Empirical Study of Dynamic Corporate Governance: New Evidence from Chinese-listed SMEs

  • Purpose - This study first explores the possible dynamic relationship between ownership structure and firm performance using a panel of 4,900 Chinese-listed small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) from 1999 to 2012. Research design, data, and methodology - We address this issue through a dynamic panel model using a method of moments (GMM) technique and dynamic simultaneous equations to alleviate the potential endogenous problem: unobserved heterogeneity, simultaneity, and dynamic endogeneity. Results - Under the framework of dynamic endogeneity, firm performance has a significantly positive influence on ownership, but not vice versa. Ownership and performance can be explained by their owned lagged values, respectively. Moreover, intertemporal endogeneity exists among ownership, investment, and performance through the application of system dynamic equations, which implies that the relationship among ownership structure, investment, and firm performance is dynamic by nature. Conclusions - This study also significantly contributes to a better understanding of dynamic corporate governance by providing further empirical evidence from the largest capital market in the Asian region.

Mediating Effect of Operational Capabilities on the Dynamic Capabilities and Performance of Korean SMEs (동적역량과 기업성과에 대한 운영역량의 매개효과 분석)

  • This study examines the relationship between dynamic capabilities and operational capabilities as well as investigates the effect of these capabilities and performance. We also test these relationships on two industry groups categorized into high-tech industries and low-tech industries. We collected 221 firms' data from a questionnaire survey of small and medium-sized enterprises in Korea. Empirical results show that dynamic capabilities and operational capabilities influence performance positively. In high-tech industries dynamic capabilities directly affect performance while marketing capabilities appear to mediate the relationship between dynamic capabilities and performance. Dynamic capabilities show no significant effect on performance for low-tech industries; however, operational capabilities do mediate the relationship between dynamic capabilities and performance.

  • The importance of entering the international market for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) has been continuously emphasized. As a way to overcome these factors, prior studies have increased interest in dynamic capability. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of entrepreneurial orientation, learning orientation, and dynamic capability on their international performance of SMEs. Drawing on an extensive review of the literature on dynamic capability view and internationalization, hypotheses are developed and tested using a sample of 214 SMEs in South Korea. Structural equation modeling was applied. As a result of analysis, first, dynamic capability has a significant effect on international performance. Second, entrepreneurial orientation has significant influence on dynamic capability. Third, learning orientation has significant influence on dynamic capability. Lastly, slack resource was found to moderate the relationship between dynamic capability and international performance. The results indicate that their entrepreneurial orientation and learning orientation ware driver of their dynamic capability. and that their dynamic capability was significant driver of their international performance. In the final conclusion, implications and limitations of research and suggestions for future research are discussed.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the predictive effects of intuition, business analytic, networking capabilities on innovation performance. The data was collected using a cross-sectional quantitative survey. A total of 292 useable responses were collected from Thai Processed Food Exporters (TPFE). The findings also indicated that the hypothesized relationships between the independent and dependent variables fit the empirical data. Specifically, it is revealed that strategic intuition, business analytic capabilities, network-based capabilities and dynamic capabilities had a direct effect on dynamic strategy. They also had statistically significant direct and indirect effects on dynamic performance. Based on the results of the correlation test, the researchers developed a dynamic capability model for the development of the dynamic performance of the operators, which included concepts, principles, methods, tools and guidelines. Furthermore, the impacts of intuition, business analytic, networking capabilities on dynamic strategy are also examined in this study. It makes a considerable contribution to the existing literature on dynamic strategy of TPFE, particularly in regards to explaining the performance.

  • This study was conducted to find out effect of dynamic balance performance in normal adult when obscuring vision in half of the both eye and to prepare the basic data treatment of brain damage patient with visual field deficit. The subject for this study included 40 healthy right-handed and 20 left-handed were dynamic balance performance when obscuring vision in half of the both eye. who age from 20 to 30 years in normal adult without neurosurgical orthopedic, performance balance disability or other medical disorders. Of these individuals 20 right-handed and 20 left-handed were executed dynamic balance performance when obscuring vision in half of the both eye. individuals of right, left-handed were executed dynamic performance when obscuring vision in half of the both eye measure with a Balance Performance Monitor (BPM) Data print Software Version 5.3. In other to determine the statitsical significance of the result, instrumentation was used to t-test, chisquare of the SAS(Strategic Application Software) The result of the study were that: 1) Significant differences in LOS were found right-handed and left-handed subject when dynamic performance without obscuring vision and obscuring vision(p<0.05). 2) Significant differences in LOS were founded left-handed when dynamic performance were executed obscuring vision and without obscuring vision(p<0.05). 3) Significant differences in LOS were founded right-handed when dynamic performance were executed obscuring vision and without obscuring vision(p<0.05).

