The aim of this study was to evaluate the resistance to degradation of four commercial composite resins in an alkaline solution. The brands studied were Charisma, Filtek P 60, Palpique Estelite, and Spectrum. Preweighed discs of each brand were exposed to 0.1N NaOH solution at $60^{\circ}C$. After 2 weeks they were removed, neutralized with HCl, washed with water and dried. Resistance to degradation was evaluated on the basis of following parameters: (a) mass loss(%) - determined from pre-and post-exposed specimen weights; (b) Si loss(ppm) - obtained from ICP-AE analysis of solution exposed to specimens; and (c) degradation depth(${\mu}m$) - measured SEM and CLSM from polished circular sections of exposed specimens. The results were as follows: 1. The sequence of mass loss was in descending order by Palpique Estelite, Filtek P 60, Charisma, and Spectrum. 2. The sequence of the degree of degradation layer depth was in descending order by Filtek P 60, Charisma, Palpique Estelita, and Spectrum. 3. The sequence of the Si loss was in descending order by Chrisma, Spectrum, Palpique Estelite, and Filtek P 60. 4. The correlation coefficient between mass loss and degradation layer depth was relatively high(r=0.704, p<0.05). 5. When observed with SEM, destruction of bonding was observed between resin matrix and filler. 6. When observed with CLSM, degradation layer depth of composite resin surface was observed.

Giomer is fluoride-releasing, resin-based dental materials that comprise PRG(pre-reacted glass ionomer) filler. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the shear bond strength of Giomer using self-etching primer systems to bovine dentin. Bovine incisors were mounted in self-curing orthodontic resin and the facial surfaces were wet ground on SIC paper to expose the dentin. Total 100 samples were made and divided randomly into 4 groups, Giomer group(I), Composite resin group(II) and Compomer group(III), Giomer and single bottle adhesive group(IV). The shear bond strengths of 25 samples per each group were measured using universal testing machine. And data were analyzed statistically with One-way ANOVA and Scheffe test. Giomer group(I) showed the significantly higher bond strength than Compomer group(III)(p<0.05). There was no significant difference between Giomer group(I) and Composite resin group(II)(p>0.05). And there is no significant difference between gourp(I) and group(IV). Based on the results of present study, the use of Giomer as an esthetic restorative material for primary teeth might be justified. It is considered that more study about the fluoride releasing ability is needed to evaluate the anticariogenic effect of giomer.
Thermoplastic road markings are one of the most widely used road markings in the world. However, the durability of domestic road markings is relatively shorter than that of the global average of, approximately, three years. To overcome it, the conventional thermoplastic road markings were prepared by adding polyolefin and oxidized PE wax to conventional petroleum resin. In addition, the melting viscosity was designed below 500 cP at $220^{\circ}C$ as well as the optimum viscosity for spray painting, and embedding ratio of glass beads were controlled about 50~60% by spraying in an interval of 1 second. Also the glass bead adhesive ratio was improved by reducing the amount of $CaCO_3$ below 40 wt%. The retroreflectivity was tested under four different conditions to evaluate the abrasion resistance of thermoplastic road markings. The retroreflectivity coefficient satisfied the international standard ($150mcd{\cdot}m^{-2}{\cdot}lux^{-1}$) in this study, and TPRM-7 was determined as an optimal ratio.
Lacquer sap extracted from lacquer trees exhibits good thermal stabilities and antimicrobial properties. To apply these superior properties to functional packaging, polyurushiol (YPUOH) powders were prepared and blended into LDPE (low density polyethylene) to prepare three different LDPE/YPUOH composite films via a twin screw extruder system. Their morphology, thermal and antimicrobial properties as well as barrier properties of the LDPE/YPUOH composite films were thoroughly investigated to find out applicablities of the films as functional packaging materials. Although the interfacial interaction between LDPE and YPUOH was relatively weak, LDPE/YPUOH composite films exhibited good dispersion of YPUOH in LDPE, resulting in the enhanced thermal stability with YPUOH loading. Due to the good antibacterial property of as-prepared YPUOH, LDPE/YUOH composite films also showed an excellent antibacterial activity (R) of 99.9% against E. coli. Furthermore, the moisture barrier property of LDPE/YPUOH composite films increased with increasing YPUOH contents. Incorporating the relatively low amount of YPUOH in LDPE resulted in the apparent enhancement in thermal stabilities, antibacterial and moisture barrier properties, which made them promising candidates as a functional filler for packaging materials.

Forward osmosis (FO) desalination system has been highlighted to improve the energy efficiency and drive down the carbon footprint of current reverse osmosis (RO) desalination technology. To improve the trade-off between water flux and salt rejection of thin film composite (TFC) desalination membrane, thin film nanocomposite membranes (TFN), in which nanomaterials as a filler are embeded within a polymeric matrix, are being explored to tailor the separation performance and add new functionality to membranes for water purification applications. The objective of this article is to develop a graphene nanocomposite membrane with high performance of water selective permeability (high water flux, high salt rejection, and low reverse solute diffusion) as a next-generation FO desalination membrane. For advances in fabrication of graphene oxide (GO) membranes, layer-by-layer (LBL) technique was used to control the desirable structure, alignment, and chemical functionality that can lead to ultrahigh-permeability membranes due to highly selective transport of water molecules. In this study, the GO nanocomposite membrane fabricated by LBL dip coating method showed high water flux ($J_w/{\Delta}{\pi}=2.51LMH/bar$), water selectivity ($J_w/J_s=8.3L/g$), and salt rejection (99.5%) as well as high stability in aqueous solution and under FO operation condition.
In order to evaluate the effect of fish oil on lipogenesis, activities of glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase ( G6PDH ) and malic enzyme (ME) were measured in liver of rats fed mackered oil(MO) or eel oil (EO) for 10 to 14 days, at the various levels of 0 to 10% (w/w ). In addition to two kinds of fish oil, soybean oil (SO), lard (L), and beef tallow (BT) were fed to the different groups of rats. When fish oil was below 10%(w/w ), soybean oil, lard, or beef tallow was mixed with fish oil to maintain constant 10% (w/w) fat level. Three days of feeding MO brought a marked decrease$({\sim}{50}%)$ both in G6PDH and ME activity, the former of which maintained during 13 days of feeding. L group had highest levels of both enzymes. G6PDH activity of MO was lower than SO, but ME activity was not different between MO and SO. G6PDH activity was decreased with increasing content of fish oil (MO, EO), starting at the 2%(w/w) level of fish oil, when L or BT was used as filler oil. But ME activity was significantly reduced when fish oil content was at least 5%(w/w). Difference between the effects shown by two kinds of fish oil and animal species were also found. The present study suggests that fish oil can suppress hepatic lipogenesis by reducing activities of lipogenic enzymes with the same or higher degree than vegetable oil can exert.

