Service Design and Service Model for Smart Plug (스마트플러그를 위한 서비스 디자인 및 서비스모델)

  • A lot of electrical energy is used in our daily life. While energy saving concerns are overall, consumption practices of people in general are very different. People want to control their energy use and by knowing the amount of energy they use. Smart plug is a new device that measures electricity usage through each plug at an outlet with on/off control. User experience for electrical devices in regards to electricity usage should be newly designed. In this study, based on the survey, personas have been devised and their energy use experience in relation with smart plugs have been designed. Service models have been designed as well. By designing service with smart plug, user could enhance the experience of energy usage and saving and energy consumption practices could be improved in a sustainable manner.

Survey Research on Satisfaction and Utilization of New & Renewable Energy Resource Map Service (신재생에너지 자원지도 서비스의 만족도 및 활용도 조사연구)

  • The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy is now placing emphasis on the importance of a new and renewable energy resource map service as an essential means of promoting the dissemination and adoption of renewable energy and other related industrial activities. To raise satisfaction with the new and renewable energy resource map service and promote its utilization, a survey was conducted on a sample group with an academic research background, i.e. employees of the Korea Institute of Energy Research (KIER) who have a thorough understanding of the technological concepts behind the new and renewable energy resource map. Statistical analysis of the survey results showed a high level of overall satisfaction with the web service for the new and renewable energy resource map. Therefore, it was concluded that the development of practical contents rather than the enhancement of web service convenience is required. A statistically significant trend was also observed whereby, the longer the professional career of the survey respondents, the greater their perception and utilization of, and satisfaction with, the enhanced service, which indicates that their level of understanding and utilization of technological concepts corresponds to their research experience record. In addition, the results obtained from the questionnaires regarding the evaluation of the utilization value of the resource map service indicated that use of the service was equally high in terms of political, business and academic applications. The results confirmed the need to develop multidimensional resource map contents that can be applied to as many fields as possible, rather than focusing on a specific terrain.

  • As the electric power industry has been revolutionarily transformed such that the distributed energy resources have been interconnected with power systems and a variety of energy service providers have been appeared, the need of Consumer Energy Portal as a core of two-way communication and service infrastructure between power suppliers and consumers has been gradually increased. Consumer Energy Portal can be thought of as a combination of hardware and software enabling two-way communication between energy service providers and equipment within the consumers' premises or a physical and logical link between consumers' in-building networks and wide-area access networks. In other words, Consumer Energy Portal can make the way the power industry has been traditionally operated the web-based way, enabling two-way interactions between energy service providers and consumers and mutual networking between end users' equipment. Thus, Consumer Energy Portal can be a kind of Service portal that provides new value-added services and efficient power operations that in the past. In this paper, for ESPs' integrated resources management, demand side management and value-added service provision, we have established the two-way access network that can gather real-time metering data using ZigBee technology and control physically networked equipment.

SK Energy's Customer Satisfaction

  • Many oil refinery companies have been proactively carried out marketing activities to survive in highly intensified service station industry. In 2012, SK Energy ranked number one in three customer satisfaction surveys (NCSI, KCSI, and KS-SQI). SK Energy's success is in its differentiated customer satisfaction business strategy. SK Energy has been implementing various marketing activities. As a part of the activities, it issued an affinity credit card with on spot discount privilege for the first time in the oil refinery industry. SK Energy also issued EnClean bonus card for OK Cashbag points that can be used for discounts at the service stations. On top of all, SK Energy generated point value-up with '3K Exclusive Privilege' program. In addition, team 'CS 119' was formed to noticeably improve the service. 'CS 119' visited each service station, diagnosed its CS service level then provided customized field training for improvement. Long-termimplementation of 'ACE Program', a field-base CS monitoring system, regularly checked customer satisfaction level. 'ACE Program' has significantly contributed improving SK Service Station's service quality and customer satisfaction. This case reviews customer satisfaction marketing activities SK Energy carried out. The focus is on distinctive factors that distinguish SK Energy's customer satisfaction marketing activities from competitors.