Effect of noise barrier on aerodynamic performance of high-speed train in crosswind

  • A three-dimensional aerodynamic model and a vehicle dynamics model are established to investigate the effect of noise barrier on the dynamic performance of a high-speed train running on an embankment in crosswind in this paper. Based on the developed model, flow structures around the train with and without noise barrier are compared. Effect of the noise barrier height on the train dynamic performance is studied. Then, comparisons between the dynamic performance indexes of the train running on the windward track and on the leeward track are made. The calculated results show that the noise barrier has significant effects on the structure of the flow field around the train in crosswind and thus on the dynamic performance of the high-speed train. The dynamic performance of the train on the windward track is better than that on the leeward track. In addition, various heights of the noise barrier will have different effects on the train dynamic performance. The dynamic performance indexes keep decreasing with the increase of the noise barrier height before the height reaches a certain value, while these indexes have an inverse trend when the height is above this value. These results suggest that optimization on the noise barrier height is possible and demonstrate that the designed noise barrier height of the existing China Railway High-speed line analysed in this article is reasonable from the view point of the flow field structure and train dynamic performance although the noise barrier is always designed based on the noise-related standard.

A Study on Seismic Performance Improvement of Nuclear Piping System through Dynamic Absorber (동흡진기를 사용한 원전 배관계 내진성능 상향에 대한 연구)

  • In this study, the dynamic absorber and the damper are applied to improve the seismic performance of the piping system, and their quantitative effects on the piping system performance are examined. For this purpose, the response performances of piping system applied with the dynamic absorber/damper are compared with those of the original piping system. Firstly, the frequency response analyses of the piping system with the presence or the absence of dynamic absorber/damper are performed and these results are compared. It has been shown that the maximum acceleration response per the frequency of the piping system is considerably reduced by installing the dynamic absorber and the damper. Secondly, the seismic responses of the piping systems with and without dynamic absorber/damper are compared. As a result of the numerical analyses, it is confirmed that key responses are reduced by 17%-63% due to the installation of the dynamic absorber and damper. Finally, as a result of the seismic performance evaluation, it is confirmed that the HCLPF (High Confidence of Low Probability of Failure) seismic performances are increased by 1.22 to 2.70 times with respect to the failure modes with an aid of the dynamic absorber and damper.

Comparison of the Effects of Dynamic Postural Stability Training Versus Soft Ankle Bracing on Multiple Hop Performance in Participants With Functional Ankle Instability (기능적 발목 불안정성을 가진 대상자에게 동적 자세 안정성 훈련과 연성 발목 보조기가 다중 한발 뛰기 수행에 미치는 효과 비교)

  • Background: The multiple hop test is an active performance test that has been commonly used to assess individuals with functional ankle instability. Previous studies have suggested that insufficiency of dynamic postural stability and passive stability during dynamic activities can have an influence on performance in the multiple hop test. However, no study has investigated the effects of dynamic postural stability training and ankle bracing on multiple hop test performance in individuals with functional ankle instability. Objects: The purpose of this study was to compare the immediate effects of dynamic postural stability training versus ankle bracing in the performance of the multiple hop test for participants with functional ankle instability. Methods: Twenty-nine participants with functional ankle instability who scored below 24 in the Cumberland Ankle Instability Tool were selected. The participants were randomly divided into two groups: a dynamic postural stability training group (n1=14) and an ankle bracing control group ($n_2=15$). The multiple hop tests were performed before and after applying each intervention. Dynamic postural stability training was performed using visual-feedback-based balance-training equipment; participants in this group were asked to perform a heel raise in a standing position while watching the centering of their forefoot pressure to prevent excessive ankle inversion. Ankle bracing was applied in the control group. Results: When comparing the pre- and post-intervention period for both groups, both methods significantly improved the results of the multiple hop test (p<.05). However, no significant differences were shown between the dynamic postural stability training and ankle bracing groups (p>.05). Conclusion: Both dynamic postural stability training and ankle bracing showed significant improvement (2.85 seconds and 2.05 seconds, respectively) in test performance. Further study is needed to determine the long-term effects of dynamic postural stability training and to determine whether insufficient dynamic postural stability is a causative factor for functional ankle instability.

Effect of Mechanical Damping and Electrical Conductivity on the Dynamic Performance of a Novel Electromagnetic Engine Valve Actuator

  • We investigate the effect of mechanical damping and electrical conductivity on the dynamic performance of a new electromagnetic engine valve actuator that employs a permanent magnet. The key dynamic performance factors are the transition time and the landing velocity of the armature. Two-dimensional dynamic finite element analyses are performed to simulate a coupled system. The results show that mechanical damping and electrical conductivity have similar effects on the dynamic performance of the engine valve actuator. Subsequently, it is possible to replace the role of mechanical damping by controlling the electrical conductivity through the thickness and number of steel core laminations.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the role of IT-enabled dynamic capability in the relationship between intellectual capital and innovation performance under Industry 4.0. We approach the intellectual capital from the perspective of the resource-based view and define the components of intellectual capital as human capital, social capital, and organizational capital. On the other hand, the IT-based dynamic capability means that the information technology and the utilization ability of the enterprise are combined to overcome the turbulent environment. The empirical results showed that the IT-enabled dynamic capabilities mediated the relationship between intellectual capital and innovation performance as it revealed in theory. And in terms of practical implications, we found the importance of an organization's information technology ability to effectively utilize intangible resources for organizational performance.
