An experimental study was carried out to determine pullout behavior of a new type of anchor bolt that used deformed reinforcement and a commercial adhesive. Concrete slabs and columns with about 20-MPa compressive strength were used for 136 pullout tests performed. Test variables included anchor diameter (10 mm ~ 32 mm). embedment depth (10$\Phi$ or 15$\Phi$), edge effect. and Presence of transverse reinforcement in existing concrete. In Tyre-S test. where the edge or reinforcing steel effect was not included, the anchor Pullout strengths increased with increasing anchor diameters. Anchors with 15$\Phi$ embedment depth had higher Pullout strengths than those with 100 embedment depth The largest average Pullout load of 208 kN was determined for anchors made with D25 reinforcement and with 15$\Phi$ embedment depth. In Type-E tests, where the anchors were installed close to the edge of existing concrete, there were reductions in pullout strengths when compared to those determined in Type-S tests. In Type-ER tests, influence of the reinforcement in existing concrete on the anchor pullout strengths was examined using reinforced concrete and plain concrete columns Test results indicated that existing transverse reinforcement (column ties) did not help increase the pullout strength. The overall pullout test results revealed that the new anchor bolt can develop large pullout strengths while the anchors can be made of materials that are readily available in the market.
It is well known that sound waves in the sea propagates under the influence of sea surface and bottom roughness, the sound speed profile, the water depth, and the density of sea floor sediment. In particular, an abrupt change of sound speed with depth can greatly affect sound propagation through an eddy. Eddies are frequently generated in the East Sea near the Korean Peninsula. A warm eddy with diameter of about 150 km is often observed, and the sound speed profile is greatly changed within about 400 m of water depth at the center by the eddy around the Ulleung Basin in the East Sea. The characteristics of low-frequency sound propagation across a warm eddy are investigated by a sound propagation model in order to understand the influence of warm eddies. The acoustic rays and propagation losses are calculated by a range-dependent acoustic model in conditions where the eddy is both present and absent. We found that low-frequency sound propagation is affected by the warm eddy, and that the phenomena dominate the upper ocean within 800 m of water depth. The propagation losses of a 100 Hz frequency are variable within ${\pm}15$ dB with depth and range by the warm eddy. Such variations are more pronounced at the deep source near the sound channel axis than the shallow source. Furthermore, low-frequency sound propagation from the eddy center to the eddy edge is more affected by the warm eddy than sound propagation from the eddy edge to the eddy center.
An analytical-computational method along with finite element analysis (FEA) has been employed to analyse the dynamic behaviour of deteriorated structures excited by time- varying mass. The present analysis is focused on the comparative study of a double cracked beam with inclined edge cracks and transverse open cracks subjected to traversing mass. The assumed computational method applied is the fourth order Runge-Kutta method. The analysis of the structure has been carried out at constant transit mass and speed. The response of the structure is determined at different crack depth and crack inclination angles. The influence of the parameters like crack depth and crack inclination angles are investigated on the dynamic behaviour of the structure. The results obtained from the assumed computational method are compared with those of the FEA for validation and found good agreements with FEA.

CMP characteristics such as material removal rate and edge effect were measured and investigated in accordance with pad grooving effect, groove width, depth and pitch. GSQ (Groove Stiffness Quotient) and GFQ (Groove Flow Quotient) were proposed to estimate pad grooving characteristics. GSQ is defined as groove depth(D) divided by pad thickness(T) and GFQ is defined as groove width(W) divided by groove pitch(P). As GFQ value increased, material removal rate increased some point but gradually saturated. It seems that material removal rate is not affected by each parameter respectively but by interaction of these parameters such as groove dimensions. In addition, an increase in GFQ and GSQ causes edge effect to be improved. Because, pad stiffness decreases as GSQ and GFQ increase. In conclusion, groove influences relative pad stiffness although original mechanical properties of pad are unchanged by grooving. Also, it affects the flow of slurry that has an effect on the lubrication regime and polishing results. The change of groove dimensions has influence on pad stiffness and slurry flow, so that polishing results such as removal rate and edge effect become changed.

