  • Since the 20th century, there has been a growing interest in the new concept of fractals, a combination of mathematics and art, and the attempt to study the creative spatial aspects of the concept is being made. The purpose of this research is to examine artistic characteristics of fractal dimension and then analyze the types of fractal dimensions expressed in the fashion. Previous literature on fractals and dimension, and visual data on art and fashion collected over the Internet were used for analysis. Fractal dimension refers to the spatial concept of structural dimension of geometrical self-similarity. An analysis of the types of fractals seen in fashion revealed spatial expansion, the repetition in continual figures, superposition accordant to different sizes, and shades of different shapes. The aesthetic characteristics of fractal dimension appearing in fashions were examined based on analyses of fractal dimension types; the inherent characteristics of self-similarity, superimposition, and atypicality were found. Results obtained from this study are expected to be used as basic materials for the application of the design of fractal dimension into various perspectives of fashion.

  • This paper presents an algorithm for the design of 2 dimension separable denominator digital filter(SDDF). The proposed algorithm is based on the reduced dimensional decomposition not only 2 dimension SDDF's but also of given 2 dimension specification. The frequency domain design of 2 dimension separable denominator digital filters based on the reduced dimensional decomposition can be realized when the given 2 dimension frequency specification are optimally decomposed into a pair of 1 dimension digital filter specification via singular value decomposition. the algorithm is computationally efficient and numerically stable. In case of the low pass filter, the approximation error of the proposed design algorithm is $e_{m}$=5.17, $e_{r1}$ =8.78, $e_{r2}$=7.34, while in case of band pass filter, the approximation error is $e_{m}$=13.00, $e_{r1}$=62.76, $e_{r2}$=62.7676.7676

  • Existing CAD systems do not provide advanced functions for automatic checking design and drafting errors in mechanical drawings. If the knowledge of checking in mechanical ddrsfting can be implemented into computers, CAD systems could automatically check for design and drafting errors. This paper describes a method for systematic checking of dimension errors. such as deficiency and/or redundancy of dimension input-errors in dimension figures and symbols, etc. The logic for finding dimensional errors is written by using a proccedural language. A geometric model and a topological-graph model are used in this method. Checking for deficiency and redundancy of dimensions is based upon graph Theory.

  • After the Industrialism, long-lasting issues about Post-Industrialism have closely been associated with our daily lives. The keyword of Post-Industrialism could be regarded as Immateriality, which is represented by service, Information and knowledge. In the Post-Industrial society, the major role of Post-Industrial design trend is a mediator to deliver the immateriality to users. Additionally, the maturity of technologies and product life cycle have leaded users to the design trend that is free from the technologies and functions of products. In this context, the most powerful trend of the Post-Industrial design could be "metaphor design" and "poetic dimension". The similarity of these two styles is situated in the romanticism -reflection of symbol and metaphor. However, the appearance of Apple's iMac in 1998, poetic dimension, which uses transparent plastic and colourful, pleasurable 'blobjects' has dominated the post-industrial design trend.

  • Contemporary architecture tends to deconstruct modern architecture based on rationalization just like reductionism and functionalism and secedes from it. It means change from mechanical to organic and ecological view of the world. According to these changes, consideration of a compositive relationship presented variety and complexity in architecture. Thus, the modern speculation based on rationalism cannot provide an alternative interpretation about complicated architectural phenomena. At this point in time, the purpose of this study is to investigate the possibilities of the fractal as an alternative tool of analysis and design in contemporary architecture. In this study, two major aspects are discussed. First, the fractal concepts just like 'fractal dimension', 'box-counting dimension' and 'fractal rhythm' can be applied to analysis in architecture. Second, the fractal formative principles just like 'scaling', 'superimposition trace', 'distortion' and 'repetition' can be applied to design in architecture. Fractal geometry similar to nature's patterned order can provide endless possibilities for analysis and design in architecture. Therefore further study of fractal geometry should be conducted synthetically from now on.

  • The purpose of this study is to find out the correlation between Truth(道) and dimension through the understanding of architectural point of value in the aspect of correlation between modern western thoughts and the thoughts of Truth and also through the reading of what kind of composite trend of the Truth can be seen in a Korea traditional house. This stduy takes the following procedure with reference books and traditional house that we have. 1) Making foundation for this study by finding out the fundamental meaning of the thoughts of Truth through the comparing and analyzing between modern western thoughts and the thoughts of Truth. 2) Reviewing the understanding of dimension in the thoughts of Truth. 3) Traslation of the organic correlation through the analysis of composition, placement and characteristics of dimension in a real present traditional Korea house. 4) Finding out the meaning of each dimension through the adaptation of the fundamental rules of nature of Jane(藏:store), Sang(生:life), Jang(長:long), Su(收obtain) to the dimension composite of a traditional house and concluding that the cyclical process in the oriental thoughts could be made.

  • Most manufacturing companies are trying to develop a competitive product by increasing the quality, shortening time to market and reducing the cost of a product. Collaborators related to the development of a new product want to confirm geometric forms and dimensions during the design process, as well as to verify dimensional errors of a product during the fabrication process. Objective of this paper is the development of a collaborative design and dimension verification system on the Internet. STEP files obtained from the design process are used for the design and dimension verification. Functions of the design and dimension verification modules are constructed over the ActiveX control using the visual C/sup ++/ and OpenGL. By using mark up functions over the Internet, collaborators check geometries, interferences, dimensional errors, human factors and form errors, as well as share their design ideas and opinions with XML rapidly and remotely. The usefulness of the developed system is confirmed through case studies.

  • In our country, the application of the design method of face to face dimension in wall-slab apartment has passed 10 years. So MC design method has fixed in the design step to some degree. In Design and Work Execution of House the exclusive area of the apartment was calculated by face to face dimension. And the term of face to face dimension was known broadly to clients, construction company, etc. But design method of face to face dimension is not to simply extend the room size so far as wall depth in design process but to ensure the actual space should be considered with efficient use and assembly of building components. That is to say, Design method of face to face dimension is not to be defined by design step but to be related with construction and maintenance. However in construction process the point of face to face design method was not understood even now. So the purpose of this study was to extract the effect and question of face to face design method in construction process by survey of actual condition of structure and construction quality, and compare this result with existing construction method. The following project of this study is to survey of actual condition of interior components such as gypsum board, windows & doors etc. Therefore this study is to induce architectural long-life through architectural standardization construction and component's exchange, and, by the subject of the study on Apartment to have design guideline and basis for joining part between Gypsumboard and windows.
