  • Large-scale industrial facility structures continue to deteriorate due to the effects of operating and environmental conditions. The problems of these industrial facilities are potentially causing economic losses, environmental pollution, casualties, and national losses. Accordingly, in order to prevent disaster accidents of large structures in advance, the necessity of diagnosing structures using non-destructive inspection techniques is being highlighted. The defect occurrence, location and defect type of the structure are important parameters for predicting the remaining life of the structure, so continuous defect observation is very important. Recently, many researchers have been actively researching real-time monitoring technology to solve these problems. Structure Health Monitoring Inspection is a technology that can identify and respond to the occurrence of defects in real time, but there is a limit to check the degree of defects and the direction of growth of defects. In order to compensate for the shortcomings of these technologies, the importance of defect imaging techniques is emerging, and in order to find defects in large structures, a method of inspecting a wide range using guided ultrasonic is effective. The work presented here introduces a calculation for the shape factor for evaluation of the damaged area, as well as a variable β parameter technique to correct a damaged shape. Also, we perform research in modeling simulation and an experiment for comparison with a suggested inspection method and verify its validity. The curved structure image obtained by the advanced RAPID algorithm showed a good match between the defect area and the shape.

  • Objectives This study was conducted to confirm the possibility of Clostridium difficile infection (CDI) treatment through natural herbal medicines. Methods After screening a total of 77 herbal medicines through the paper disc agar diffusion method, we selected the herbal medicines that showed a effectiveness compared to the positive control vancomycin. Afterwards, drugs that showed inhibitory effects compared to C. difficile without inhibition of Bifidobacterium bifidum and Lactobacillus plantarum, known as beneficial bacteria, were selected and minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) was confirmed by applying the Broth microdilution method. Results The Coptidis Rhizoma, well known for its antimicrobial effect, was found to have antimicrobial effects on C. difficile, but also had inhibitory effects on the beneficial bacterium B. bifidum. 30% ethanol extraction Crataegi fructus, Corni fructus and Mume fructus had antimicrobial effects on C. difficile without inhibiting the beneficial bacteria B. bifidum and L. plantarum. The MIC values of 30% ethanol extraction Crataegi fructus, Corni fructus and Mume fructus were found to be 10 mg/mL, 20 mg/mL and 5 mg/mL, respectively. Conclusions Crataegi fructus, Corni fructus and Mume fructus were identified as candidate medicines for C. difficile. Further researchs will need to be done in vivo, and to find an optimal extraction method accompanied by economic evaluation.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze an economic assessment of PV-ESS systems based on the power generation performance data of solar power (PV) operating in domestic area, and to calculate the optimal capacity of the energy storage system. In this study, PVs in Gyeonggi-do, Jeollabuk-do, and Gyeongsangbuk-do were targeted, and PVs in this area were assumed to be installed on a general site, and the research was conducted by applying weights based on the facility's capacity. All the analysis was conducted using the actual amount of KPX transactions of PVs in 2019. In order to calculate the optimal capacity of PCS and BESS according to GHI, PV with a minimum/maximum/central value was selected by comparing the solar radiation before the horizontal plane between three years (2017-2019) of the location where PV was installed. As a result of the analysis, in Gyeonggi-do, if the REC weight decreases to 3.4 when there is no change in the cost of installing BESS and PCS, it is more economical to link BESS than PV alone operation of PV. In Jeollabuk-do, it was analyzed that if the REC weight was reduced to 3.6, it was more likely to link BESS than PV operated alone. In Gyeongsangbuk-do, it was analyzed that if the REC weight was reduced to 3.4, it was more likely to link BESS than PV operated alone.

  • We attempted to determine how adolescents' general characteristics, appearance stress, and anxiety affect adolescents' body image distortion using data from the 16th Korea Youth Risk Behavior Survey. We confirmed Body image distortion in 38.2% of the subjects, and the results of underestimated body image in 19.9% and overestimation in 18.3%. Appearance stress and anxiety were found to have an effect in both underestimate and overestimate groups. We confirmed that demographic characteristics such as gender, economic level, and academic level influence different aspects in the underestimation and overestimation groups. Therefore, we suggested that comprehensive evaluation by subdividing the subjective perception of adolescents' weight into cases of overestimation and underestimation will be an important factor in determining mental health and weight control behavior in the future.

