The Purpose of this study is to analyze the green design strategies in residential building, based on case study of Solar Decathlon in USA. This study could provide the basic reference data and theocratical foundation for finding new green design strategies and applicability of green design for korea. The Solar Decathlon is an green design competition that challenges collegiate teams to design, build, and operate the green residential building with optimal energy production and maximum efficiency. As a result of the analysis of this study, the green design strategy is identified and analyzed design issues related in energy, materials, and indoor/outdoor environment. Also, it is useful to find best green design strategy with more economical and environmental benefits presented by renewable energy and design solutions. This study is based on selected 18 green housings of Solar Decathlon from 2002 to 2013. This result is helpful to understand the green design strategies for green residential building's design of modern residential building, and expect future green residential building design approach.

The decathlon is an athletic event consisting of ten track and field events. Events are held over two consecutive days and the winners are determined by the combined performance in all. We considered the best 200 decathletes who competed in the recent Olympics games and World Championship decathlon. We have used correspondence analysis to identify the relationship between ordered individual performance and the overall performance. Canonical correlation analysis of first day events versus second day events could shed light on the change of the level of performance between the two days. Correlation analysis was used to verify relation between cumulative event rank and final decathlon rank. Therefore, we conclude that the decathlon favors those atheletes who do well at the track events to become the best players. The best players in the decathlon performed relatively poorly in the 1,500 metres, but did well in the long jump, the 400 metres and the 110-metre hurdles. Decathletes in this study have a positive correlation between overall performance and maximal excellence in a particular discipline. Thus, to compete successfully at this level, a uniform, relatively high performance in all individual disciplines is required.

The decathlon is an athletic event consisting of ten track and field events. Events are held over two consecutive days and the winners are determined by the combined performance in all. Performance is judged in meters, centimeters, minutes, and seconds. However, how to convert results into points is a difficult and controversial issue. We explored the distribution of decathlon results from the 1991 to 2009 using top 200 decathlons in the Olympic games and word championships. The conclusion is that the results from top level decathlon competition are normally distributed, and the current scoring system does not have the property that the performance with same difficulty should get same points. A new model for evaluating the decathlon score has been applied that display uniform characteristics over all events in order to meet the notion of allroundness. The proposed model is uniform over the events and support self-stabilization.

The U.S. Department of Energy conducts the Solar Decathlon competition as a student-based achievement that encourages sustainable design with energy efficiency and solar energy technologies. In the 2020 competition, the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) team designed, fabricated, and constructed a net-zero modular house that applies innovative and highly efficient building technologies. This paper focused on the lessons learned during the early phases of this ongoing modular project. The research methodology included obtaining feedback from key project participants using a well-structured questionnaire. The results showed that the major items/challenges in the project's planning phase included selecting the modular size, planning the construction system, planning the materials and procurement, estimating costs and duration, selecting a fabricator, collaboration and communication, safety, and planning module transportation. These findings will help modular practitioners and future Solar Decathlon competition participants better understand how and what factors they should consider most during the early phases through the lessons learned.

This study was conducted to select the best adapted alfalfa cultivars among 32 introduced alfalfa cultivars in the Korean environmental condition. Plant height and dry matter yield per cultivar were determined. On the point of plant height, seven high ranked cultivars among the 32 alfalfa cultivars in high order were Diamond> Milkmaker> Arrow>Chalienger>Sapphire > Dekalb brand 135> LS-1920. and seven low ranked cultivars in low order were Pioneer brand 5929> Maxidor> Dekalb brand 167> Pierce> Blazer> Raidor> Pioneer brand 532. Seven high ranked cultivars from 32 alfalfa cultivars on the dry matter yield in high order were Pike>LS-1920>Challenger>Salute>Diamond>Decathlon>Pioneer brand 581, and seven low ranked cultivars in low order were Maxidor>Pioneer brand 5929>Pioneer brand 532>Florida 77> Pierce> Magnum> Blazer. Dry matter yield per cultivar was also greater when alfalfa cultivar was appeared higher plant height compared with those which were lower plant height. Leading cultivars for plant growth and yield under the Korean environmental condition were Pike, LS-1920, Challenger, Salute, Diamond among the 32 alfalfa cultivars. All those cultivars except Challenger cultivar are Semi-dormant which can be well grown under moderate temperatures.
