  • Purpose: To analyze the frequency of emergency room visits according to socioeconomic factors of emergency room visitors. Methods: In this study, frequency analysis, percentage analysis, and x2 test were performed using the SPSS 23.0 program based on the 2018 data from the Korea Health Panel. Results: Among 1,648 participants included in this study, 1,279 visited the emergency room only once in the past year, while 369 visited the emergency room more than once. The relationship between frequency of emergency room visits and socioeconomic factors was analyzed using x2 test, and no statistically significant relationship was noted between emergency room visits and education, economic activity, insurance type, and individual quartile income. However, a significant relationship was noted between emergency room visits and being handicap and living in households with quintile income. Conclusion: The study determined the relationship between frequency of emergency room visits and socioeconomic factors. A follow-up study analyzing socioeconomic factors of outpatient departments, 119 ambulance transport services, and frequency of emergency room visits among chronically ill patients is needed to provide basic data for establishing health policies among different socioeconomic strata.

  • Purpose : This study was designed to identify factors influencing burnout of nurses in emergency medical center. Methods : Data were collected by questionnaires from 178 emergency room nurses randomly selected from 6 general hospitals in two metropolitan cities. Measures were burnout, QEC, depression, decision latitude and job demand. Data were analysed using frequencies, means, standard deviation, t-test or one way ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficients and multiple regression with SPSS/win 18.0 version. Results : The mean score for burnout in emergency room nurses was 2.59 out of possible 4. There were significant differences in burnout according to exercise, leisure, position, job demand and depression. Burnout correlated negatively with exercise and leisure, and positively with job demand and depression. Factors influencing burnout in emergency room nurses were identified as exercise(${\beta}$=-.399, p<.001), leisure(${\beta}$=-.354, p<.001), job demand(${\beta}$=.301, p=.006) and depression(${\beta}$=.189, p=.021). These factors explained 49.8% of burnout reported by emergency room nurses. Conclusion : The result indicate which factors are major factors influencing burnout in emergency room nurses in general hospitals. Therefore, these factors may serve as predictors of burnout in emergency room nurses.

Methods : we reviewed medical records of all patients who were Hospitalized with acute myocardial infraction from March 1, 2002 to February 28, 2003. Results : The average length of stay in the emergency room of the subjects was 182.74 minutes. After the emergency room treatment, 48.1% of the subjects were transferred to intensive care unit. The hospitalization through emergency room mostly took place in the office hours. There were more patients on Monday. The influencing factors on the length of stay in the emergency room of patients with acute myocardial infraction were emergency room arrival time which was classified in seasons, treatment hours of specialized doctors, medical care insurance and required time of radiologic examination. Conclusion : In order to reduce the length of emergency room stay, it might be an available solution secure enough spaces, facility, and staff of the radiologic test only for the patients of the emergency room. And the effective use of emergency facility and space, establishment of standardized treatment guideline, and provision of emergency treatment support system are also needed.
