  • A crane is very important mechanical systems in industrial applications to move huge objects. Especially, in marine port terminals, it is used to place container boxes at desired position within given operating time. However, such system is faced with environmental disturbance such as wind from the sea, thus crane control system is required to cope with this nature. This paper proposed robust and adaptive control algorithm of a complicated 3D crane against the environmental disturbance. We simplify a mathematical design procedure to derive our control algorithm. We conduct real-time experiment using a crane simulator to evaluate its superiority and reliability.

  • This study was conducted to analyze the present status and the levels of mechanization and automation for raising, feeding, water supply, propagation, health management, ventilation and heat control, data analysis, and etc, and to establish the guide of the future study on development of the optimum production system models of swine facility from the results of this analysis. The scheme of the future study on the development of the optimum production system model of swine facility was established as follows : 1. A Korean and environmental control type slatted windowless swine housing model would be developed according to the following basis : \circled1 Boars, gilts and sows, delivery sows should be raised individually and piglets, growing pigs, and finishing pigs should be raised in group. \circled2 The arrangement of furrowing house were two rows of furrowing crates facing the center aisle. 2. The environmental control system and waste management system that are suitable to Korean and environmental control type slatted windowless swine housing model would be developed. 3. An electronic identification device would be developed. 4. The automatic individual wet feeding system by electronic identification device and computers would be developed. 5. The individual management system would be developed, which could manage individually the breeding pigs by the electronic identification device. 6. An expert system would be developed, which could manage the health and data base of pigs.

Environmental Control of Plant Production Factory Using Programmable Logic Controller and Computer (PLC와 컴퓨터를 이용한 식물생산공장의 환경제어)

  • This study was conducted to develop a system and an control algorithm for control the environment of a plant factory. The greenhouse control system for environmental control was largely composed of a computer and a PLC. The screen of control program was composed of a greenhouse figure which was included machinery and equipments for greenhouse, the graph of environmental factors of inside greenhouse and the image of greenhouse. In order to reduce temperature change, the operation time of ventilation window was changed by 3 stage according to difference between a target and present temperature. When is heating, a temperature variation was shown to be $16.7{\pm}0.8^{\circ}C$. When is cooling, a temperature variation was shown to be $23.1{\pm}0.6^{\circ}C$. When is humidifing, a humidity variation was shown to be $39.3{\pm}1.6^{\circ}C$ %RH. An environmental control system and a control algorithm were proved that it was shown a good performance in a control accuracy. So a computer control system should be adapted to a control system of a greenhouse and a plant factory.

  • Personal computer based measurement and control system was constructed and tested in order to fiexibly apply it to laboratoy experiments in which environmental factors such as temperature, humidity, pH, DO and gases should be measured and controlled. Personal computer FC-80 was successively interfaced to the input-output system made up of PPI, A/D converter, D/A converter, programmable timer and USART boards. To test the system, pH control experiment was executed and the pH of the solution could be measured, expressed on the monitor and controlled at constant value.

  • It is important to select a reliable electronic control system in power plants because a trip of a power plant caused by malfunction of the control system can lead to a great deal of economic and social loss. In this paper. environmental test specifications for evaluating the reliability of the electronic control system were developed in order to select a reliable one. Also, the electronic control systems made by domestic manufacturers were tested based on these developed environmental test specifications.

  • Bioheavy oil, which is expanding its range of use as an alternative fuel to reduce environmental pollutant emissions, has a lot of difficulty in combustion due to its low emission of pollutants such as nitrogen oxide (NOx) and sulfur oxide (SOx), while its low dissipation and high oxygen content in fuel. many studies have been conducted on change in characteristics by mixing rate combustion characteristics and combustion reactions, but there have been no specific and effective studies on the composition of control system, optimization of control, development of logic for mixing and burning, minimizing environmental pollutantants discharge. In this study, we intend to consider systemmatic and empirical considerations on the composition, logic development, solve the problem of manual switching of bioler master due to excessive oxygen content and tuning of the control system for optimal combustion of bioheavy oil.

  • Utilization of renewable energy is becoming increaingly important from the viewpoints of environmental protection and conservation of fossil fuel. However, the generating power of renewable energy is always fluctuating due to the environmental status. This paper presents a scheme for supervisory control of wind generation system with the energy storage and STATCOM to reduce the power variation. In this paper, we especially concentrate on constant power output control of wind generation system. In order to achieve this purpose, the coordinated control strategy between different types of energy storage system and reactive power compensation device. The proposed control scheme has been validated by PSCAD/EMTDC simulation. As a result, the proposed scheme can handle the power output of wind generation system with a constant value.

Motion predictive control for DPS using predicted drifted ship position based on deep learning and replay buffer

  • Typically, a Dynamic Positioning System (DPS) uses a PID feed-back system, and it often adopts a wind feed-forward system because of its easier implementation than a feed-forward system based on current or wave. But, because a ship's drifting motion is caused by wind, current, and wave drift loads, all three environmental loads should be considered. In this study, a motion predictive control for the PID feedback system of the DPS is proposed, which considers the three environmental loads by utilizing predicted drifted ship positions in the future since it contains information about the three environmental loads from the moment to the future. The prediction accuracy for the future drifted ship position is ensured by adopting deep learning algorithms and a replay buffer. Finally, it is shown that the proposed motion predictive system results in better station-keeping performance than the wind feed-forward system.

Numerical investigation of an MR damper-based smart passive control system for mitigating vibration of stay cables

  • An extensive numerical investigation on the magnetorheological (MR) damper-based smart passive control system for mitigating vibration of stay cables under wind loads has been conducted. The smart passive system is incorporated with an electromagnetic induction (EMI) device for reducing complexity of the conventional MR damper based semi-active control system by eliminating an external power supply part and a feedback control part (i.e., sensors and controller). In this study, the control performance of the smart passive system has been evaluated by using a cable structure model extracted from a full-scale long stay cable with high tension. Numerical simulation results of the proposed smart damping system are compared with those of the passive and semi-active control systems employing MR dampers. It is demonstrated from the results that the control performance of the smart passive control system is better than those of the passive control cases and comparable to those of the semi-active control systems in the forced vibration analysis as well as the free vibration analysis, even though there is no external power source in the smart passive system.

  • The number of cable-stayed bridges has been increasing worldwide, causing issues in maintaining the structural safety and integrity of bridges. The stay cable, one of the most critical members in cable-stayed bridges, is vulnerable to wind-induced vibrations owing to its inherent low damping capacity. Thus, vibration mitigation of stay cables has been an important issue both in academia and practice. While a semi-active control scheme shows effective vibration reduction compared to a passive control scheme, real-world applications are quite limited because it requires complicated equipment, including for data acquisition, and power supply. This study aims to develop an Arduino-based integrated cable vibration control system implementing a semi-active control algorithm. The integrated control system is built on the low-cost, low-power Arduino platform, embedding a semi-active control algorithm. A MEMS accelerometer is installed in the platform to conduct a state feedback for the semi-active control. The Linear Quadratic Gaussian control is applied to estimate a cable state and obtain a control gain, and the clipped optimal algorithm is implemented to control the damping device. This study selects the magnetorheological damper as a semi-active damping device, controlled by the proposed control system. The developed integrated system is applied to a laboratory size cable with a series of experimental studies for identifying the effect of the system on cable vibration reduction. The semi-active control embedded in the integrated system is compared with free and passive mode cases and is shown to reduce the vibration of stay-cables effectively.
