A Study on Feedforward Compensation Method of IPMSM for EV with Non-sinusoidal BEMF (비 정현파 역기전압을 가지는 EV용 IPMSM의 전향보상 제어기법에 관한 연구)

  • In the case of the Back EMF voltage contains the harmonics, the motor torque ripple and vibration is occurred by the current pulsation, because IPMSM control algorithm is the model which is assumed that it contains a sinusoidal Back EMF voltage. To improve ride quality, in the case of IPMSM for EV, improving the torque control characteristics is necessary. Therefore, there is a need to minimize the influence of the harmonics. In this paper, the investigation to decrease the current distortion factor has been performed for improving torque control characteristics by applying the non-sinusoidal Back EMF to IPMSM model.

  • On account of small size and light weight, a high-speed machine is regarded as a key technology for many future applications of drive systems. In high-speed applications, permanent magnet (PM) synchronous motors have a number of merits such as high efficiency and high power density. Accordingly, they are suitable for driving the air-blower of a fuel cell electric vehicle (FCEV) where space and energy savings are critical. Particularly, a surface-mounted PM motor of them is mainly used as a high-speed machine. However, the motor has a fatal flaw owing to a retaining can to maintain the mechanical integrity of a rotor assembly. The can results in the increase of magnetic air-gap length in the surface-mounted PM motor. Thus, in this paper, an interior PM motor is designed in order to drive the air-blower of FCEV instead of the surface-mounted PM motor, and the experimental results of two models are compared to verify the capability of the interior PM motor for a high-speed machine.

An Optimal Energy Storage Operation Scheduling Algorithm for a Smart Home Considering Life Cost of Energy Storage System

  • This paper presents an optimal operation scheduling algorithm for a smart home with energy storage system, electric vehicle and distributed generation. The proposed algorithm provides the optimal charge and discharge schedule of the EV and the ESS. In minimizing the electricity costs of the smart home, it considers not only the cost of energy purchase from the grid but also the life cost of batteries. The life costs of batteries are calculated based on the relation between the depth of discharge and life time of battery. As the life time of battery depends on the charge and discharge pattern, optimal charge and discharge schedule should consider the life cost of batteries especially when there is more than one battery with different technical characteristics. The proposed algorithm can also be used for optimal selection of size and type of battery for a smart home.

Probabilistic Fatigue Life Evaluation of Rolling Stock Structures (철도차량 구조물의 확률론적 피로수명 평가)

  • Rolling stock structures such as bogie frame and car body play an important role for the support of vehicle leading. In general, more than 25 years' durability is needed for them. A lot of study has been carried out for the prediction of the fatigue life of the bogie frame and car body in experimental and theoretical domains. One of the new methods is a probabilistic fatigue lift evaluation. The objective of this paper is to estimate the fatigue lift of the bogie frame of an electric car, which was developed by the Korea Railroad Research Institute (KRRI). We used two approaches. In the first approach probabilistic distribution of S-N curve and limit state function of the equivalent stress of the measured stress spectra are used. In the second approach, limit state function is also used. And load spectra measured by strain gauges are approximated by the two-parameter Weibull distribution. Other probabilistic variables are represented by log-normal and normal distributions. Finally, reliability index and structural integrity of the bogie frame are estimated.

Study on Fuel Consumption Improvement in SI Engine with EGR for Hybrid Electric Vehicle (하이브리드용 가솔린엔진의 EGR을 통한 연비향상에 관한 연구)

  • EGR(exhaust gas recirculation) is considered as a most effective method to reduce the NOx emissions. But high EGR tolerance is always pursued not only for its advantages of the pumping loss reduction and fuel economy benefit in Gasoline-Hybrid engine. However, the occurrence of excessive cyclic variation with high EGR normally prevents substantial fuel economy improvements from being achieved in practice. Therefore, the optimum EGR rate should be carefully determined in order to achieve low fuel consumption and low exhaust emission. In this study, 2 liters gasoline engine with E-EGR system was used to investigate the effects of EGR on fuel efficiency, combustion stability, engine performance and exhaust emissions. With optimal EGR rates, the fuel consumption was improved by 4%. This improvement was achieved while a reduction in NOx emissions of 75% was accomplished. Increase of EGR gas temperature causes the charge air temperature to affect the knock phenomenon and moreover, the EGR valve lift changes for the same control signal.

