A Study on Explosive Hazardous Areas in Hydrogen Handling Facility (수소 취급설비의 폭발위험장소에 관한 연구)

  • Safety of hydrogen handling facilities is needed as supply of hydrogen cars has been expanded recently. In this study, the adequacy of safety regulations of hydrogen handling facilities and the risk of damage with hydrogen leakage were studied. The range of explosion hazard location of the hydrogen filling plant was investigated using the computational fluid dynamics (CFD) method, Explosive hazardous area is influenced by leakage type, hole size and sectional area. When the conditions of KS standard are applied, range explosive hazardous area is expanded 7.05 m, maximum. It is about 7 times larger than exceptional standard of hydrogen station. Meanwhile, distance from leakage point to 25% LEL of hydrogen is investigated 1.6 m. Considering the shape of charging hose, regulation of hydrogen station is appropriate.

Characterization of Fiber Connectivity in Fire-resistant High Strength Concrete using Percolation Theory (Percolation 이론을 이용한 내화 고강도 콘크리트의 내부 섬유 연결성 파악)

  • To improve fire-resistance of a high strength concrete against explosive spalling under elevated temperature, fibers can be mixed with concrete to provide flow paths of evaporated water within concrete to the free surface. The fiber-mix concrete approach is effective against explosive spalling when the flow path generated from melting fibers at the elevated temperature is interconnected to transport high pressurized evaporated water from the inside concrete to the free surface. The percolation theory can identify the connectivity of the fibers and provide an estimate of the fire-resistance of concrete by investigating layout of fibers. In this study, the correlation between percolation theory and explosive spalling of fiber-mixed high strength concrete is analyzed and the connectivity of the fiber in concrete is stereologically investigated by using virtual specimens of fiber-mixed high strength concrete.

Area Classification of Hazardous Gas Facility According to KGS GC101 Code (KGS GC101을 통한 가스시설 폭발위험장소의 설정)

  • Technical practice code, KGS GC101 2018, for explosion hazard area selection and distance calculation of gas facility was enacted and implemented from July 12, 2018. This code includes whole contents of IEC60079-10-1 2015 (Explosive atmospheres Part 10-1: Classification of areas - Explosive gas atmospheres), and clarifies the interpretation of ambiguous standards or adds guidelines for standards. KGS GC101 is a method for classifying explosion hazard place types: (1) Determination of leak grade (2) Determination of leakage hole size (3) Determination of leakage flow (4) Determination of dilution class (5) Determination of ventilation effectiveness, finally (6) Determination of danger place (7) Explosion The range of dangerous places can be estimated. In order to easily calculate this process, the program (KGS-HAC v1.14, C-2018-020632) composed by Visual Basic for Application (Excel) language was produced by Korea Gas Safety Corporation. We will discuss how to use codes and programs to select and set up explosion hazard zones for field users.

  • Non-electric detonator has been used in underground excavations because of its strong resistance against electric impacts. However, electric detonator is often used to initiate the non-electric detonator instead of using an exclusive non-electric blasting machine due to economical reason. Spark Trigger is introduced as a solution of unexpected explosive hazard from using an electric detonator as an initiator of non-electric system. Since Spark Trigger System does not need expensive tube and no plastic waste is left, this system is proved to be more economical and eco-friendly initiate system than the standard non-electric initiating system.

  • This paper describes a wearable multi-modal user interface design and its implementation for a teleoperated field robot system. Recently some teleoperated field robots are employed for hazard environment applications (e.g. rescue, explosive ordnance disposal, security). To complete these missions in outdoor environment, the robot system must have appropriate functions, accuracy and reliability. However, the more functions it has, the more difficulties occur in operation of the functions. To cope up with this problem, an effective user interface should be developed. Furthermore, the user interface is needed to be wearable for portability and prompt action. This research starts at the question: how to teleoperate the complicated slave robot easily. The main challenge is to make a simple and intuitive user interface with a wearable shape and size. This research provides multi-modalities such as visual, auditory and haptic sense. It enables an operator to control every functions of a field robot more intuitively. As a result, an EOD (explosive ordnance disposal) demonstration is conducted to verify the validity of the proposed wearable multi-modal user interface.

  • When the EED is exposed to the high power radiation, it is possible to verify systems survivability through measuring the induced current of EED. The usual method of performing a system level test is to replace the EED's with modified units from which the explosive charge has been removed and replaced with the fiber optic sensor. The thermal transient test was performed to obtain the temperature vs current characteristic curve for optical sensor installed in EED. The currents measured when the system is exposed to a known EME are compared to the proposed specfication about the EED and a decision is made on whether system is safe or not.

  • In order to measure the temperature of bridge wire, the explosive material is removed from EED and a fiber optic temperature sensor is installed near the bridge wire. Using the heat transfer theory, the optimum position of the fiber optic sensor in the EED is determined and the temperature-distance equation is derived from test result. The measuring technique can be utilized to the real electromagnetic radiation hazard test.

  • Recently, With explosive national land developments construction fields ate increasing, and slope failures are disastrous when they occur in mountainous area adjoining highways. but public institutions and supervisors, to manage slope need GIS for managing it more quickly and correctly. For manage slope, it is nesessary to use new IT, especially wireless internet. The current domestic population using cell phones exceeded 30 million and the domestic wireless Internet environment has matured, but implementation of mobile technology for government services isnot matured enough. In this paper the author proposed a new system of mobile PPT monitoring for managing slope inspection for Ubiquitous Environment. This new system manages data in real time and reduces human power when applied to current working environments. This research was supported by a grant(NEMA-06-NH-05) from the Natural Hazard Mitigation Research Group, National Emergency Management Agency.

  • In this study we collected various substance codes, physical and chemical properties, and hazard level of the 545 HNS which was determined earlier, and constructed the Korean HNS database including International Maritime Dangerous Goods (IMDG) codes,, informations of explosive and corrosive characteristics of HNS after reviewing of US, Japan and European Database. And also problems of present HNS Database which focused mainly on land-based environment and an absence of information for chemical and physical properties of mixed substance HNS are reported. For the efficient implementation of comprehensive HNS management system, we constructed the basic model for the HNS database in marine environment and made suggestions for improvement for the future development of HNS Database to be prepared for the marine spill accidents.

Tele-Manipulation of ROBHAZ-DT2 for Hazard Environment Applications

  • In this paper, a tele-manipulation in explosive ordnance disposal(EOD) applications is discussed. The ROBHAZ-DT2 is developed as a teleoperated mobile manipulator for EOD. In general, it has been thought that the robot must have appropriate functions and accuracy enough to handle the complicated and dangerous mission. However, the research on the ROBHAZ-DT2 revealed that the teleoperation causes more restrictions and difficulties in EOD mission. Thus to solve the problem, a novel user interface for the ROBHAZ-DT2 is developed, in which the operator can interact with various human senses (i.e. visual, auditory and haptic sense). It enables an operator to control the ROBHAZ-DT2 simply and intuitively. A tele-manipulation control scheme for the ROBHAZ-DT2 is also proposed including compliance control via force feedback. It makes the robot adapt itself to circumstances, while the robot faithfully follows a command of the operator. This paper deals with a detailed description on the user interface and the tele-manipulation control for the ROBHAZ-DT2. An EOD demonstration is conducted to verify the validity of the proposed interface and the control scheme.