Silicon carbide is considered to be a potentially useful material for high-temperature electronic devices, as its band gap is larger than that of silicon and the p-type and/or n-type conduction can be controlled by impurity doping. Particularly, porous n-type SiC ceramics fabricated from ${\beta}-SiC$ powder have been found to show a high thermoelectric conversion efficiency in the temperature region of $800^{\circ}C$ to $1000^{\circ}C$. For the application of SiC thermoelectric semiconductors, their figure of merit is an essential parameter, and high temperature (above $800^{\circ}C$) electrodes constitute an essential element. Generally, ceramics are not wetted by most conventional braze metals,. but alloying them with reactive additives can change their interfacial chemistries and promote both wetting and bonding. If a liquid is to wet a solid surface, the energy of the liquid-solid interface must be less than that of the solid, in which case there will be a driving force for the liquid to spread over the solid surface and to enter the capillary gaps. Consequently, using Ag with a relatively low melting point, the junction of the porous SiC semiconductor-Ag and/or its alloy-SiC and/or alumina substrate was studied. Ag-20Ti-20Cu filler metal showed promise as the high temperature electrode for SiC semiconductors.
Power quality has always been a concern of power engineers. Certainly an argument can be successfully made that most parts of power engineering have the ultimate objective to improve power quality. AC motors were widely used in industrial and domestic applications. Generally, AC motors were of two types: Induction and Synchronous motors. In motor many parameters like different load cycling, switching, working in hot weather and unbalances creates harmonics which creates major reasons for temperature rise of the motors. Due to high peak value of voltage, harmonics can weaken insulation in cables, windings and capacitors and different electronic components. Higher value of harmonics increase the motor current and decrease the power factor which will reduce the life time of the motor and increase the overall rating of all electrical equipments. Harmonics reduction of all the motors in India will save more power. Coating of windings of the motor with nano fillers will reduce the amount of harmonics in the motor. Based on the previous project works, actions were taken to use the enamel filled with various nano fillers for the coating of the windings of the different AC motors. Ball mill method was used to convert the micro particles of Al2O3, SiO2, TiO2, ZrO2 and ZnO into nano particles. SEM, TEM and XRD were used to augment the particle size of the powder. The synthesized nano powders were mixed with the enamel by using ultrasonic vibrator. Then the enamel mixed with the nano fillers was coated to the windings of the several AC motors. Harmonics were measured in terms of various indices like THD, VHD, CHD and DIN by using Harmonic analyzer. There are many other measures and indices to describe power quality, but none is applicable in all cases and in many instances, these indices may hide more than they show. Sometimes power quality indices were used as a basis of comparison and standardization. The efficiency of the motors was increased by 5 – 10 %. The thermal withstanding capacity of the motor was increased by 5º to 15º C. The harmonics of the motors were reduced by 10 – 50%.
In order to develop the slow-release compound fertilizer fur upland crops, trial products were made with ammonium sulfate, diammonium phosphate, and potassium chloride with filler of calcium sulfate, and hinder of additional material of urea resin Nine trial slow-release compound fertilizers were manufactured by varying urea/formaldehyde mole ratios(U/F mole ratio : 0.5, 1.0, and 1.5 ) and the proportions of urea resin (3.3. 6.7. and 10%) and the proportions of urea resin (3.3. 6.7 and 10%). The aimed percentage of $N-P_2O_5-K_2O$ in the trial product was 12.5-10.0-14.0%, which was appropriate for Chinese cabbage. The N dissolution of the trial products in water was slower with lower U/F ratio and in creased to the proportion of urea resin. The dissolved nitrogen in water after 24hrs ranged from 69 to 83 percent of total nitrogen in the trial products.

Mineral composition and content of 22 Korean Dancheong pigment products were obtained by Rietveld quantitative analysis. Jubosa, Hwang, Seokrok, Seokcheong and Hobun consist of pure cinnabar, orpiment, malachite, azurite and calcite (or aragonite), respectively. Whereas Seokganju, Hwangto, Noerok, Lapis lazuli, Baekto and Cockie hobun mainly consist of hematite, goethite, celadonite, lazurite, kaolin mineral and portlandite, respectively. And they all consist of soil minerals (quartz, feldspar, sericite and vermiculite) and filler minerals in the industry field (calcite, gypsum and anhydrite) at a different content. Quantitative XRD proved more useful method to determined exact mineral composition and content than chemical or microscopical data. If this method utilize for specification of natural pigment product, it is considered to be applicable in restoration technology and conservation science field.
