  • This paper analyzed distribution network reliability related with the increment of outages and duration time according to distribution facilities increasing. KEPCO introduced distribution automation system in 1998 which could recognize outage section by remotely monitoring the fault current and reduce the blackout area by remotely controlling distribution switches. As the result of this outage time reduction using distribution automation system, the minimum distribution automation rate was fined out in this paper on the base of analyzing diverse data and how many switches were used in distribution system to improve distribution network reliability at the situation of distribution facilities increasing. This result can be used as the model that an overseas utility company applies distribution automation system in the future.

  • KEPCO enforces the development about distribution automation technology continuously for 10 years and reached in fair level present. And distribution automation system was constructed actively meantime, its establishment will be completed 100% at late 2002s. Distribution automation system had been developed also in Japan, U.S.A and Europe etc. In japan, distribution automation system was established all business office to whole county. Lately, there is examining distribution automation expansion actively in developing country including China. Therefore, we try to analyze domestic and foreign technological variance as that examine foreign distribution automation trend and the development direction of domestic distribution automation technology forward.

  • This paper presents the design and development of a scaled down physical model for power Distribution Automation (DA) system simulation. The developed DA system simulator is useful in providing hands-on experience to utility engineers / managers to familiarize with the DA system and gain confidence in managing the power distribution system from the computer aided distribution control center. The distribution automation system simulator can be effectively used to carry out further research work in this area. This also helps the undergraduate and graduate students to understands the power distribution automation technology in the laboratory environment. The developed DA simulator has become an integral part of a distribution automation lab in the Electrical Engineering Department at Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur in India.

  • In this paper, problems and solutions are proposed for applying IEC 61850 to Distribution Automation System(DAS). Communication protocol integration in power automation system have issued by IEC standards, IEC 61850 of them has researched for applying IEC 61850 to many areas of power system in spite of that it was made for substation automation system. Especially, DAS is just about to apply IEC 61850 by communication network change from serial to ethernet although DNP 3.0 is used. But it's impossible to apply directly IEC 61850 to DAS by difference of environment which unfixed wide area and separated nodes in power distribution system unlike concept of IEC 61850 is made by Substation Automation System(SAS) environment of limited space. Thus, this paper proposed applications of three types which conceptual, practical, and future to consider problems and solutions when apply IEC 61850 to Ethernet based DAS.

  • In this paper, we first introduce our own binary CDMA technology. Then we propose a wireless distribution automation system using the binary CDMA technology. The major research items are the binary CDMA distribution automation system, piconet configuration for remote control and monitoring, scheduling for the transmission and reception of data, and ways of applying encryption to protect wireless packet. To verify the possibility of applying wireless transmission to the distribution automation system, we experiment the implemented system in terms of the transmission rate by applying it to a real-world environment.

  • Currently, Studies on improving the reliability of power supply is becoming an important issue because of the increase in demand of the electric power system. Therefore necessity of automation in distribution system is increasing day by day. However, a measured voltage data from FRTU of distribution automation system is incorrect because of installation space limits. Therefore there is a need of system analysis method by considering the characteristics of the distribution system. For a distribution system, applying the power flow method of transmission system has some problems, as distribution is radial system and it has unbalanced load. Therefore power flow by considering the characteristics of the distribution system have been studied. Existing power flow analysis of the distribution system has different methods like direct analysis method, backward/forward sweep method, modified method of newton raphson etc. In this paper, an improved power flow analysis method based on backward/forward sweep method is proposed in order to efficiently operate the distribution automation system. The proposed method of power flow has been verified through the result of case study.

  • This paper presents benefits of multi-agent system approach and its application to the distribution automation system. Special attention is devoted to the description of hardware and communication platform used to upgrade the conventional distribution automation system structure. Service restoration of primary distribution system is selected as an example of the multi-agent system application. Application of the algorithm for multi-agent based service restoration technique is disclosed in detail. Real field test in Gochang test center of KEPCO has been performed to establish the feasibility of proposed technique.

  • It is impossible to take the instant action in the distribution system When fault occures in a substation because operation of the substation and the distribution system are separated. However the power system automation has been studying about unity operation and co-operation between SCADA and DAS(Distribution Automation System). In this paper proposes a new algorithm of efficiency restoration using a outage load switching to a healthy MTR a fault occurrence at a MTR in united system between DAS and SCADA. In addtion, proposed algorithm includes a outage restoration method which keeps MTR optimal capacity with reorganization of distribution network in case it can not restore outage state loads caused by shortage of healthy MTR remain capacity. In case that proposed sequence still can not complete restoration, this paper suggests a efficiency outage restoration with objective function included priority in outage loads. In the case studies, the proposed algorithm have been verified in 2 MTR and 3 MTR substation
