean oxygen consumption rates at 10, 15, 20 and $25^{\circ}C$ ranged $202.1{\sim}403.4,\;306.7{\sim}502.2,\;536.7{\sim}791.0\;and\;879.9{\sim}1,077.4mg\;O_2\;kg^{-1}h^{-1}$, respectively. $Q_{10}$ values ranged $1.58{\sim}2.30$ between 10 and $15^{\circ}C,\;2.44{\sim}3.06$ between 15 and $20^{\circ}C\;and\;1.86{\sim}2.6y9$ between 20 and $25^{\circ}C$, respectively. Mean oxygen consumption rates of O. fasciatus were the highest in continuous light (24L:0D) followed by 12L:12D and 0L:24D (P<0.001). The oxygen consumption of fish exposed to the 12L:12D photoperiod was significantly higher during the light phase than during the dark phase under all temperature treatments (P<0.001). In summary, oxygen consumption rates of the juvenile parrot fish increase with increasing water temperature and lengthening daylight period; and, thereby, changes in water quality resulted from the depletion of oxygen under high temperature and long daylight photoperiod conditions should be monitored.
Oxygen consumption rate of Far eastern catfish, Silurus asotus, weighing 280g, was measured using continuous flow respirometry chamber linked computer monitoring system. Mean oxygen consumption rates at $15^{\circ}C,\;20^{\circ}C,\;25^{\circ}C$, and $30^{\circ}C$ were ranged in 35.2$\~96.4mg\;O_2/kg$ fish/hr, 78.6$\~127.9mg\;O_2/kg$ fish/hr, 120.1$\~231.7mg\;O_2/kg$ fish/hr, and 197.5$\~352.3mg\;O_2/kg$ fish/hr, respectively. The oxygen consumption rates increased with increasing water temperature (p<0.05). A photoperiod-mediated oxygen consumption rates was higher during the light period than during the darkness (P<0.05). When acclimated with different photoperiods, 24L:0D, 12L:12D, and 0L:24D, the lowest oxygen consumption rate was observed in the continuous darkness (0L:24D). The differences between maximum and minimum oxygen consumption rates oyer 24 hour increased with increasing water temperature and the difference was the highest in 12L:12D. Oxygen consumption rate changed suddenly at dawn and at dusk.

The plasma membrane and microsomes, isolated from the cells treated with hematoporphyrm derivative (HpD) for 1 and 24 h, accumulated the aggregated porphyrin. The quantity of aggregated porphyrin was same in the plasma membrane and microsomes after isolating them from cells treated with HpD for 1 h whereas the microsomes accumulated higher quantity of aggregated porphyrin when cells were treated with HpD for 24 h. Photodynamic action of aggregated porphyrin on plasma membrane and microsomes was investigated using lipid specific fluorescent probes: 1,6-diphenyl-1,3,5-hexatrine (DPH) and 1-(4-trimethylammonium), 6-diphenyl-1,3,5-hexatrine(TMA-DPH). The time dependent anisotropy of these probes in the membranes was measured and the decay of anisotropy was analyzed using wobbling in cone model. Upon irradiation both the plasma membrane and the microsomes showed an increase in the limiting anis~)tropy and order parameter and a decrease in the cone angle of the lipid probes. The increase in the limiting anisotropy was pronounced in membranes isolated from the cells treated with HpD for 24 h. Photoinduced change in the limiting anisotropy was dependent on the duration of incubation of cells with HpD before isolating the membranes. In both the membranes. the membrane core was affected more as compared to the outer leaflet. In addition to the structural changes, a decrease in Na$^+$-K$^+$-ATPase and NADPH cyt c reductase activity was also observed upon irradiation of HpD treated cells. Inhibition in NADPH cyt c reductase was more when cells were treated with HpD for 24 h, however, Na$^+$-K$^+$-ATPase activity did not depend on the duration of the treatment of cells with HpD before irradiation. Our results suggest that the extent of photoinduced perturbations in the membranes varies as a function of duration of the treatment of cells with HpD and the membrane core is more susceptible to the photodynamic action of aggregated porphyrin.
