  • Existing efforts to reduce total egress time actually focused on reducing travel time. However, consideration to reduce perception time or response time was insufficient although the ratio of travel time is one-third of total egress time and situations which the safety cannot be ensured by only reducing travel time were aroused. Therefore, the concept of disaster information, which could reduce both perception time and response time got attention To analyze the effect of disaster information on occupant behaviour, this study identified a relationship between 10 major disaster information and 3 occupant behaviour factors in terms of reducing egress time. By referring the relationship, this study conducted an virtual egress experiment with survey on 4 cases, the elderly, intellectual disabled, hearing disabled and visual disabled, to identify disaster information which reduce total egress time effectively. Finally, by analyzing the experiment result, this study proposed the process of disaster information effect on occupant behaviour as complementing insufficient occupant behaviour to ensure the minimum level of safety and maximizing relatively high occupant behaviour to ensure enough level of safety. The results are expected to account for relationship between disaster information and occupant behaviour with more explanatory power in terms of egress time. With further studies of disaster information and group behaviour, these series of studies could provide basic references for disaster information and occupant behaviour.

  • Accidents involving wheelchair accessible vehicles have been frequently occurring since the introduction of these vehicles in the Korean market. However, detailed regulations, which are required to ensure the safety of the wheel-chair occupants, are unavailable. In this study, both domestic and international vehicle safety regulations are analyzed in order to select the regulations that are similar to the transportation environment of Korea. Sled tests with an actual wheel-chair accessible vehicle were carried out based on the analyzed regulation requirements, as well as the values of the HIC, belt loads, dummy movements, and wheelchair movements. The test results showed that the movements of the dummy and the wheelchair did not meet the criteria of the regulation due to the improper positioning of the restraint systems.

  • Owing to increase of the large-scaled, high-raised and complexed building construction, the escape design of the building became very important issue to insure the safety of occupant. Specially, it is demanded to have building escape regulation considering for inconvenient movers such as disables elders pregnant women. However, building regulations for inconvenient movers are divided into "Regulation of Escape and Fire-prevention of Building" and "Act on the Promotion and Guarantee of Access for the Disabled, the Aged and Pregnant Women to Facilities and Information". But, for the escape security of inconvenient movers, the connection of each regulation are necessary. So this study suggested the improvement direction of the building escape regulation considering inconvenient movers through the compared analysis on the "Regulation of Escape and Fire-prevention of Building" and "Act on the Promotion and Guarantee of Access for the Disabled, the Aged and Pregnant Women to Facilities and Information".

  • The health and safety of elderly and disabled patients who cannot live alone is an important issue. Timely detection of sudden events is necessary to protect these people, and anomaly detection in smart homes is an efficient approach to extracting such information. In the real world, there is a causal relationship between an occupant's behaviour and the order in which appliances are used in the home. Bayesian networks are appropriate tools for assessing the probability of an effect due to the occurrence of its causes, and vice versa. This paper defines different subsets of random variables on the basis of sensory data from a smart home, and it presents an anomaly detection system based on various models of Bayesian networks and drawing upon these variables. We examine different models to obtain the best network, one that has higher assessment scores and a smaller size. Experimental evaluations of real datasets show the effectiveness of the proposed method.

  • The concept of Smart home is receiving a huge attention as a future living environment because of its advantages for elderly and disabled to maintain their quality of life. Smart home is a place equipped with integration of technology and services and closely intertwined with occupant's lifestyle. Therefore it is critical to consider the user's actual needs for ensuring satisfaction. However despite growing researches on user values for smart home, there have been few studies clearly categorizing smart home service and stating user values depending on characteristics of service. Thus, the aim of this research is to classify smart home services on user's perspective, and reveal user values for each smart home services. Through the in-depth literature review, we elicited technology-related user values and service-related user values, and state classification for smart home service. Also the relationship between user values and each smart home services were revealed. The results of this research should help to reflect user's actual needs for designing smart home services.
