  • In this paper, we propose the algorithm using optical flow and machine learning-based segmentation for the 3D conversion of 2D video. For the segmentation allowing the successful 3D conversion, we design a new energy function, where color/texture features are included through machine learning method and the optical flow is also introduced in order to focus on the regions with the motion. The depth map are then calculated according to the optical flow of segmented regions, and left/right images for the 3D conversion are produced. Experiment on various video shows that the proposed method yields the reliable segmentation result and depth map for the 3D conversion of 2D video.

  • In recent years, large-scale development of coastal areas has caused the loss of many lives and extensive property damage in coastal areas, due to wave overtopping caused by high-wave invasion and strong typhoons. However, coastal inundation studies considering the characteristics of domestic coastal areas are insufficient. This study is a methodology study that aimed to reproduce inundation of surge and wave complex elements by applying the ADCSWAN (ADCIRC+SWAN) and FLOW-3D models. In this study, the boundary data (sea level, wave) of the FLOW-3D model was extracted using the ADCSWAN (ADCIRC+SWAN) model and applied as the input value of the FLOW-3D model and a reproduction was created of the Flooding due to surge and overtopping in Busan Marine City when the typhoon Chaba passed. In addition, the existing overtopping empirical equation and the overtopping calculated by the FLOW-3D model were compared, and for coastal inundation, a qualitative verification was performed using the Inundation Trace Map of Land and Geospatial Informatrix Corporation, and the effectiveness of this study was reviewed.

  • Recently, the frequency of unexpecting heavy rains has been increased due to abnormal climate and extreme rainfall. There was a limit to analyze 1D or 2D stream flow that was applied simple momentum equation and fixed energy conservation. Therefore, hydrodynamics flow analysis in rivers has been needed 3D numerical analysis for correct stream flow interpretation. In this study, CFD model on FLOW-3D was applied to stream flow analysis, which solves three dimenson RANS(Reynolds Averaged Navier-Stokes Equation) control equation to find out physical behavior and the effect of hydraulic structures. Numerical simulation accomplished those results was compared by using turbulence models such as ${\kappa}-{\varepsilon}$, RNG ${\kappa}-{\varepsilon}$ and LES. Those numerical analysis results have been illustrated by the turbulence energy effects, velocity of flow distributions, water level pressure distributions and eddy flows around the piers at Jangwall bridge in urbarn stream.

  • Flow has attracted more interests in consumer behaviors, with pleasure and fantasy getting more important in shopping. "Flow" means the experience with which consumers feel as pleased and satisfied as in playing pleasantly, and the optimal experience they feel when they are indulged in an activity. The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationships among challenges, skills, flow experience, and future behavioral intention in online shopping malls. In addition, a 3D shopping mall and a 2D shopping mall were selected as the stimuli in order to examine the differences in flow experience in accordance with web site types. A survey questionnaire was developed and 700 data(2D group: n=380, 3D group: n=320) were used for analysis. Data were analyzed through structural equation model to explore effects of challenges and skills on flow. The results of this study are summarized as follows. First, the perception of higher challenges and skills led to positive flow experience and higher time distortion. Second, the higher the level of time distortion was, the higher the flow experience was. This means that a shopping mall will increase flow experience, if it is interesting enough to be unaware of time passing. Third, flow experience had a positive influence on future behavioral intention. Finally, in all variables except skills, the impact of 3D shopping mall is greater than that of 2D shopping mall, which means that web site types affect flow experience.

  • VaRI(Vacuum assisted Resin Infusion) process, which is cost effective and suitable for manufacturing large-sized composites, is an OoA(Out-of Autoclave) process. For rapid resin infusion in the VaRI process, a DM(distribution media) is placed on top of the fabric. The resin is rapidly supplied in plane direction of the fiber along the DM, and then the supplied resin is impregnated in the out-of-plane direction of fiber. It is difficult to predict the flow of resin because the flow of in-plane direction and the out-of-plane direction occur together, and a 3D numerical analysis program is used to simulate the resin infusion process. However, in order to analyze in 3D, many elements are required in the out-of-plane direction of fabric. And the product size is larger, the longer the analysis time needs. Therefore, in this study, a method was suggested to reduce the time required for flow analysis by simplifying the 3D flow analysis to 2D flow analysis. The usefulness was verified by comparing the 3D flow analysis with the simplified 2D flow analysis at the same conditions. The filling time error was about 7% and the reduction of flow analysis time was about 95%. In addition, by utilizing the constant difference in the flow front between the top, middle, and bottom of the fabric of the 3D analysis, the flow front of the top, middle, and bottom of the fabric can be also predicted in the 2D flow analysis.

  • The present study is aimed to achieve dynamic visualization from the in-house 3-D stereoscopic PIV to represent quantitative flow information such as time-resolved 3-D velocity distribution, vorticity, turbulent intensity or Reynolds stresses and so on. One of the application of the present study is Leading edge extension(LEX) flow appearing on modern delta wing aircraft. The other is mixing flow in stirring tank used in industry field. LEX in a highly swept shape applied to a delta wing features the modern air-fighters. The LEX vortices generated upon the upper surface of the wing at high angle of attack enhance the lift force of the delta wing by way of increased negative suction pressure over the surfaces. The present method resolves also the complicated flow patterns of two type impellers rotating in stirring vessel. Flow quantities such as three velocity vector components, vorticity and other flow information can be easily visualized via the 3D time-resolved post-processing visualization. And it makes the easy understanding of the unsteady flow characteristics of the typical industrial mixers.

  • Initial mixing characteristics in near field regions were analyzed by FLOW-3D, for analyzing mixing behavior of submerged discharge from freshwater lake in sea water. FLOW-3D model was applied to the region near Geum-ho dike for its verification. Simulation results from FLOW-3D were compared to the observed data for the verification periods. FLOW-3D showed resonable prediction results compared to the observed data, except underestimation in area near outfall. Particularly, FLOW-3D showed a good prediction for movement of buoyancy jets. In addition, FLOW-3D model was applied to the region near Saemangeum dike, which is to be constructed in near future. It was expected that the results of model application to Saemangeum area could provide substantial information in planning submerged discharge facilities. Based on the model applications to Saemangeum area, it was recommended that outfall should be located to the distance which gave an enough depth of outfall from water surface.

  • A CFD-based design method for transonic axial compressor blades was developed based on three-dimensional Navier-Stokes flow physics. The method employs a sectional three-dimensional (S3D) analysis concept where the three-dimensional flow analysis is performed on the grid plane of a span station with spanwise flux components held fixed. The S3D analysis produced flow solutions nearly identical to those of three-dimensional analysis, regardless of the initialization of the flow field. The sectional design based on the S3D analysis can include three-dimensional effects of compressor flows and thus overcome the deficiencies associated with the use of quasi-three-dimensional flow physics in conventional sectional design. The S3D design was first used in the inverse triode to find the geometry that produces a specified target pressure distribution. The method was also applied to optimize the adiabatic efficiency of the blade sections of Rotor 37. A new blade was constructed with the optimized sectional geometries at several span stations and its aerodynamic performance was evaluated with three-dimensional analyses.
