  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of educational service quality, participation intention, and educational performance in action learning class. Methods: The proposed research model is tested using structural equation modeling for hypotheses based on the data collected from one of action learning class. Results: The results indicate that educational service quality(reliability, assurance, tangibles, empathy, information accuracy, and relationship quality) positively affects participation intention which in turn improve educational performance, including aspects of before and after class of action learning. In addition, participation intention in classroom positively affects educational performance with both groups. For after class of action learning, the result confirms the effect of responsiveness of educational service quality on participation intention, however, in before class of action learning there is not showed a significant relationship. Conclusion: This study would provide useful information and can be applied to the improvement of educational performance through the participation of students by the instructors and the educational institutes who want to apply the active learning forum in classroom.

  • Build-Transfer-Lease (BTL) was introduced to the domestic construction market in 2005. Now, seven years later, the BTL model is most active for educational facilities. In 2011, 93 educational facility projects entered the maintenance stage. Considering the characteristics of today's BTL projects for educational facilities, the main issues are the initial performance and maintenance of educational facilities and the service-providing status for the 20-year operational management period, in relation to providing safety and convenience to students, the facility users. Seeking a solution, local education offices and departments in charge of BTL under the Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology have been exploring various methods of evaluating operational maintenance performance from various perspectives. For educational facility BTL projects, however, the appropriateness of initial operation performance evaluation, rather than considering the 20-year operational management period, is controversial in regards to sustainability. On this account, performance evaluation items in four areas-operational maintenance evaluation, facility performance status evaluation, maintenance subject evaluation, and sustainable change response evaluation-should be extracted. An indicator of facility performance evaluation is presented in this study through an AHP survey targeting experts, as part of establishing an operation performance evaluation system for educational facility BTL projects.

  • Using a sample of third grade middle school students from the forth wave of Children and Youth Panel Survey in 2012, the mediation effects of private educational expenditure between parenting styles and children's academic performance were investigated by applying factor, cluster, tobit, and two stage regression analysis. The major results were as follows. First, four types of parenting style were identified. The most frequent parenting style was ambivalent parenting (tiger parenting) which was followed by authoritative parenting. Second, compared to permissive parenting style, ambivalent, authoritative, and authoritarian parenting styles were significantly associated with more private educational expenditures. Third, more private educational expenditures were significantly associated with higher academic performance of children. I found both a full mediation effect of private educational expenditure for ambivalent and authoritarian parenting styles, and a partial mediation effect for authoritative parents. Authoritative parenting style has a negative moderating effect on the relationship between household income and private educational expenditure, along with a positive direct effect on the academic performance of children. The results suggested that an authoritative parenting style was related with higher academic performance of children with less private educational expenditures compared to other parenting styles. The results also implied that the public policies to enhance authoritative parenting style among parents would be effective to reduce household's private educational expenditures.

  • This study aims to develop an educational program for healthy families using Christoph's team performance coaching (TPC) model and evaluate the program by program participant feedback. The educational program is unique in terms of helping the program participants measure the health level of their families, setting goals for the health improvement of their families based upon minimum family performance and seeking ways to achieve these goals. The educational program was designed as 3-hour-course for the convenience of implementing education and recruiting participants. The overall program was based on the characteristics and principles of coaching. Those with a master's degree or above and professional coaches were recruited as instructors. The first workshop for the instructors was conducted in 2 sessions, for 12 hours each (Dec 29-30, 2010 and Feb 12-13, 2011) and the second workshop was conducted Mar 25-26, 2011, for 12 hours. During the workshop for the instructors, the final education program was completed based upon the instructors' impression and evaluation. 8 instructors conducted the educational programs in educational institutions and facilities across the nation. The results of the program evaluated by 419 adults of education participants demonstrated the applicability of Christoph's team performance coaching model to the educational program for healthy family and its effects. If various educational programs with flexible education hours and content according to the needs of subject groups are developed, this educational program can be used as a basic educational program for in-depth education and further service for the improvement of family health.

  • Purpose: To examine pressure ulcer care from the standpoints of perceived importance, educational needs, knowledge and performance among clinical nurses. Methods: This descriptive study was conducted with a convenient sample of 289 nurses from four hospitals. Questionnaire data collected from June to August 2008 was analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, and Pearson's correlation coefficients. Results: The mean scores of importance and educational needs concerning pressure ulcer care were high, performance was moderate, and knowledge was low. Knowledge level differed significantly according to career, performance differed significantly according to pressure ulcer care education and the main healer(the person primarily responsible for treatment). Perceived importance differed significantly according to the main healer, and educational needs differed significantly according to working area and the main healer. Significant correlations were evident between performance and importance, performance and educational needs, importance and knowledge, and importance and educational needs. Conclusion: Focus on perceived importance and educational needs to clinical nurses about pressure ulcer care may be beneficial to improve knowledge and practice of pressure ulcer care, and should be reflected in the development of effective programs to enhance relevant nursing skills.

This study used survey design. The subjects were chosen from the mothers whose children have received pediatric asthma treatment or who have admitted in the pediatric unit of major hospitals using selection criteria. The total number of subjects were 63 mothers. The data collection period was from May 1st, 2001 to April 17th, 2001. Instruments used for this study were knowledge examination, educational demand evaluation, and educational performance. The data were analysed using t-test, ANOVA with SPSS PC(Version 10.0). The results of this study were as follows. 1. Mean score of knowledge about pediatric asthma was 17.95, which suggests the mothers of children with asthma have a medium knowledge level. The highest grade was knowledge about treatment and follow management and the lowest grade was knowledge about diet. 2. Demand for education showed 4.23, which suggests the mothers of children with asthma have high educational demand. The highest score was about exercise and activity in daily life and the lowest score was medication. 3. Perceived educational performance score of themselves showed 2.40, which suggests the mothers of children with asthma thought that health team do not give enough education to them. The highest score was knowledge about pediatric asthma itself and the lowest score was exercise and activity in daily life. 4. Demand for education and perceived educational performance about pediatric asthma showed significant difference in all areas. 5. There were no statistically significant difference noted between general characteristics and degree of knowledge, educational demand and perceived educational performance about pediatric asthma. In conclusion, there needed a systematic educational program development for the mothers of children with asthma. Especially, an education program for mothers in the beginning period of pediatric asthma should be emphasized.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the levels of knowledge and performance confidence of, and educational needs on ostomy care among nurses in long-term care hospitals. Methods: The participants were 97 nurses from D and C cities. Data were collected from September 6~26, 2019, with self-reported questionnaires including general characteristics, knowledge and performance confidence of, and educational needs on ostomy care. Data were analyzed by using descriptive statistics, t-tests, ANOVAs, Pearson correlation coefficients, and multiple regression analysis. Results: The correct rate of knowledge of ostomy care was 60.1%. In addition, performance confidence of ostomy care was low, while educational needs on ostomy care were high. The knowledge of ostomy care was identified as a factor influencing in educational needs on ostomy care (β=-0.69, p<.001). It explained 42.0% of the variation in educational needs on ostomy care. Conclusion: There are nursing needs about ostomy care for older cancer patients in long-term care hospitals. Thus educational programs of ostomy care that are suitable to apply to the long-term care hospitals are necessary to develop for enhancing nursing capacity.
