According to the growing interest in the digital convergence throughout society, the convergence of creative and new forms is emerging recently in various fields. Research methods to explore the diversity of academic studies have been studied in the field of study. As one of these methods, research on electronic cultural atlas that has features of convergence studies is gradually spreading. In this paper, we examine existing electronic cultural atlas and then, compare and analyze them. In details, existing electronic cultural atlas are comparative analyzed on the basis of base map, interface, and function. Through the results of comparative analysis, the efficient production of electronic cultural atlas are examined.

Electronics cultural atlas is a typical methodology for the Digital Humanities. Since electronic cultural atlas could visualize various cultural information based on electronic atlas, that is an information visualization, users are able to make intuitive understanding on specific areas. Therefore, it can be effectively utilized in Area Studies and also helps users to understand comprehensively information on historic event in particular area with time information, because electronic cultural atlas represents a particular subject and time information with geographical information based on map. In other words, electronic cultural atlas may be considered as a specialized system of Digital Humanities for studying the Humanities and Area Studies. In this paper, we design and implement mediterranean electronic cultural atlas(MECA) for researchers of the Mediterranean area that has cultural hybridity formed the exchange of various aspects such as civilization, religion, race and language. In detail, a 'Digital Humanities Research Support System' is constructed to visualize research outcomes related to the Mediterranean area on Electronic Cultural Atlas and to use for researches.

With the growing interests in ICT convergence, interdisciplinary researches are still actively discussed and studied today such as cultural atlas DB, electronic cultural atlas. Electronic cultural atlas can show various cultural aspects on the map by using point, line, polygon, and so on. Users can obtain the informations connected to the three values through manipulating theme, spatial and time values. In this regard, text information can be visualized as various ways like point, line, and polygon on the map. This can make the user get information effectively by usability, accessibility and immediacy of the system. In this paper, we implemented academic journal map system based on the electronic cultural atlas using Google Maps. This system supports various journals information services based on electronic cultural atlas and can be used efficiently as a tool for academic trends analysis. Also, it provides academic material through visualization of information based on the map. In detail, it can be utilized as the foundations for research of Humanities and Area Studies.

As a form of convergence studies, many studies on electronic cultural atlas have been performed. In this paper, our objective is to design an electronic cultural atlas for utilizing photo contents based on display and sharing effect. This is one of the ways to effectively use various photo contents. Through electronic cultural atlas, photo contents are recognized as an object that contains a lot of information. To do this, we design an electronic cultural atlas for utilizing photo contents, and investigate the utilization differences through comparison with existing systems. In detail, we examine the limits of the traditional photo exhibition method, and research on usability of users when an electronic cultural atlas was used to exhibit and share the photos contents efficiently.

According to continuous development of information technology, it is needed to make convergence of other disciplines such as humanities and area studies. Among convergence fields related to information technology and humanities/area studies, electronic cultural atlas represents various digitalized cultural information on electronic map using spatial data such as points, lines, and polygons through time, spatial, and subject axises. Knowledge map is to represent special academic information based on electronic cultural atlas. In details, knowledge map can provide integrated information sharing and spread because academic information associated with electronic cultural atlas and data related to per subjects, regions, and period become organically connected. Therefore, knowledge map may be utilized to promote scholastic research and diffuse research result. In this paper, we describe basic concept and composition of knowledge map and propose design method to construct knowledge map.

Culture is like living organisms based on local and history. Therefore, we don't understand the whole phase of the culture if we neglect the information of the time and space. In this paper, we describe a preliminary study building of a 3D electronic cultural atlas about the national education center for Korean traditional music.

This research aims at developing an electronic culture atlas using smart phones as a way to share the research results of Mind Humanities. An electronic atlas offers the web service of a great deal of information without the limitation of paper, which is different from the existing paper maps. When the concept of culture is added to an electronic atlas, it becomes an electronic culture atlas. To create an application program using smartphones, their various features should be understood and the development method to maximize them is necessary. Accordingly, in this paper, what needs to be taken into consideration for the service based on smartphones and the characteristics of smartphones to be considered in the development process were examined.

This study is on the necessity of constructing an Electronic Culture Atlas of Gyeonggiyetgil the concept of information provision. Gyeonggiyetgil is a road restored by Gyeonggi-province with the goal of completion in 2022. The purpose of the road is not just the purpose of movement. In the case of Gyeonggiyetgil, it was built in the Joseon Dynasty and is a road that can be traveled on foot. Travelers walking on this road can experience the history, stories, cultural properties, and natural scenery of the road. Therefore, various information related to Gyeonggiyetgil exists. In this study, we would like to mention the necessity of constructing an Electronic Culture Atlas for Gyeonggiyetgil and discuss in detail how existing information can be collected and provided.

The development of information technology grows the society and allows the user to generate more information and the requirements. According to recent growing interest in digital convergence technologies, digital convergence can be utilized by a variety of methods as a new study. Electronic culture atlas would be digitized cultural information that represents a particular area on the map. In detail, spatial data like as point, line, and area can be used to represent the culture information. Using electronic culture atlas, also, it is possible to provide and utilize information which is associated with time, space(map) and subject(culture). Thus, electronic culture atlas could be used as a method for the humanities or area studies and spread research results by displaying on the culture atlas. In general, existing electronic culture atlas used bitmap image mostly as a base map. Using bitmap image, it is difficult to represent to provide three-dimensional information of specific area. Also, it happens problem such as breakage occurs during zoom-in operation. To solve this problems, we design and implement electronic culture atlas based on Google Earth which is three-dimensional map service.
