Fabrication of ZnO Nanorod-based Electrochemical Luminescence Cells and Fundamental Luminescence Properties (산화아연 나노로드 전극을 이용한 전기화학발광 셀의 제작 및 발광특성 고찰)

  • We report Zinc oxide (ZnO) nanorods synthesis and electrochemical luminescence (ECL) cell fabrication. The ECL cell was fabricated using the electrode of ZnO nanorods and Ru(II) complex ($Ru(bpy)_3{^{2+}}$) as a luminescence materials. The fabricated ECL cell is composed of F-doped $SnO_2$ (FTO) glass/ Ru(II)/ZnO nanorods/FTO glass. The highest intensity of the emitting light was obtained at the wavelength of ~620 nm which corresponds to dark-orange color. At a bias voltage of 3V, the measured ECL efficiencies were 5 $cd/m^2$ for cell without ZnO nanorod, 145 $cd/m^2$ for ZnO nanorods-$5{\mu}m$, 208 $cd/m^2$ for ZnO nanorods-$8{\mu}m$ and 275 $cd/m^2$ for ZnO nanorods-$10{\mu}m$, respectively. At a bias voltage of 3.5V, the use of ZnO nanorods increases ECL intensities by about 3 times compared to the typical ECL cell without the use of ZnO nanorods.

  • The electrochemical reduction and electrogenerated chemiluminescence (ECL) of $Ru(bpy)_3^{2+}-S_2O_8^{2-}\;in\;CH_3CN-H_2O$ solution were studied in the presence of sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) as an anionic surfactant. SDS enhanced the ECL and the fluorescence intensities and lengthened the duration of ECL due to the solubilization of reactants and possibly to the stabilization of ECL intermediates in the SDS micellar environment.

  • 전기화학발광(ECL) 시스템은 높은 감도와 넓은 선형동작영역을 가지므로 분석화학에서 넓게 연구 되고 있다. 그러나 포토멀티플러, 광섬유와 플루오르메터로 구성된 ECL 검출 시스템은 크기가 크고, 전력소모가 많으며, 고가인 단점이 있다. 따라서 이러한 단점을 보완하기 위해 p+n 포토다이오드를 이용한 마이크로 ECL시스템을 제작 과산화수소 농도를 50uM${\sim}$10mM 범위에서 측정하였고, 글루코오스는 1mM${\sim}$20mM 농도범위에서 측정하였다. 따라서 마이크로 ECL 시스템이 바이오센서 혹은 바이오 분석기로써의 가능성을 확인 하였다.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the actual condition of environment conscious logistics(ECL) system which is essential to make material recycling economic society. ECL management which meant simply recycle is tend to promote material reduction, reuse and recycling. We have made case studies about advanced ECL system. To examine manufacture companies' ECL system, we made survey form which is consist of 82 questionnaires and 129 companies have participated for this. And we have analyzed the survey responses. As a result, we propose the way of constructing ECL system in Korea.

Comparison of Luminescence Properties of Electrochemical Luminescence Cells for Various Electrode Materials and Structures

  • The electrochemical luminescence (ECL) device was investigated, which has similar structure to the dye-sensitized solar cell. The structure of the ECL cell in this experiment reliably induces a large amount of the oxidation around electrodes. The band gap of the ECL electrode is of 3.0 - 3.2 eV. Titanium dioxide ($TiO_2$) nanoparticle has following properties: a band gap of 3.4 eV, a low-priced material, and 002 preferred orientation (Z-axis). Zinc Oxide (ZnO) nanorod is easy to grow in a vertical direction. In this paper, in order to determine material suitable for the ECL device, the properties of various materials for electrodes of ECL devices such as ZnO nanorod (ZnO-NR) and $TiO_2$ nanoparticle ($TiO_2-NP$) were compared. The threshold voltage of the light emission of the ZnO-NR was 2.0 V which is lower than 2.5 V of $TiO_2-NP$. In the other hand, the luminance of $TiO_2-NP$ was $44.66cd/m^2$ and was higher than that of $34cd/m^2$ of ZnO-NR at the same applied voltage of 4 V. Based on the experimental results, we could conclude that $TiO_2-NP$ is a more suitable electrode material in ECL device than the ZnO-NR.