A Study of the Improvement of Thermal Performance of a Junction Box of a Passenger Car (자동차 정션박스의 열성능 개선을 위한 연구)

  • Thermal management of a junction box of a passenger car has recently become more challenging due to its smaller size and larger current capacity. Thus, it is essential to perform the thermal optimization of a junction box in its design on an early stage of vehicle design. In this study, 3 dimensional CFD simulation with experimental measurement has been done to study for better thermal management of the junction box. First, the study of thermal characteristics of electric relays in the junction box has revealed that each surface of the relay has very different thermal resistance. In addition, an idea to install a cooling fan on the junction box has been studied and it was found that the forced cooling method was not effective on the system to keep the thermal resistance to the reasonable level of the junction box. Finally, the effect of external flows around the junction box on the temperatures of the relays, fuses, etc. has been studied and the result shows that the installation of the junction box at the proper place in an engine room can avoid any unnecessary overdesign in thermal management.

  • In this paper, we proposed Interference suppression method of between AMI system and EV charging system. IEC12139-1 and HomePlug GreenPhy are using 2-30Mhz frequency band in power line communication. Both method while using the same frequency band, interference occurs in the system of each other. In this paper, we experiment a way to suppress the interference through the channel separation using a Walsh code.

  • A LRT(Light Rail Transit) is one of the Future Urban Railway Development Project. The project's goal is to reduce a transportation congestion in the center of the city. New transportation is intensely required in order to overcome a limit of the ground transportation that is the existing public transportation, A LRT(Light Rail Transit) construction project to be based on an unmanned driving system is the large composition system that a vehicle, a signal, communication, electric, track etc. were organically integrated as echo-friendly urban transportation systems. It also put a huge budget, which is a large-scale infrastructure projects. It is international trend that Light Rail Transit projects apply a technique in System Engineering for a schedule, cost, quality elevations, and to approach in viewpoints of life-cycle from initial construction steps to operation, abolition. This paper intends to analyze RAM requirements taking into consideration ISO/IEC 15288 throughout life-cycle from concept, design, manufacture, operation and maintenance to the final phase, decommissioning, and the study seeks to suggest directions of efficient use to domestic LRT projects.

  • The conductive polymer composites recently became increasingly to many fields of industry due to their electrical properties. To understand these properties of composites, electrical properties were measured and were studied relatively. Electrical conductivity measurements showed percolation phenomena. Percolation theories are frequently applied to describe the insulator-to-conductor transitions in composites made of a conductive filler and an insulating matrix. It has been showed both experimentally and theoretically that the percolation threshold strongly depends on the aspect ratio of filler particles. The critical concentration of percolation formed is defined as the percolation threshold. This paper was to study epoxy resin filled with copper. The experiment was made with vehicle such as epoxy resin replenished with copper powder and the study about their practical use was performed in order to apply to electric and electronic industry as well as general field. The volume specific resistance of epoxy resin composites was 3.065~13.325 in using copper powder. The weight loss of conductive composites happened from $350^{\circ}C{\sim}470^{\circ}C$.

Implication from Technology Innovation, Growth Strategy and Industrial Policy of Chinese Automobile Industry (중국 자동차 산업의 기술혁신, 성장전략 및 산업정책의 시사점)

  • Since 2009, China has become biggest automobile supplier and consumer all over the world. Chinese government and automobile firms have been executed strategic and aggressive industry policy and business strategy for nurturing automobile industry as a core manufacturing industry. However, can we assure that all of these policy and strategy have positive effect on Chinese automobile industry? For fulfilling this gab, our research examined the government policy and firm's strategy in different development stage of Chinese automobile industry. According to research result, at initial stage(1983-1996), Chinese automobile industry has grown by technological learning and reverse engineering from Soviet Union, Japan and Germany. In rapid growing stage(1996-2009), Chinese automobile firms have succeed to develop and produce own brand product with 100% own technology. And this kind of quantum jump in technology development was conducted by joint venture policy and M&A strategy. However, at the fourth stage(2010-), Chinese government and firms have over invested and focused on Electric Vehicle manufacturing without developing core technology or SW. Overall, the old-fashioned policy and strategy module in manufacturing industry of China could have negative effect on its industry development.
