  • FEM requires the stress-strain relationship equations for numerical analyses. However, most formulations for the stress-strain relationship published up to the present are not satisfactory enough to properly express all the levels from the small strain to the peak. Tatsuoka and Shibuya (1991) suggested a new single formulation applicable not only to a wide range of geo-materials from soft clay to soft rock, but also to a wide range of strain levels from $10^{-6}$ to $10^{-2}$. The plain strain compression test is carried out to seven samples of research standard sand specimens and two samples of glass beads, which have been used at world-renowned research institutes. In this study, strains of the maximum principal stress (${\sigma}_1$) and the minimum principal stress (${\sigma}_3$) were thoroughly measured from $10^{-6}$ to $10^{-2}$, and the result, applied to Tatsuoka and Shibuya's new formulation, coincided closely with the measured data of the stress-strain relationship from the small strain to the peak.

  • In this study we investigated ac transport current losses in the face to face stack for the anti-parallel current flow, and compared the electromagnetic properties with those of the single SC tape as well as those of the same stack for the parallel current path. The gap between the SC tapes in the stack varied in order to verify the electromagnetic influence of the neighbors when current flows in opposite direction, and the model was implemented in the finite element method program by the commercial software, COMSOL Multiphysics 4.2a. Conclusively speaking, the loss was remarkably decreased for the anti-parallel current case, which is attributed the magnetic flux compensation between the SC layers due to the opposite direction of the current flows. As the gap between SC tapes was increased, the loss mitigation became less effective. Besides, the current density distribution is very flat cross the sample width for the narrower gap case, which is believed to be benefit for the power electric system. These results are all in good agreement with those predicted theoretically for an infinite bifilar stack.

  • The purpose of this study is to find experimentally bond properties of deformed bars in high strength concwtc. Bond properties of deformed bars in high strength concrete are tested i n tensile stress state. Eighty beam-end specimens are used for this experiment. Concrete compressive strength is used as main experimental variable, in addition a few variables affecting bond properties are used : bond length, cover thickness and bar diameter. The principal results obtained from this study are as follows ; - Bond strength is not proportionate to bond length in high strength concrete. The rate of bond strength increase followed by bond length rapidly diminish according to concrete strength increase. The reason is analyzed in FEM analysis that bond stress is not uniformly distributed in high strength concrete and concentrate on loading area. - Bond strength is linearly proportionate to cover thickness without regard to concrete strength. Especially the rate of strength increase is gradually increased by concrete strength.

  • Due to a roots type medium vacuum pump is operated in condition of $1{\sim}10^{-3}$ torr vacuum, it could be applied for production and process of industrial parts, such as precise processing, vaporization, enrichment, separation, casting, metaling, welding, transportation. Therefore, the demand of this pump is increasing nowadays in our industrial markets of semiconductor, electric, electronic, automobile, material, environmental and transporting industries. However, the pumps are almost imported, because the domestic pumps are inferior in fields of vacuum range as under $10^{-1}$torr, relevant techniques(design, fabrication, casting, test, etc.) to the imported ones. In this study, essential parts of the development pump are designed with using of CFD and 3D decodes, FEM for analysing strength and deformation, generated heat, vibration and noise control, and are casted with using of mechanochemistry techniques for decreasing of weights, increasing of heat resistances and abrasion durability of materials for pump caing and impellers especially. Besides, in order to achieve ultimate vacuum around $10^{-3}$torr, this pump is composed of 6 stages, among which 1st stage is operated separately from remained stages. Additionally, a test rig for prototype pumps(300$m^3/h$ and 2,500$m^3/h$) is designed and procured as to apply for multi-staged rootz type vacuum pump, with modification of the test method recommended by KS B 6314 "Positive-displacement oil-sealed rotary vacuum pumps".

  • Since Wertheimer and Leeper reported possible adverse health effects of magnetic field in 1979, worldwide researches on this issue have been conducted. More recently, the U.S. Congress instructed the NIEHS (National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences), NIH (National Institute of Health) and DOE (Department of Energy) to direct and manage EMF RAPID (Electric and Magnetic Fields Research and Public Information Dissemination) program aimed at providing scientific evidence to clarify the potential for health risks from exposure to extremely low frequency electric and magnetic fields(ELF-EMF). Although they concluded that the scientific evidence suggesting adverse health risks of ELF-EMF is weak, the exposure to ELF-EMF cannot be recognized as entirely safe. Therefore, the purpose of this article is to describe magnetic field 3-D calculation and to evluate eddy current of human body compare to international guide line recognized one of the basic problems. In open boundary problem, Magnetic field using FEM is not advantageous in the point of the division of area and the proposition of the fictitious boundary. Therefore, we induced the analytic equation of magnetic field calculations so but the finite line segment based on Biot-Savarts law Also, Eddy currents induced due to ELF-EMF magnetic field are computed. To calculate induced currents, impedance method is used in this paper, An example model of human head with resolution of 1.27cm is used. In this paper, We evaluate the magnetic field and eddy current of human head around 765 kV transmission lines compare to international guide line.