  • In this paper, a 155/311 Mb/s MUX/DEMUX chip using ECL macrocell away has been developed with a single device. This device for a 2.5 Gb/s SDH based transmission system is to interleave the parallel data of 51 Mb/s into 155 Mb/s(or 311 Mb/s) serial data output, and is to interleave a serial input bit stream of 155 Mb/s(or 311 Mb/s) into the parallel output of 51 Mb/s. The input and output of the device ate TTL compatible at the low-speed end, but 100k ECL compatible at the high-speed end. The device has been fabricated with Motorola ETL3200 macrocell away The fabricated chip shows the typical phase margin of 180 degrees and output data skew less than 220ps at the high-speed end.

Electrogenerated Chemiluminescence Sensor Based on Tris(2,2'-bipyridyl) ruthenium(II) Immobilized in the Composite Film of Multi-walled Carbon Nanotube/Sol-gel Zinc oxide/Nafion

  • A composite film of multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWCNT)/sol-gel-derived zinc oxide(ZnO)/Nafion has been utilized as an efficient immobilization matrix for the construction of a highly sensitive and stable tris(2,2'-bipyridyl) ruthenium(II) (Ru(${bpy)_3}^{2+})$ electrogenerated chemiluminescence (ECL) sensor. The electrochemical and ECL behaviors of Ru(${bpy)_3}^{2+})$ ion-exchanged into the composite film were strongly dependent upon the sol-gel preparation condition, the amount of MWCNT incorporated into the ZnO/Nafion composite film, and the buffer solution pH. The synergistic effect of MWCNTs and ZnO in the composite films increased not only the sensitivity but also the long-term stability of the ECL sensor. The present ECL sensor based on the MWCNT/ZnO/Nafion gave a linear response ($R^2$ = 0.999) for tripropylamine concentration from 500 nM to 1.0 mM with a remarkable detection limit (S/N = 3) of 15 nM. The present ECL sensor showed outstanding long-term stability (94% initial signal retained for 5 weeks). Since the present ECL sensor exhibits large response towards NADH, it could be applied as a transduction platform for the ECL biosensor in which the NADH is produced from the dehydrogenase-based enzymatic reaction in the presence of NA$D^+$ cofactor.

  • 본 논문은 혈당, 콜레스테롤센서에 적용이 가능한 과산화수소($H_2O_2$) 검출방식인 전기화학발광(Electrochemiluminescence:ECL)법 사용에 필요한 전극특성에 관한 연구이다. 전기화학전극으로 Pt박막전극을 사용하였으며, luminol(5-amino-2, 3-dihydro-1, 4-phthala edione)과 과산화수소($H_2O_2$)의 반응으로 발생한 빛을 포토다이오드(photodiode)를 사용하여 전류를 측정하였다. 사용된 전극은 직사각형(rectangular-type), 교차형(interdigitated-type)의 두 가지 형태를 사용하여, 전극간의 거리와 면적에 따른 ECL특성을 측정하였다. ECL 발광 특성은 전극 면적이 증가함에 따라, 전극거리가 감소함에 따라 증가함을 관찰할 수 있었다.

  • One of the major sources of air pollution is urban particulate matter (UPM), which causes lung diseases involving oxidative stress, inflammation, and cancer. Codonopsis lanceolata (CL) has been used in East Asia as a traditional oriental medicinal ingredient for lung diseases (e.g., asthma and bronchitis). However, the connection between the impact of CL and UPM in the lungs has rarely been investigated. This study aimed to confirm the inhibitory activity of the ethanol extract of CL (ECL) against oxidative stress and disruption of tight cell junctions in human pulmonary epithelial cells after exposure to UPM. As the lung cells were pre-treated with ECL, the UPM-induced increase in cellular reactive oxygen species production suppressed tight junction proteins (e.g., N-cadherin, fibronectin, occludin, zonula occludens-1, and claudin-4). These results suggest that ECL prevents the possible effects of UPM toxicity on the lungs.
