A Study on Reliability Improvement of a Fault Tolerant Digital Governor (내고장성 디지털 조속기의 신뢰성 향상에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper, fault tolerant digital governor is designed to realize ceaseless controlling and to improve the reliability of control system. Designed digital governor huts duplex I/O module and triplex CPU module and also 2 out of 3 voting algorithm and self diagnostic ability. The Processor module of the system(SIDG-3000) is developed based on 32 Bit industrial microprocessor, which guaranteed high quality of the module and SRAM for data also SRAM for command are separated. The process module also includes inter process communication function and power back up function (SRAM for back-up). System reliability is estimated by using the model of Markov process. It is shown that the reliability of triplex system in mission time can be dramatically improved compared with a single control system Designed digital governor system is applied after modelling of the steam turbine generator system of Buk-Cheju Thermal Power Plant. Simulation is carried out to prove the effectiveness of the designed digital governor system

  • In this paper author develops digital governor for medium speed diesel engine. The system is composed of MPU main control module RPM measuring module PWM driving module driver module for F.O. rack drive motor key pad and display module. Experiment results of speed control on 6cyl 1800pm 250kw Daewoo MAN diesel erigine were satisfied for design speci-fications and system could be developed for commercial usage after taking more experiments and endurance tests under various environments.

  • In this paper the recent studies of digital governor for the Diesel Engine in Korea is summarized and that of usage in the marine and land field as of power plant is analyzed for the interest and development of the enterprise with relation with relation to this industrial part. Our investigation shows that until now the studies on the digitl governor are mainly carried out in KMU and land usage for the power plants is increased gradually because reliance of digital governor is improved and system for the maneuvering and monitoring the plants is computerized.

  • In this study, turbine speed control algorithm is studied for Buk-Jeju steam turbine power plant and also digital governor system is designed for speed control of steam turbine in power plant. By using duplex I/O module, triplex CPU module, 2 out of 3 voting algorithm and adding self diagnostic ability, the reliability of the designed digital governor system can be acquired satisfactorily. Designed and manufactured digital governor system is implemented in a pilot steam turbine plant of 0.3kw output power Installed in Korea Maritime University. After a series of experiment the reliability and availability is confirmed and also stable operation is achieved.

  • This paper present a methods for performance evaluation of digital governor and we treat the way to reduce the trial and error when the developed digital governing system is applied to station. The parameters of the model are estimated using input-output data, the model adjustment technique and a genetic algorithm(GA). To verify validity of the completed model, the comparision model and real output signals have been carried out. The developed digital governing system is applied to Sumjingang hydro-power plant, Korea Hydro Nuclear Power Corporation, it has replaced mechanical governing system. Test was performed in order to demonstrate the performance evaluation of the digital governor parameters.

  • This thesis aims at developing of a digita governor system for the steam turbine generator on the Buk-Cheju Thermal Power Plant of KEPCO. The steam turbine generator of the Buk-Cheju Thermal Power Plant is modelled. As a hardware platform, a triple modular system which is fitted 32-bit microprocessor of Motorola company to perform the digital governor system is used. The parameters of the PID controller algorithm in the speed control block is tuned on the basis of the estimated model.

  • Recent marine propulsion diesel engines tend to become slower in speed and longer in stroke for the higher engine efficiency, and in these long stroke and slow speed engines the digital governors are highly recommended to be used. But, in the present digital governors only the feedback of the engine rpm-signal is used for the engine speed control. If the load torque of the engine can be measured or estimated and the torque feedback loop is added to the present digital governor, it is expected that the speed control performance of the digital governor will be highly improved. In this paper, a new method is proposed to estimate the load torque of the diesel engine from the measured signals of fuel oil and rpm. And it is also suggested that the Kalman filter can be used for the estimation of engine torque.

  • The grid frequency is controlled cooperatively by the governor of the Turbine-Generator and the automatic generation controller(AGC) of the KPX(Korea Power Exchange). It is a basic requirement that the reliability of the governor is verified to enhance the power system stability but it is not easy to confirm the response characteristics of the governor because all generators are operated in the grid system that has the constant voltage and frequency. Therefore, it is necessary to study a new test method in order to examine the governor dynamic characteristic in the similar fault conditions. A study has shown that it is verified to simulate the turbine-generator power control system, the governor response characteristic under limited conditions and contribution of AGC with the gas turbine generator simulation model as well as demonstrate the dynamic response of the governor with the developed governor dynamic characteristic tester based on digital controller while the turbine-generator is connected to the grid system. This tester is constructed by the built-in functions of the turbine-generator main controller. In this treatise, the theoretical background, development method and the results of both simulations and demonstrations are described as another way to verify the turbine-generator governor dynamic characteristics.

  • Governors control the revolution speed of heat engines such as diesel engines, steam turbines and gas turbines. Precise and prompt tests for the control performances of governors are essential both in governors' manufacturing processes and in governors' maintenance processes. In the conventional governor test systems controlled by analog type electronic controllers, the incorporation of heat engine's dynamics to the test system have been considered very difficult to realize. This study suggests a new governor test system controlled by a digital controller using a personal computer. The application of the digital controller to the test system instead of the analog type electronic controller have brought about the following advancements; (1) heat engine's dynamics could be implemented easily in the test system, (2) automatic test data acquisition both in steady state and in transient state enables us to save test time and to enhance the reliability of the tests.

  • A digital Governor (GOV) has been developed for being used for a Francis hydro turbine, and the validity of the GOV has been tested. As for the hardware system for the GOV, we purchased a basic digital control system that already had proven its reliability in the power industry. We developed a set of new GOV software and integrated it with the hardware system, and finally verified the performance of the whole GOV system. For the human-machine interface (HMI), we configured and implemented appropriate graphic interfaces for the turbine operations. This paper describes the major GOV control functions, approaches we took in developing the GOV control logics, and the validity tests and the results.
