Development of Initial Ship Design Analysis System Based on MRA (MRA 기반 선박 초기설계 해석 시스템 개발)

  • Tight integration between design and analysis processes and the data representation in the ship design application domain have been studied in this paper. Multi-Representation Architecture for design and analysis integration, proposed at Georgia Institute of Technology, has been carefully investigated for the application in the initial ship design stage. The MRA approach facilitates efficient generation of analysis models from the initial ship design data, thus reducing design lead time. Easy generation of analysis model is important because it allows quick analysis iteration under frequent design changes. The SMM, ABB and PBAM are defined for the analysis model of the typical ship structure. Only a part of the typical initial ship design data has been considered in the experimental implementation of the proposed approach. However, the prototype implementation shows that the application of MRA approach in the structural ship design domain is quite feasible. It is also contemplated that the same approach can be extended for other design and analysis views in the ship design domain.

  • For the development of system framework which provides multidisciplinary design environment, the integration of analysis codes written in various computer languages, the integration of CAD and DBMS, and the development of complex GUI are indispensible In this study, three different design frameworks which have been developed in Konkuk University with the aids of a company and other university, are compared and analyzed with respect to the analysis code integration method and the module interface technique. Moreover, the way to develop an efficient framework is proposed.

  • This paper presents an analysis of the design hypothesis of integration of parts from the viewpoint of axiomatic design. In parts integration, parts with the same functions are integrated into a single part. For the analysis, a motor actuator of an outside rear-view mirror with the type of an uncoupled design was used. The parts within the actuator are checked for determining the possibility of integration, by adopting the design hypothesis of integration of parts. The design hypothesis of integration of parts is based on a type of coupled design. However, the type of incomplete coupled design that resembles the type of an uncoupled design would be better than the type of a coupled design.

  • Tight integration between design and analysis process and data representation in the ship design application domain has been studied in this paper.   • Finite element analysis is very important in the design and analysis of mechanical engineering. The process of FEA encompasses shape modeling, mesh generation, matrix solving and post-processing. Some of these processes can be tightly integrated with the current software architectures and data sharing mode. However, complete integration of all the FEA process itself and the integration to the manufacturing processes is almost impossible in the current practice. The barriers to this problem are inconsistent data format and the enterprise-wise software integration technology. In this research, the information model based on STEP AP209 was chosen for handling finite element analysis data. The international standard for the FEA data can bridge the gap between design, analysis and manufacturing processes. The STEP-based FEA system can be further tightly integrated to the distributed software and database environment using CORBA technology. The prototype FEA system DICESS is implemented to verify the proposed concepts.

Toward the Efficient Integration of Travel Demand Analysis with Transportation Network Design Models (교통수요예칙과 가로망설계의 효율화)

  • In recent years, significant advances have been made enabling travel demand analysis and network design methods to be used as increasingly realistic evaluation tools. What has been lacking is the integration of travel demand analysis with network design models. This paper reviews some of advanced (integrated) modeling approaches and presents future research directions of integrated modeling system. To design urban transportation networks, it is argued that the travelers' free choice of mode, destination and route should be introduced into transportation network design procedure instead of assuming that trips from a zone to a workplace are fixed or deriving them in a normative procedure to achieve hypothetical system optima.

  • Multidisciplinary Design Optimization (MDO) is a new design approach, which aims to reduce the design cycle and the development cost, while improving the performance of the product. In order to develop a framework software where the multidisciplinary design is possible, several methods about the analysis codes integration, the analysis and optimization process management, and the software architecture, are proposed in this study. Centralized DataBase Management System (DBMS) is adopted. Both the Dynamic Link Library(DLL) and the File Interface are suggested and implemented as analysis codes integration methods. To efficiently manage the optimization process and the data flow, the Graphic Programming approach is introduced. The proposed integration methods are verified by two test case examples: Simple house design example and the aircraft wing design problem using three dimensional Panel Code.
