  • Purpose: This study was aimed to describe Helicopter Emergency Medical Services (HEMS) and analyze the flight nurses' activities in HEMS. Methods: Data were collected retrospectively from the air transportation reports that contained data of 168 patients transported by aircraft to G University medical center in Incheon since June, 2012 to March, 2013. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, and Mann-Whitney U test. Results: Average distance of flights was 44.0 km, duration of field treatment took 13.6 minutes, and duration of a flight from scene to hospital was 14.5 minutes. Nursing activities were categorized into 12 direct nursing activities and 5 nursing management activities, and a total number of 7806 nursing activities were occurred in HEMS. The most frequently performed nursing activity was measurement and monitoring (27.9%) followed by medication (11.5%) and respiratory management (8.7%). The most frequent nursing management were information management (11.0%). Nursing activities performed were significantly different depending on the patient's level of consciousness, cause of illness, crew configuration, and type of transportation. Conclusion: This study described HEMS nursing activities performed by flight nurses. Difference in nursing activities according to patient characteristics, crew configuration and type of transportation requires flight nurses to be prepared through educational programs to improve nursing activities and nursing management during air transportation.

  • Pilots' fatigue is one of the most serious threat to flying safety. Fatigue is influenced by many factors like sleep deprivation, daily activities, aging, stress, etc. This study was designed to investigate military pilots' daily activities. 20 pilots' daily activity was monitored by activity monitor, Fitbit(R), and the survey about sleep time and flight time was conducted. They placed Fitbit(R) on their waist for 5 days. During flight, they removed Fitbit(R) that had been used for checking their steps and walking distances. It was found that the average sleep time is 6.7 hours for fighter pilots. It was a little shorter than average sleep time for adults, 8 hours. Average steps per day was 6,838 which is more than sedentary worker's but less than active worker's. Their daily activities were not as high as we had expected. But their sleep time was very short. Flight surgeons should recommend them to take a rest and get sleep during rest period.

  • The base of leisure air activities are consistently expanding and its demand is expected to increase attributed to GDP growth and people's interest in its activity. Utilizing Visual Flight Rule, light sport aircrafts and ultra-light aircrafts are not under the effect of air traffic control center, which resulted in passenger injury due to emergency landing for adverse weather conditions and technical issues after pulling into mountain area, ocean and even urban area. Such events encouraged safety consciousness toward leisure aircraft activities and developing a measure to prevent a recurrence of the accident. This research focuses on suggesting compositive system for preventive safety management system by providing user based Flight information service and operating effective system, necessary for leisure aircraft activities.

  • The flight activities of Holotrichia morosa Watershouse and H. diomphaia Bates adults were monitored by blacklight traps for six years from 1984 to 1989. The flight activity of H. morosa adults was most prominent from late June to early August with a peak flight in mid July, and that of H. diomphalia adults mainly occurred from early May to late June of odd years with the peak flight dates varying year by year. The flight activities of the two species during the fight period became vigorous after moderate to heavy rainfalls. The overwintered adults of H. diomphalia seemed to begin flying when the daily mean temperature rose above $15^{\circ}C$. The ratios of the females to the total adults collected by the blacklight traps were 53.3% for H. morosa and 0% for H. diomphalia, although the female sex ratio of the latter species was 57.4% in the field.

  • An airman licensing system is central to the establishment and management of a state's airman licensing which gives official privileges to a person to perform specific activities by evaluating applicant's knowledge and proficiency. In recent decades, the level of the domestic aviation industry continues to leap forward and state's airman licensing system has also been advanced. However, accidents caused by pilot human errors are still occurring. In particular, the pilot occupations require a lot of experience and knowledge and the student pilots receiving the initial flight training have formed their own flight habits based on knowledge, skill, training methods, procedures, etc learned from the flight instructor. This paper discusses possible ways on the improvement for the domestic flight instructor rating by analyzing domestic and international rules and procedures for a flight instructor rating.

  • This paper describes the current research trend and future development direction of autonomous flight of the aircraft. The autonomous flight means that aircraft control system recognize and cope with the emergency situation confronted during the flight by itself. Current research for autonomous flight technology is mainly performed for the application to unmanned air vehicle. Considering advent of future air traffic management system and increasing demand of the unmanned air vehicle application, however, autonomous flight technology required to be combined with future air traffic management system. In this paper, the current air traffic management system and anticipating change in future air traffic management system was investigated and research activities of autonomous flight technology was described as well as future prospect.

  • From the flight safety and the performance point of views, a new engine installation impacts an helicopter development or upgrade program significantly. More than a close relationship between an aircraft manufacturer and an engine manufacturer is necessary for the best integration work from the program initiation phase. In this paper, technical cooperation between aircraft and engine companies, and technical supports by the engine manufacturer for the T700/701K engine during the Surion development program are summarized. The applications of official technical program documents, US Mil-spec, France airworthiness regulations as the standard of the engine installation work, and engineering activities at each phase such as contract, design and manufacturing, flight clearance, ground and flight tests are described. This paper would be a cornerstone for the future domestic helicopter development program.

  • FIight Test procedures are studied from FAR 23, AC 23-8, and Order 8110.7. We have been studied the main procedures for the type certification of light airplane from the experiences of Chang Gong 91. This study is intended as a reference for small airplane manufacturers, engineers, flight test engineers, and engineering flight test pilots, including government personnel. This study covers flight test items of interest during type certification. These methods and procedures are promulgated, in the interest of standardization, for use during normal category airplane flight test certification activities.

  • Imago's flight activities of Protaetia brevitarsis were from mid June to early September, and those of Allomyrina dichotoma were from mid June to late August. These activities were mainly influenced by amount and duration of rain. They were more active when there was small amount and short period of rain in a year. Distribution depth of the 3$^{rd}$ larvae of P. brevitarsis were not affected to the temperature. But A. dichotoma were sensitively react to the temperature, almost larvae were near the surface when high temperature. The distribution of P. brevitarsis was not affected by humidity, but most of A. dichotoma were near the surface when high humidity. Larvae of P. brevitarsis usually ate their dead individuals. When we supplied as food the pork, chicken, fresh mackerel, bread, apple, and pear. They took all of these food but larvae of A. dichotoma took only bread. Two species were lived in similar environment but those feeding habit was very different.

  • The amount of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions has been increasing steadily over the last 4 years, averaging 6.8 percent a year, due to the growth of low cost carriers and the increased demand for air transportations. For the aviation GHG reduction, various fuel saving activities are implemented in many areas such as high-efficiency aircraft and bio-fuel development in the technical part and low carbon flight procedures, short cut route development in the operational approach. Among the various reduction technologies, we focused on low carbon flight procedures that are crucial to GHG reduciton and suggested a reduction effect according to target implementation rate using by fuel saving estimation data in each aircraft type.
