  • The dynamic stiffness matrix is formulated for an axially loaded slender double-beam element in which both beams are homogeneous, prismatic and of the same length by directly solving the governing differential equations of motion of the double-beam element. The Bernoulli-Euler beam theory is used to define the dynamic behaviors of the beams and the effects of the mass of springs and axial force are taken into account in the formulation. The dynamic stiffness method is used for calculation of the exact natural frequencies and mode shapes of the double-beam systems. Numerical results are given for a particular example of axially loaded double-beam system under a variety of boundary conditions, and the exact numerical solutions are shown for the natural frequencies and normal mode shapes. The effects of the axial force and boundary conditions are extensively discussed.

  • The existing Double T-Beams have been positively constructed in America and Europe due to their elegant appearance and simple section shapes. However, there are some problems; thery are relatively weak in the structural resistance, and need to use somewhat limited and complicated construction methods. In this paper, new composite beams made of concrete and steel are proposed, by taking adventage of their merits in an effort to solve thess controversial problems. In addition, feasibility is presented in developing composite Double T-Beams by introducing pre-stressing forces as well to enhance structural safety.

  • This thesis is a study on behavior for anchorage zone in prestressed double T beam using strut-tie model. Stress conditions of Anchorage zone in prestressed double T beam are very disturbed because large concentrated forces act on relatively small areas. Hence, anchorage zone must be considered in Design of prestressed double T beam. If irrational design or irrational construction be conducted, that may lose stability in capacity as structure. In current design practice, certain parts of structure are designed with extreme accuracy, while anchorage zone in prestressed double T beam is designed using common sense, and experience. Therefore, it is generally very conservative. For that reason, logical, reasonable concept and accuracies are desired at design of anchorage zone in prestressed double T beam. Strut-tie method satisfies those desires. In this thesis, anchorage zone in prestressed double T beam is analyzed by considering prestressing forces. Strut-tie model is constructed based on principle stress trajectory obtained from 3D-finite element analysis in anchorage zone, and amounts of reinforcement be obtained. Results of analysis are compared with the way used in current design practice, and this thesis presents that strut-tie model can be an economical design than current design methods without losing the degree of safety.

  • In this paper a dynamic behavior of a double-cracked cnatilver beam with a tip mass and the moving mass is presented. Based on the Euler-Bernoulli beam theory, the equation of motion is derived by using Lagrange's equation. The influences of the moving mass, a tip mass and double cracks have been studied on the dynamic behavior of a cantilever beam system by numerical method. The cracks section are represented by the local flexibility matrix connecting two undamaged beam segments. ,Therefore, the cracks are modelled as a rotational spring. Totally, as a tip mass is increased, the natural frequency of cantilever beam is decreased. The position of the crack is located in front of the cantilever beam, the frequencies of a double-cracked cantilever beam presents minimum frequency.

  • In this study, free vibration analysis of double through-the-width split beam is studied based on the author's earlier work. Each segment which constructs double through-the-width split beam is considered as Timoshenko beam. The effect of coupling between longitudinal and transverse vibration on the natural frequencies of split beams is considered. Data acquisition and modal test of double split beam for clamped-free boundary condition are carried out. Experimental and numerical results obtained by ANSYS were compared with the calculated data by present theory and their comparisons give good agreement with one another. The influences of the size and location of double split, shear deformation, and boundary conditions on the natural frequencies are demonstrated for illustrative purpose. Effects of double split on the dynamic characteristics of beams can be used to detect the size and the location of damages in structures.

  • In order to study the failure mode and seismic behavior of the interior-joint in steel traditional-style buildings, a single beam-column joint and a double beam-column joint were produced according to the relevant building criterion of ancient architectural buildings and the engineering instances, and the dynamic horizontal loading test was conducted by controlling the displacement of the column top and the peak acceleration of the actuator. The failure process of the specimens was observed, the bearing capacity, ductility, energy dissipation capacity, strength and stiffness degradation of the specimens were analyzed by the load-displacement hysteresis curve and backbone curve. The results show that the beam end plastic hinge area deformed obviously during the loading process, and tearing fracture of the base metal at top and bottom flange of beam occurred. The hysteresis curves of the specimens are both spindle-shaped and plump. The ultimate loads of the single beam-column joint and double beam-column joint are 48.65 kN and 70.60 kN respectively, and the equivalent viscous damping coefficients are more than 0.2 when destroyed, which shows the two specimens have great energy dissipation capacity. In addition, the stiffness, bearing capacity and energy dissipation capacity of the double beam-column joint are significantly better than that of the single beam-column joint. The ductility coefficients of the single beam-column joint and double beam-column joint are 1.81 and 1.92, respectively. The cracks grow fast when subjected to dynamic loading, and the strength and stiffness degradation is also degenerated quickly.

  • This study aims at developing the double cantilever beam (DCB) method in order to calculate the bridging stress distribution in polycrystalline aluminas with different grain sizes. In the already existing DCB methods the measured crack opening displacement (COD) in coarse-grained aluminas deviates generally from the calcula-ted one because of the grain-interface bridging in the crack wake. In the current DBC method developed in the present study the effect of the bridging stress was considered in the DCB analysis. whereas the only effect of applied point-loading at the end of DCB specimen was taken into account in the existing DCB analysis The crack closure due to bridging stress was calculated using the power-law relation and the theoretical model developed in Part I of the present paper as bridging stress function and then compared analytically. The limitations of the current DCB methods such as specimen dimensions applied loads and elastic modulus were discussed in detail to provide a reliability of the newly developed DCB analysis for the bridging stress distribu-tion in polycrystalline aluminas.

  • It is the intention of this study to synthesize the effects of double-edge cracks on the dynamic characteristics of a beam. The stiffness matrix is first determined for a Timoshenko beam containing two same-line edge cracks. The presented model is then developed for elements with two parallel double-sided cracks, considering the interaction between the stress fields of adjacent cracks. Finally, a finite element code is implemented, to examine the influence of depth and location of double cracks, on the natural frequencies of the damaged system.

  • In this paper we studied about the effect of the double cracks on the dynamic behavior of a simply supported beam. The equation of motion is derived by using Lagrange's equation and analyzed by numerical method. The simply supported beam is modeled by the Euler-Bernoulli beam theory. The crack section is represented by a local flexibility matrix connecting three undamaged beam segments. The influences of the crack depth and position of each crack on the vibration mode and the natural frequencies of a simply supported beam are analytically clarified. The theoretical results are also validated by a comparison with experimental measurements.

  • This paper proposes a double cantilever sandwich-beam method for evaluating the frequency dependence of material dynamic characteristics. The flexural vibration of a double cantilever sandwich-beam specimen with a partially inserted rubber layer was studied using a finite element simulation in combination with the sine-sweep test. Quadratic relationships of dynamic elastic modulus and material loss factor of rubbers with frequency were quantitatively suggested employing the least square error method.