A Study of the Planning for Development of Smart City Energy Service Module with Citizen Participation (시민참여형 스마트시티 에너지 서비스 모듈 개발 기획에 관한 연구)

  • Global warming is accelerating as greenhouse gas emissions increase owing to the increase in population and urbanization rates worldwide. As an alternative to this solution, smart cities are being promoted. The purpose of this paper is to suggest a plan for developing energy service modules for the Sejong 5-1 living area, which has been selected as a test-bed for smart cities in Korea. Based on the smart city plans announced by the government for this study, a survey questionnaire on 12 energy services was composed by collecting the opinions of experts. The survey was conducted with 1,000 citizens, the degree of necessity of energy service that citizens think of was identified. Principal Component Analysis and Association Rule Mining were conducted to describe 12 energy service items in a reduced manner and analyze the correlation and relationship of each energy service. Finally, three modules were suggested using the analyzed results so that 12 energy services could be implemented in an efficient platform. These results are expected to contribute to the realization of a smart city to make them easily accessible for those who want to promote platform services in the energy field and envision energy service items.

Analysis of Radiation Energy Budget Using WISE Observation Data on the Seoul Metropolitan Area (WISE 관측자료를 이용한 수도권지역의 복사에너지수지 분석)

  • Radiation energy budget was analyzed using observation data from the Weather Information Service Engine (WISE) energy flux tower on the Seoul metropolitan area. Among observation data from the 13 energy flux towers, we used meteorological variables, radiation data (upward and downward short wave, upward and downward long wave, net short wave, net long wave and net radiation), albedo and emissivity for 15 months from July 2016 to September 2017. Although Gajwa (205) and Ttuksumm (216) sites located in urban, the albedo was relatively high due to the surround environment by glass wall buildings and the Han river around the sites. And Bucheon (209) site located in the suburb represented generally low emissivity. As a result, the albedo decreased and the emissivity increased in the city center. In the Seoul metropolitan area, the net radiation energy is $73.9W/m^2$ that the radiation budget of the surface is absorbed into the atmosphere. According to WISE observation data, it can be seen that observation at each sites are influenced by the surrounding environment.

  • This paper is concerned with data center remote management service for demanding forecasting and reduction of energy usage. More particularly, intelligent server rack, mounted on inside of the data center, collects information about energy usage and temperature per server. Using this information, management platform forecasts energy demand in the future and automatically makes report according green environment raw. By providing the remote management service through remote terminals, users are not tied to a time and place to control device inside the data center. In this way, the data center remote management service enhances operability of the facility.

Pre-service Chemistry Teachers’ Understanding of the Potential Energy Curve (퍼텐셜 에너지 곡선에 대한 예비 화학 교사들의 이해 조사)

  • In this study, the pre-service chemistry teachers’ understanding of potential energy curve was investigated. The subjects were 24 junior students and 26 senior students studying chemistry education in a college of education. A concept questionnaire consisted of thought experiments with different initial conditions was developed to survey the pre-service teachers’ conceptions of potential energy curve. The survey results showed that the pre-service chemistry teachers had difficulties to accept the negative values for potential energy and total energy. And they knew the mechanical energy conservation but they could not apply it properly to the thought experiment situations given in the questionnaire. Also they had the knowledge about the direction of force exerted between the two balls, but many of them believed that the balls would stop moving at the bottom of potential energy curve well. In addition, it was discovered that few pre-service teachers could relate the thought experiments to the chemical bonding, the liquefaction of gas, and the molecular vibration.

  • In this study, we propose an Energy-Aware Web service to optimize energy efficiency using the characteristics of the system load. Currently, the service scale of data center is growing and the range of its applications is enlarged, causing interest in energy conservation. In particular, the web service has the largest proportion among various services of the data center. We propose a new energy saving method for web services guaranteeing the performance requirements of the services. The proposed method is optimized through the differences of energy-consumption rate over the system load. Performance evaluation has been performed under conditions similar to the actual service. The results indicated that the maximum energy reduction by the proposed method is up to 30% better than the existing methods.

Analysis on the Operation of a Charging Station with Battery Energy Storage System

  • Fossil oil, as the main energy of transportation, is destined to be exhausted. The electrification of transportation is a sustainable solution to the energy crisis, since electric power could be acquired from the inexhaustible sun, wind and water. Among all the problems that hinder the development of Electric Vehicle (EV) industry, charging issue might be the most prominent one. In this paper, the service process of a charging station with Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) is analyzed by means of $Cram{\acute{e}}r$ - Lundberg model which has been intensively utilized in ruin theory. The service quality is proposed in two dimensions: the service efficiency and the service reliability. The arrival rate and State of Charge (SOC) upon arrival are derived from 2009 National Household Travel Survey (NHTS). The simulations are performed to show how the service quality is determined by the system parameters such as the number of servers, the service rate, the initial capacity, the charge rate and the maximum waiting time. At last, the economic analysis of the system is conducted and the best combination of the system parameters are given.