  • Background Surgical correction of bilateral cleft lip deformities remains one of the most challenging areas in facial plastic surgery. Many surgical techniques and conservative devices have been offered for the early management of bilateral cleft lip in infants. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of lip adhesion on the lip and nose of patients with bilateral cleft lip. Methods A retrospective review of 13 patients with bilateral cleft lip was performed and compared with age-matched noncleft children. Patients underwent lip adhesion at a mean age of 2.8 months, and cheiloplasty at 6.6 months of age using a modification the Mulliken method. Secondary rhinoplasty was performed at the age of 6 in 13 patients. The surgical results were analyzed using photographic records obtained at the age of 1 and 7 years. Twelve length measurements and one angle measurement were obtained. Results All measurements were not statistically different from those of the noncleft age-matched control group at the age of 1. At 7 years of age, upper lip height and vermilion mucosal height were shorter (p < 0.05) than in the control group. Nasal tip protrusion and the nasolabial angle were greater (p < 0.05) than in the control group. Conclusion Lip adhesion followed by secondary rhinoplasty resulted in an acceptable lip and nasal appearance. Although nasoalveolar molding is now widely used, lip adhesion can be an appropriate alternative if an orthodontist is not available due to geographical or economic constraints.

  • Background: Proliferative enteritis caused by Lawsonia intracellularis undermines the economic stability of the swine industry worldwide. The development of cost-effective animal models to study the pathophysiology of the disease will help develop strategies to counter this bacterium. Objectives: This study focused on establishing a model of gastrointestinal (GI) infection of L. intracellularis in C57BL/6 mice to evaluate the disease progression and lesions of proliferative enteropathy (PE) in murine GI tissue. Methods: We assessed the murine mucosal and cell-mediated immune responses generated in response to inoculation with L. intracellularis. Results: The mice developed characteristic lesions of the disease and shed L. intracellularis in the feces following oral inoculation with 5 × 107 bacteria. An increase in L. intracellularis 16s rRNA and groEL copies in the intestine of infected mice indicated intestinal dissemination of the bacteria. The C57BL/6 mice appeared capable of modulating humoral and cell-mediated immune responses to L. intracellularis infection. Notably, the expression of genes for the vitamin B12 receptor and for secreted and membrane-bound mucins were downregulated in L. intracellularis -infected mice. Furthermore, L. intracellularis colonization of the mouse intestine was confirmed by the immunohistochemistry and western blot analyses. Conclusions: This is the first study demonstrating the contributions of bacterial chaperonin and host nutrient genes to PE using an immunocompetent mouse model. This mouse infection model may serve as a platform from which to study L. intracellularis infection and develop potential vaccination and therapeutic strategies to treat PE.

  • Since the dredging reclaimed land consisting of soft ground is very weak in support, the difficult and complex factors should be considered in the design to calculate accurate bearing capacity of soft ground. Recently, various reinforcement construction methods of soft ground have been designed for dredged landfills, but the stabilities are predicted by calculating conventional Meyerhof (1974) equation for trafficability in soft ground. Conventional equations increase economic costs by underestimating bearing capacity of weak ground in order to ensure constructive safety, so a modified equation has been proposed from the literature. The paper attempts to experiment and compute important factors, such as stitching fiber and seam tensile strength of geotextiles, that are not theoretically considered and can be identified in the field. In addition, The evaluation of the bearing capacity of the modified equation is verified to be stable for trafficability through the plate bearing test performed on site.

  • In the digital age, innovation is at the heart of information technology development. This paper explores the differences of regional innovation capabilities from within the innovation system from a new perspective. By applying the coupling coordination degree model, the coupling coordination degree analysis is conducted for the three systems of innovation (innovation input, innovation output, and innovation environment) in 31 provinces, municipalities, and autonomous regions of China. The results show that: the overall level of coupling coordination degree in China is low, and the number of provinces in good coordination and quality coordination is low number, but they are all distributed in the eastern economically developed regions, showing a high correlation between regional innovation and regional economic development. The overall trend of China's innovation coordination is on the rise. The research results of this paper can provide a new perspective for the evaluation of innovation capability, and also provide an important impact of innovation on promoting the development of ICT industry.

  • Previous studies on the factors affecting residents' migration have shown that residents who feel dissatisfied with their residential environment are more likely to move to another area than those who feel satisfied. The main purpose of this study is to investigate the subjective evaluation of the decline of the place and its impact on the intention to stay. This study used the data from Hankyoreh 21 survey of the residents who have been residing in the declining regions. The main finding of this study is that residents have a much higher propensity to stay as they become older. The fact that residents' staying intention tends to increase with age seems to be closely related to physical and economic constraints of older residents. Therefore, it can be inferred from the result that the elderly are more likely to be exposed to disadvantageous environments than the young residents in the declining regions.