In this paper the fretting wear of press-fitted specimens subjected to a cyclic bending load was simulated using finite element analysis and numerical method. The amount of microslip and contact variable at press-fitted and bending load condition in a press-fitted shaft was analysed by applying finite element method. With the finite element analysis result, a numerical approach was applied to predict fretting wear based on modified Archard's equation and updating the change of contact pressure caused by local wear with influence function method. The predicted wear profiles of press-fitted specimens at the contact edge were compared with the experimental results obtained by rotating bending fatigue tests. It is shown that the depth of fretting wear by repeated slip between shaft and boss reaches the maximum value at the contact edge. The initial surface profile is continuously changed by the wear at the contact edge, and then the corresponding contact variables are redistributed. The work establishes a basis for numerical simulation of fretting wear on press fits.
Coverglass of electronic equipments is thinner and slimmer, so the glass must have good bending strength. In these days, the polishing edge of glass is used by solid tool like grinding wheel. But solid tool leave micro crack or edge chipping in edge of glass. MR polishing is an optimal method by polishing edge of glass. MR polishing is used MR fluid that is a liquid tool. MR polishing doesn't leave tool path or residual stress, micro crack and edge chipping unlike grinding wheel polishing. In this paper, the results of grinding and MR polishing were compared and analyzed to improve bending strength by minimizing edge chipping of cover glass. It was derived that the depth and size of cracks have a significant influence on the bending strength of the glass edge. The edges of the glass using MR grinding were analyzed to have a better surface and higher bending strength than the glass using abrasive wheel grinding. It was confirmed that MR polishing had an effect on strength improvement by effectively removing cracks in the specimen.

The present study reported of the use of special shaped blade to reduce the difference in pressure across the Wells turbine for wave energy conversion. The blade profile was composed of NACA0020 airfoils and trailing edge was notched like chevron. Experiments were performed investigating the influence of trailing edge shape on the turbine performance. Four notch depths were used to investigate the effect of depth of cut on the turbine performance. As results, by placing a notch-cut at the trailing edge of the blade, it was possible to reduce the pressure difference across the turbine without lowering the efficiency. In addition, the pressure difference substantially reduced at a constant rate with the increase of the cut ratio.

In this study, ways to reduce the edge pressure at the bottom plate of the caisson breakwater were considered. The water depth, freeboard, design wave height and period, and the location of the center of gravity on the super-structure of the breakwater were selected as key design variables that influence the edge pressure, and analyzed how the edge pressure changes according to the change of this key variables. The pressure distribution formulae suggested in the design standard was applied for the calculation of design wave forces. Based on the wave forces, the required effective self-weight of the super-structure and the minimum width of the caisson were determined to have a safety factor of 1.2 against sliding and overturning. From the results, it was found that the edge pressure rapidly increased as the water depth increased, and could exceed the allowable bearing capacity when it reached a certain water depth which is 20 m within the analysis conditions. It was also confirmed that the edge pressure gradually increased linearly as the freeboard increased, but decreased with the increase of the wave height and period. This edge pressure could be significantly reduced up to more than 20% by moving the center of gravity of the super-structure to the seaside, which is 5% of the caisson width. Based on the analysis results and the recently conducted research results, a method was proposed to reduce the edge pressure that can be used in the design.
It is the intention of this study to synthesize the effects of double-edge cracks on the dynamic characteristics of a beam. The stiffness matrix is first determined for a Timoshenko beam containing two same-line edge cracks. The presented model is then developed for elements with two parallel double-sided cracks, considering the interaction between the stress fields of adjacent cracks. Finally, a finite element code is implemented, to examine the influence of depth and location of double cracks, on the natural frequencies of the damaged system.
Delaminations and cracks are common failures in structures. They may significantly reduce the stiffness of the structure and affect their vibration characteristics. In the present study, an analytical solution is developed to study the effect of an edge crack on the vibration characteristics of delaminated beams. The rotational spring model, the 'free mode' and 'constrained mode' assumptions in delamination vibration are adopted. This is the first study on how an edge crack affects the vibration characteristic of delaminated beams and new nondimensional parameters are developed accordingly. The crack may occur inside or outside the delaminated area and both cases are studied. Results show that the effect of delamination length and thickness-wise location on reducing the natural frequencies is aggravated by an increasing crack depth. The location of the crack also influences the effect of delamination, but such influence is different between crack occurring inside and outside the delaminated area. The difference of natural frequencies between 'free mode' and 'constrained mode' increases then decreases as the crack moves from one side of the delaminated region to the other side, peaking at the middle. The analytical results of this study can serve as the benchmark for FEM and other numerical solutions.