  • This paper presents a compact bluetooth/WiFi dual-mode dual-band RF front-end module(FEM) is realized by low temperature co-fired ceramic(LTCC) technology. The proposed RF front-end module consists of a diplexer, baluns in the LTCC substrate, and an SPDT switch, an SP3T switch on the LTCC substrate. In order to reduce the module size and increase integration level, the proposed diplexer and balun are designed using LC lumped elements. The parasitic elements caused by coupling effect between metal pattern layers and ground plane layer are considered during the design. The fabricated dual-mode RF front-end module has 13 pattern layers including three inner ground layers and it occupies less than $3.0mm{\times}3.7mm{\times}0.66mm$.

  • This paper investigates the effectiveness of quick lime piles for soft ground improvement. The field tests based on the results of the laboratory test were performed, and the results of field tests were compared with those of numerical analyses(FEM). The results of the field test showed that the domestic quick lime was very effective in reducing the water contents of the surrounding ground quickly due to its characteristics such as digestion, absorption, and exothermic reactions. Accordingly, consolidation occurred without any additional load increment and the shear strength of surrounding ground was increased more than twice. Therefore the quick lime pile method could be considered as an excellent improvement technique reducing the improvement period for soft ground. For the practical applications of the quick lime pile method, issues such as hydration heat, particulation and equipment enhancement should be solved through continuous research and development.

  • In this study, the seepage behavior and the stability of the extension embankment were estimated for three cases the permeability coefficient of an extension part and the rising velocity due to the rainfall of flood period. In parallel flow condition, the unstability of the slope due to embankment erosion was examined by analyzing the variation of seepage line by the seepage modeling tests and FEM analysis, and the stability of the embankment slope accompanied by the sudden rise of the water level after the flood. The seepage behavior of extension embankment indicates that the larger permeability of the extension part the longer initial seepage distance, and the exit point from embankment slope is gradually increased, and then shows unstable seepage behavior that occurs a partial collapse as safety factor decreases with time. It is because of the increment of exit points due to variation of seepage line and rising velocities of water level. Also, the collapse aspect of embankment slope shows that the increment rising velocities of water level causes the increment collapse height and depth.

  • A mathematical model of viscoelasticity on the material property of human pharyngeal tissue utilizing Y.C. Fung's Quasi-linear viscoelastic theory is proposed based on cyclic load, stress relaxation, incremental load, and uniaxial tensile load tests. The material properties are characterized and compared with other biological materials' results. The mathematical model is proposed by combining two characteristic functions determined from the stress relaxation and uniaxial tensile load tests. The reduced stress relaxation function G(t) and elastic response function S(t) are obtained from stress relaxation test and uniaxial tensile load test results respectively. Then the model describing stress-time history of the tissue is implemented utilizing two functions. The proposed model is evaluated and validated by comparing the model's cyclic behaviour with experimental results. The model data could be utilized as an important information for constructing 3-dimensional biomechanical model of human pharynx using FEM(Finite Element Method).

  • In spite of the merits of laser welding being able to obtain the high welding quality such as smaller width of melting and heat affected zone, smaller welding deformation and fine grains of weldment compared to arc welding, laser welding is mainly used in joining of thin steel parts of electronics industry. Laser welding is getting widely used in joining thick plate and special kinds of steel due to its high power. While the arc welding is still applied for 2.25Cr-1Mo steel which is the essential material of atomic power generation equipment, the laser welding is not yet applied despite its high quality. So it has a trial to a special case demanding high welding quality such as atomic power plant. Accordingly, in this research, the mechanical properties of weldments by arc and laser welding were investigated using FEM to confirm the applicability of laser welding to 2.25Cr-1Mo steel. The Charphy test was carried out to understand the effect on the fracture toughness of weldments. The results of examination and test of the mechanical properties showed the validity of this research.
