  • Objectives : Although moxibustion is one of the most frequently used methods in oriental medicine, effect of moxibustion in myofiber regeneration and muscle fatigability is hardly studied. This study was researched to observe the effect of moxibustion in myofiber regeneration and muscle fatigability. Methods : We reviewed studies which contained moxibustion and published after 2000s in Pubmed. We also reviewed domestic studies in RISS, KISS and DBPIA, but only three studies were researched. Results : In myofiber regeneration, moxibuston has improved blood flow in muscle tissue and recover tissue injuries fast. Especially, moxibustion trigger an increse of HSP levels, which protect the cell against irreversible damage, apoptosis and death. Thus, that helps to stimulate myofiber regeneration. In many studies, as moxibustion stimulate PMRs and decrease fatigue substances, such as lactate acid and creatinine, so moxibustion is considered to be effective to recover and prevent muscle fatigability. Based on such effects, moxibustion is considered to have an effect on TPs, but have been hardly studied. Conclusions : Although Moxibution is considered to be effective in myofiber regeneration and muscle fatigability, futher study is needed.

  • Background and Objectives The early assessment of treatment is not done for benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) since the well-known phenomenon of fatigability after a repeated positional test can mimic successful treatment. The aim of this study is to evaluate the clinical implication of 'fatigability' after Epley maneuver and to identify the therapeutic efficacy of Epley maneuver in posterior canal BPPV (PC-BPPV). Subjects and Method This study was prospectively conducted by two dizziness clinics on 51 consecutive patients diagnosed with PC-BPPV. All patients included in the study received Epley maneuver treatment. The therapeutic results were reassessed immediately after a single trial of Epley maneuver. After 30 minutes, results were reassessed repeatedly to confirm the fatigability of diagnostic procedure immediately after treatment. If the treatment was not successful after 30 minutes, Epley maneuver was repeatedly performed until complete resolution. Results Immediately after the first maneuver, 45 of 51 (88.2%) patients had neither vertigo nor nystagmus during the positional test. All patients demonstrated complete resolution after receiving one to three Epley maneuvers on the day of diagnosis. 'Fatigability (false negative result)' was confirmed for only one case (1 of 6 patients, 16.7%), in which nystagmus was observed after 30 minutes but not identified immediately after the first Epley maneuver. Conclusion The therapeutic efficacy of Epley maneuver is very high in PC-BPPV. Considering the possibility of fatigability when reassessment is performed immediately after therapeutic maneuver, clinicians should avoid assessing the outcome immediately after treatment in patients with PC-BPPV.

  • In this paper, the researcher investigated whether strengthening the back muscles affects the quality of chest compressions during cardiopulmonary resuscitation by university students. A total of 50 students majoring in healthcare were included from September 2018 to November. The participants performed chest compressions during cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) for 2 min after back muscle strength was measured. Then, after adequate rest, the participants repeated the back muscle strength measurements and chest compressions after taping the erector spinae muscle. The paired t-test was performed to analyze changes in chest compression quality after taping. As results, taping enhanced back muscle strength and positively affected the depth of chest compressions and the compression to recoil ratio. Taping also increased confidence and lowered fatigability during chest compressions, so the participants preferred being taped while performing chest compressions. Based on these results, taping could help emergency room medical personnel specialized in CPR to enhance the quality of CPR and relieve back pain and fatigability by strengthening the back muscles.

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of concurrent and reciprocal isometric contraction and angle of ankle joint on fatigue of concentrically contracting contralateral dorsiflexor and plantar flexor. Seventeen able-bodied subjects participated in the study. Concurrent and reciprocal isometric contraction were performed under three different ankle joint angles (dorsiflexion, neutral position, plantar flexion). During concurrent or reciprocal isometric contraction. fatigue of concentrically contracting contralateral tibialis anterior, gastrocnemius, and soleus was investigated and compared. There was no interaction between different ankle joint angles and direction of isometric contraction (p<.05). No significant differences were found among three different ankle joint angles (p<.05). Contralateral muscle fatigability was lower in reciprocal isometric contraction than that in concurrent isometric contraction (p<.05). Therefore, the findings of this study suggest that reciprocal isometric contraction is more beneficial than concurrent isometric contraction inducing less fatigability during contralateral concentric contraction.

  • Safety accidents are of concern during construction projects, even given the recent innovations in digital technologies. These projects remain focused on overcoming specific and limited applications on construction sites. For this reason, the development of an inclusive safety management system has become crucial. This study aims to build a Big Data platform to inform decisions on how to proactively eliminate worker hazards on construction sites. The platform consists of about 100,000 real records and a real-time monitored database featuring various safety indices, such as workers' altitudes, heart rates, and fatigability during construction, which are determined through various wearable devices. The data types are customized and integrated by a research team in accordance with the characteristics of a specific project using hypertext transfer protocol (HTTP). The results can be helpful as efficient tools to ensure successful safety management in complex construction situations. This study is expected to provide three significant contributions to the field, including real-time fatigability analysis and tracking of workers on-site; providing early GPS-based warnings to workers who might be accessing dangerous spaces or places; and monitoring the workers' health indices, based on details from 100,000 cases.
