The Effects of Die Design and Die Series on the Surface Residual Stress of Cold Drawn Eutectoid Steel Wire (고탄소강 와이어의 냉간 인발시 다이 디자인과 다이 시리즈가 표면 잔류 응력에 미치는 영향)

  • In this study, the die design and die series on the surface residual stress of cold drawn eutectoid steel wire has been investigated. Test pieces were fabricated using die series with different mean and final reduction ratio. Surface residual stresses in the axial direction were measured by X-ray diffraction, Broker's 2-dimensional GADDS system. Results were compared with stress profiles which were calculated by 3D and 2D finite element simulation, Hibbitt's ABAQUS 6.4 program in Finite Element Analysis. By means of FEA method, optimal die shape considering delta-parameter were induced and applied in order to determine die sequence designs. Balance of the drawing stresses was also introduced to optimize die sequence.

  • In this study, the die design and die series on the surface residual stress of cold drawn eutectoid steel wire have been investigated.   • This paper decribes the development of computer-aided design of a very precise progressice die for lead frame of semiconductor chip. The approach to the system is based on knowledgr-based rules. Knowledge of fie이 experts. This system has been written in AutoLISP using AutoCAD ona personal computer and the I-DEAS drafting programming Language on the I-DEAS mater series drafting with on HP9000/715(64) workstation. Data exchange between AutoCAD and I-DEAS master series drafting is accomplished using DXF(drawing exchange format) and IGES(initial graphics exchange specification) files. This system is composed of six main modules, which are input and shape treatment, production feasibility check, strip layout, data conversion, die layout, and post processing modules. Based on Knowledge-based rules, the system considers several factors, such as V-notches, dimple, pad chamfer, spank, cavity punch, camber, coined area, cross bow, material and thickness of product, complexities of blank geometry and punch profiles, specifications of available presses, and the availability of standard parts. As forming processes and the die design system using 2D geometry recognition are integrated with the technology of process planning, die design, and CAE analysis, the standardization of die part for lead frames requiting a high precision process is possible. The die layout drawing generated by the die layout module s displayed in graphic form. The developed system makes it possible to design and manufacture lead frame of a semiconductor more efficiently.

A Study on the Springback Characteristics and Bracket Formabilities Enhancement of Aluminum Alloy Sheets for Autobody Application (차체용 알루미늄합금 판재의 스프링백 특성과 브래킷 성형성 향상에 관한 연구)

  • This paper deals with development of brackets by using aluminum alloy sheets which is indispensable for weight reduction of autobody. The press formability of aluminum alloy sheet is estimated by means of tensile test, V bending test, sample manufacturing test and photograph of microstructure. The results show that the elongation, strength, work hardening exponent, plastic anisotropy coefficient of Al 6***series are better than those of Al 5***series, but for general press formability, Al 5***series are better than Al 6***series due to lower yield strength. Since most of mechanical properties of aluminum sheet are generally inferior to those of cold-rolled steel sheet, shape fixability and press formability of aluminum sheet are very poor. For making components of autobody by use of die for steel sheet application, it is essential that die should be nodified for least bending and stretching. With the modified die for aluminum, it could be possible to make brackets, the component of autobody. Microstructure of Al 5***series has fine grain and small the 2nd phase and that of Al 6***series has relatively coarse grain. Therefore, it seems that fine grain and small the 2nd phase of Al 5***series is one of the factor of lower yield strength, resistance to stamping work, formation of Luder's line.

  • A simple kinematically admissible velocity field is proposed to drtermine the final-stage extrusion load and the average extruded length in the square-die forward extrusion of non-axisymmetric bars from circular billets. The proposed velocity field is applied to the square-die extrusion of trochoidal gear-shaped bars and rectangular-shaped bars, the profile function of a rectangular being approximated by using a Fourier series. Experiments have been carried out with hard solder billets at room temperature. The theoretical predictions of the extrusion load are in good agreements with the experimental results and there is generally reasonable agreements in average extruded length between theory and experiment.

Approach to the system is based on the knowledge-based rules. Knowledge for the system is formulated from plasticity theories, experimental results and the empirical knowledge of field experts. This system has been written in AutoLISP on the AutoCAD using a personal computer and in I-DEAS Drafting Programming Language on the I-DEAS Master Series Drafting with Workstation, HP9000/715(64) and tool kit on the ESPRIT. Transference of data among AutoCAD, I-DEAS Master Series Drafting, and ESPRIT is accomplished by DXF(drawing exchange format) and IGES(initial graphics exchange specification) methods. This system is composed of six modules, which are input and shape treatment, production feasibility check, strip-layout, die-layout, modelling, and post-processor modules. The system can design process planning and Die design considering several factors and generate NC data automatically according to drawings of die-layout module. As forming process of high precision product and die design system using 2-D geometry recognition are integrated with technology of process planning, die design, and CAE analysis, standardization of die part in die design and process planning of high pression product for semiconductor lead frame is possible to set. Results carried out in each module will provide efficiencies to the designer and the manufacturer of lead frame, semiconductor.

  • This paper reviews the rules for optimizing die design and the process variables such as die shoulder radius and punch to die clearance, which are important factors in drawing the sheet metal without failures during deep drawing. To find the optimum conditions for improving deep drawability, a series of the experiments are performed, and the wall thinning and thickening variations are investigated in each process of deep drawing for a complex cylindrical shell. From the results of this proposed experiment, the optimum values of process variables are examined and discussed, and the usefulness of the present suggestion is shown.

  • The progressive die performs a series of fundamental sheet metal working, particularly this study regards to develop the center carrier feeding type die for thick sheet metal(SS41, 2.5mm) production that is a specific division. In order to prevent defect on the production, the analysis of production part, optimum design of strip process layout, die design and die making and tryout etc. are necessary. In this study, we designed and predicted a progressive die of multi stages by wide collected data base and computer aided method.
