In the treatment of hemifacial spasm, the operative methods, such as neurovascular decompression, rhizotomy etc. are the most efficacious therapy on its control. But, due to some side effects and complication, pharmacotherapy has been the first attempted by first intention of hemifacial spasm. The cabamazepine is the most commonly used agent, however it is often inefficacious in some cases, and attenuates as the time passes, engages in some symptoms, such as dizziness, nausea, vomiting, and causes an aplastic anemia, it has many deficiencies in becoming the first intention. Acupuncture is a simple, effective and conservative spasm control modality. It is so simple to use in hemifacial spasm. We had observed 5 cases of hemifacial spasm which were treated by acupuncture in our hospital recently. We reported these cases and reviewed related literatures briefly. The results of treatment are as follows : The average grade of spasm intensity classified by Scott's description was 3 before acu-therapy and it became 2 after the therapy. These results suggest that acupuncture and ear-acupuncture were effective as the first intention in healing hemifacial spasm.

We researched two patients with ear fullness after traffic accident. We diagnosed the patients' symptom as referred pain caused by clavicle branch of sternocleidomastoid (SCM) muscle. So, acupunture therapy and SCENAR therapy were used to treat the patients. We measured their discomfort by visual anlog scale (VAS) before and after treatment. As a result, the patients improved remarkably and VAS score was declined sharply when we applied acupuncture therapy and SCENAR therapy on clavicle branch of SCM. Therefore, we are certain that ear fullness can be caused by clavicle branch of SCM after traffic accident. It shows dramatical and satisfactory progress by acupuncture therapy and SCENAR therapy to relax shortening of clavicle branch of SCM.

We think that we know what alopecia is. But in detail, we have nothing of alopecia areata. Many kinds of alopecia make us be confused. So, I studied the history ( name, cause, treatment etc,) of alopecia areata through the oriental and occidental medical books. As a result, the investigation of alopecia areata was led to the next conclusions 1. Synonyms of alopecia areata are Bandok(斑禿), Docbal(禿髮), Guyjidu(귀지두), Guychedu(鬼剃頭), Gyobalsun(咬髮癬). 2. Generally, the cause of alopecia areata is classified into three groups. Those are hyeolheopungjo(血虛風燥), Chichehyeoleo(氣滯血瘀), Gansinbujoc(肝腎不足). 3. The important internal uses of alopecia areata are Sineungyangjin-Dan(神應養眞丹), Soyosan plus Tonggyuhwalhyeoltang(逍遙散合通竅活血湯), Chilbomiyuom-Dan(七寶美髥丹) etc. 4. The important external uses of alopecia areata are haeaetang(海艾湯), Suncheukbackyeop(鮮側柏葉), Old ginger(老薑), Leaf of mulberry tree(桑葉) etc. 5. The kinds of Acupunture therapy are Maehwachim(梅花針), Chilsungchim(七星針), Ear acupunture(耳針) etc.

Vertigo occurs when there is conflict between the signals sent to the brain by various balance- and position-sensing systems of the body. Injury to or diseases of the inner ear can send false signals to the brain indicating that the balance mechanism of the inner ear (labyrinth) detects motion. Inner ear disorders, such as benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV), Meniere's disease, vestibular neuronitis, or labyrinthitis. Vestibular neuronitis is an inflammation of the vestibular nerve, which is located in your inner ear. In this case, She has vertigo occured suddenly and continued even when the person lies completely still. It may be accompanied by nausea and vomiting. She has taken herbal medication and treated by acupunture. Her symptoms become disappeared after 3 days and All most symptoms were disappeard. In conclusion, It is required to classify vestibulopathy into vestibular neuronitis or labyrinthitis. In this case we diagnosed her case as vestibular neuronitis. Her symptoms of vestibulopathy recovered fast by Korean traditional medical therapy.

Activated T helper 2 (Th2) immune function is hallmark of various allergic diseases. We investigated the anti-allergic effect of Jagamcho-tang extract(JE) on ovalbumin(OVA)-induced atopic dermatitis mice model and OVA-stimulated splenocytes isolated from the mice. Mice were intraperitoneally injected OVA/alum solution 2 times at interval of 14 days, followed by oral administration of JE for 7 days. After administration, mice were subcutaneously injected with OVA in ear. JE treatment reduced ear swelling and infiltration of inflammatory cells in ear. Serum levels of interleukin(IL)-4 and immunoglobulins, such as total-IgE and OVA-specific IgE, were decreased in JE treated group. Furthermore, JE treatment decreased OVA-induced Th2-associated cytokines like IL-4, IL-5 and IL-13 mRNA levels in splenocytes. In conclusion, JE reduced allergic immune response via IgE production and Th2 response in OVA-sensitized mice, suggesting that JE could be useful prescription for allergic diseases including atopic dermatitis.
